Emma Campbell stopped in her tracks, her gaze fixed on the two people at the door. Rick Slicker sensed trouble and his face darkened as he said, "Are we still going to do this?"
Emma Campbell twisted the hem of her clothes, lowered her head, and dared not look at Jas Brown and Gina Lopez. Tears flowed uncontrollably again.
Seeing Emma Campbell so aggrieved, Jas Brown felt heartache. He extended an arm and pulled Emma into his embrace, softly saying, "Silly girl, why didn’t you tell if there was sothing wrong?"
"I... I... I really didn’t hit anyone... wah..." Emma had been holding back, but as soon as Jas hugged her, she couldn’t hold it any longer and burst into tears.
Jas Brown gently patted Emma’s shoulder and said, "I know, Big Brother Brown knows too. Don’t worry, no one can wrong you, not even the King Father."
Hearing Jas Brown say this, Rick Slicker furrowed his brows, snorted, and said, "Quite the guts you have. This girl hit my dad. We’ve already agreed to settle this privately. Do you all have any objections?"
Gina Lopez had already taken the agreent from Emma Campbell’s hands. After reading it, she was instantly filled with anger. Although Emma was forced to agree, in her heart, Emma was family. At this mont, seeing Emma suffer such injustice—helping soone, only to be falsely accused of hitting them, and then being asked to pay Ten Thousand Dollars—even if it were a stranger, Gina wouldn’t stand by and watch. With a cold expression, she looked at Ricky Slick, and with a swift motion, she tore the agreent in two, saying, "We won’t pay even One Cent."
Having been a CEO for several years now, along with her personal charisma, Gina naturally exuded an air of authority. Fueled by anger, she was now filled with a commanding aura. Even Rick Slick was dumbfounded, not knowing what to say.
It wasn’t just Rick Slick who was shaken; the rest of the people in the room were as well. With just one word, Gina made others feel her extraordinary presence and sense that she was not soone to be trifled with.
"Who are you to tear up the agreent we reached?" Rick Slick’s elder sister recovered first, though she spoke with an underlying sense of uncertainty.
Gina Lopez snorted and said, "I’m Emma’s sister. I can speak for her entirely. You want to bully my sister? Not gonna happen!"
Sarah Johnson stared at Gina Lopez in astonishnt. Not only was Gina beautiful, but she was also dignified and elegant, completely incomparable to students like them. And it seed like Gina was obviously wealthy. Since when did Emma have such a sister?
Rick Slicker ca to his senses as well, knowing that Emma’s previous promise was now entirely void. This woman was clearly not soone to ss with, but he wasn’t afraid. After all, his dad was hit by Emma. As long as he insisted Emma did it, they would have no choice but to pay, albeit maybe not as much. His lips curled with disdain as he said slyly, "Fine, since you want to speak for her, then my dad was hit by her. What do you propose we do now?"
Gina Lopez swept her cold gaze over a few people and said, "You say my sister hit soone, then show us your evidence."
Rick Slick proudly said, "My dad is the evidence. She hit him; he saw it with his own eyes. There can’t be any mistake."
Gina Lopez looked toward the old man lying on the hospital bed, calmly asking, "Is that so?"
The old man t Gina’s gaze and felt as if she saw right through him. Quickly, he averted his eyes and couldn’t muster a word.
"Dad, tell them, wasn’t it that girl who hit you?" Rick Slick nudged his father lying on the bed.
The old man mumbled, "Yes, yes, it was that girl who hit ."
Gina Lopez let out a cold laugh and said, "Alright. Since you all say it was my sister who hit him, so be it. But we won’t pay. Do whatever you want."
Gina Lopez’s stance was exceedingly firm. She understood that these scamrs rely wanted money. Now she refused to pay, curious to see what else they could do. In YODC City, Gina thought, even if it got tough, she doubted anyone could touch her. Tis were different now, with Lucy Campbell as a significant support. Even when the Mayor and city officials were with her, they were all rather courteous. What else was there to fear?
If Charlotte were here, she would surely shout, "Sister Gina, you’re amazing!" At this mont, Gina was so impressive even Jas Brown had to silently comnd her in his heart.
Rick Slick’s brother-in-law then spoke in a low voice, "Madam, talking like this is unreasonable. When you hit soone, you must pay. There’s no other way."
Gina Lopez let out a cold smile and said, "Do you wish to discuss reason with ?"
Rick Slick’s brother-in-law cleared his throat and said, "We’re just trying to reason with you. I am the director of the Q County Industrial and Comrcial Bureau’s office. May I ask where you work?" He wanted to first find out Emma Campbell’s identity to avoid offending soone he couldn’t afford to, as his brother-in-law was a troublemaker who wasn’t afraid to offend people, but he himself had to work and wanted a promotion.
Emma Campbell wasn’t buying it at all and said, "I don’t care if you’re a director or not, even if your bureau chief cos and wants to pay, there’s no way you’re getting anything."
Rick Slick’s brother-in-law was taken aback; this woman’s tone was surprisingly bold, dismissing even the bureau chief. Could it be that she’s so kind of leader in the city? But on second thought, besides the young and beautiful Deputy County Chief lody Yoody of Q County, there was no other young and beautiful official. lody Yoody’s rise to deputy county chief at such a young age had already spread through YODC City’s official circles. If a beauty like Emma Campbell was an official, it would definitely be known, so he figured there was no reason for him not to know.
If she wasn’t an official, then she must be a businesswoman. Since he was in the Industrial and Comrcial Bureau, even if these business people were rich, they still had to look at their faces. He imdiately straightened his back and said theatrically, "I’m quite familiar with the leaders of the various sub-bureaus in the city, so don’t speak too harshly, it’ll be inconvenient if we et again in the future."
Emma Campbell was even more annoyed upon hearing this. This guy actually used his official position to pressure her, but she, Emma Campbell, does business with integrity and isn’t afraid of small-minded people like him. Her gaze sharpened as she looked at Rick Slick’s brother-in-law and said, "Very well, I’ll rember you. I’ll have a good chat with your County Magistrate Johnson about how your county’s industrial and comrcial bureau has such an arrogant office director."
Rick Slick’s brother-in-law felt a twinge of anxiety. Emma Campbell’s tone clearly indicated she was familiar with County Magistrate lody Yoody. Although the Industrial and Comrcial Bureau is vertically managed and personnel relations do not fall under district managent, it’s still in Q County. If lody Yoody, who was in the pri of her career, said sothing bad about him to their bureau chief, the chief wouldn’t take it lightly, making his future promotions more complicated.
This made him lose his confidence, and he chuckled awkwardly, saying, "Let’s talk this out nicely, let’s talk nicely."
Rick Slick’s mouth twitched slightly. He wasn’t afraid of that and angrily said, "Are you trying to play tough with ? Don’t you know who I, Rick Slick, am? You want to play tough with , you’ll have to wait. Let tell you, if you don’t pay up, I’ll cause trouble at this girl’s school every day, and we’ll see how well she can study."
Emma Campbell frowned slightly. She wasn’t afraid of these people bringing others, no matter which departnt they were from, she could handle it. But if soone like Rick Slick started to play rogue, she found herself a bit at a loss.
Jas Brown gently patted Emma Campbell on the back and then let go of her. Emma stood upright, opened her mouth, and John Brown had already said, "Alright, leave this matter to us. You don’t need to worry."
Then he stood beside Emma Campbell and looked at Rick Slick.
Rick Slick, being stared at by Jas Brown, felt as if he were being watched by a ferocious man-eating beast, his heart tightened, and he instinctively stepped back, shouting with fake courage, "What, you want to fight? I’ll tell you, Rick Slick has never been afraid of this. Believe it or not, with one call, I can have dozens of brothers co over?"
Jas Brown ignored Rick Slick and walked directly toward the old man’s bedside. Rick Slick was forced to step back step by step and watched as Jas approached the bed.
Jas Brown sat directly on the bedside, looked at the old man, and slowly said, "Are you sure she hit you?"
The old man was also sowhat fearful at this point but still stamred, "Yes... she hit ."
John Brown nodded and said, "Then tell where she hit you."
"She... she hit my waist."
John Brown asked again, "Then where are you hurt?"
"When she hit , I fell to the ground, twisted my leg, hurt my arm, hit my head, and now... my whole body hurts."
John Brown looked at the old man, grinned slightly, and said, "Old man, do you know what they call people like you?"
"What?" The old man didn’t dare et John Brown’s eyes.
"Old... wreck!" John Brown spat out the words through his teeth.
"How dare you insult !" The old man’s two daughters and Rick Slick shouted loudly.
John Brown suddenly stood up, gritting his teeth and said, "It’s despicable old n like this, clearly helped by others, yet you turn around and falsely accuse them of hitting you. It’s people like you who corrupt social virtues and dishearten those who want to do good deeds. Calling you an old wreck is still a form of respect. You are just a pile of crap, a piece of garbage. If you leave the hospital now, I will truly hit you once, so Mr. Grim Reaper can take you away, saving others from your harm."
