448: Chapter 455: Sister-in-law, It’s All Our Fault from M Region 448: Chapter 455: Sister-in-law, It’s All Our Fault from M Region John Brown and his group were taken into the police car.
Given their abilities, these officers clearly couldn’t do much to them, but fighting the police outright wasn’t an option either—that would make them far too conspicuous.
John Brown and his group were brought to the precinct.
Quite a few people had been caught as well.
For now, John Brown and his friends hadn’t given a statent and were locked up in the sa room as Martin Miller and his group.
“Hey, boss, this is your turf.
You handle it,” Martin said with a cheeky grin, puffing on a cigarette.
John Brown replied nonchalantly, “Just a fine, right?”
Martin smirked mischievously.
“For a few of us, sure, a fine will do.
But you’re a YODC City local.
Won’t they insist on having your wife co pick you up?”
John’s face imdiately darkened.
As Martin pointed out, this was a standard move by the police when arresting soone for solicitation.
If not the wife, then calling Gina Lopez would be unavoidable—and that would be utterly humiliating.
“Get us out of here, quick.
Honestly, you invited us out, and yet we still managed to get nabbed by the cops.
How embarrassing can you get?” Martin continued teasing John.
John rolled his eyes, pulled out his phone, and called Sunny Nguyen.
Timing-wise, she seed the most suitable person to bail them out.
But Sunny wasn’t picking up.
After so thought, John realized there were calls he absolutely couldn’t make—to Gina Lopez or Emily Lopez, to YODC City’s Emily Jenkins, and certainly not to Lucy Campbell—not a chance.
That would be unthinkably embarrassing.
Calling Emma Campbell wasn’t an option either.
While Emma wouldn’t bla him, this incident would undoubtedly tank her perception of him.
That couldn’t happen.
Then there was Helen Wilson—if she found out he was caught in a solicitation scenario, she’d surely mock him for the rest of his life.
A total no-go.
lody Yoody?
Don’t even bring her up.
Hearing about this would surely make her blow a fuse.
Emily Berns…
definitely out of the question.
If she got involved, the aftermath would be endless and exhausting.
Finally, there seed to be only one viable candidate: Sarah Utah.
Sarah was genuinely kindhearted, and John had always tried to avoid hurting her.
She had unwavering feelings for him, even after his marriage.
You could see it in her eyes whenever she looked at him.
Perhaps having her help this ti might alter her impression of him.
Maybe after this ordeal, she’d even start to dislike him, freeing her of those lingering feelings.
This reasoning made Sarah the ideal choice.
Without hesitation, John dialed her number.
“Big Brother Brown?
Why are you calling ?” Sarah’s voice rang with surprise and excitent as soon as the call connected.
“Uh, Sarah, I’ve been detained by the police.
I need you to co bail out—and bring extra money.
I’ve got four friends who need bailing too.”
“What?!” Sarah’s instant panic echoed through the phone.
“We… got caught at a sauna.”
Even without much elaboration from John, Sarah grasped the implication.
She cried out in shock again before stamring, “Big Brother Brown, how could you do sothing like this?”
Impatient, John retorted, “I don’t have ti to explain.
Just hurry and bail us out.
Don’t forget to bring enough money!”
Sarah agreed, asked for the location, and hung up.
“Boss, who’s this Sarah Utah?” Martin nudged John curiously.
“A colleague,” John replied.
“No way!
You’re so brusque on the phone—you’re not fooling anyone.
She’s totally your girl,” Martin teased.
“She’s not.
But you’d all better stop getting any ideas about her.”
“We wouldn’t dare!
She’s clearly the boss’s woman,” Martin said with mock seriousness.
In under twenty minutes, Sarah arrived, paid the fines—Three Thousand Dollars per person—and bailed out all five of them.
The mont Martin and the others got a glimpse of Sarah, they exchanged covert, impressed glances.
They’d seen their fair share of beauties, but Sarah’s fresh, innocent vibe made her particularly captivating.
Sarah had never t Martin and his group.
Slightly puzzled, she wondered if they were John’s clients and assud he had accompanied them to entertain them.
Pulling John aside, Sarah quietly said, “Big Brother Brown, how could you be so careless?”
John had assud Sarah would be heartbroken over this.
To his surprise, she spoke in a slightly scolding yet concerned tone, leaving him montarily stunned.
“Sarah, I got caught soliciting, you know!”
Sarah blushed and, with a mixture of exasperation and bashfulness, replied, “I know it wasn’t your fault.
I just asked the police, and they said you were only talking to that lady—you didn’t… do anything.”
“Huh?
The police haven’t even taken my statent.
How are they so sure about what that lady said?” John felt a bit baffled.
“Hehe, you don’t know this, do you?
I have a relative here who handles questioning.
That woman adamantly insisted you hadn’t touched her.
Normally, in these situations, the ladies don’t deny anything since it’s just a matter of paying the fine from the sauna house.
So if she said that, it must be true,” Sarah explained.
John’s face darkened as he scratched his nose, muttering, “I didn’t even get the chance… I was waiting to set the mood first.”
“Ugh, stop joking!
Don’t be ridiculous.
With a wife like Mr.
Lopez, you’d seriously consider soone like that?
I refuse to believe you’d go ssing around in a place like this,” Sarah chided, half-annoyed but seemingly trusting.
John sighed.
His attempt to leverage this incident to change Sarah’s view of him had completely backfired.
That relative of hers complicated things.
With a wry smile, he said, “Alright, don’t tell anyone you saw here.
I’ll withdraw so cash to repay you now.”
“No rush.
I’m not short of money at the mont,” Sarah responded.
“Still, a debt’s a debt.
Let’s go.” John escorted Sarah over to the group.
“You guys head back to the hotel.
I’ll take her ho first.”
Ignoring John, Martin turned to Sarah with a dramatic sigh.
With a pained expression, he solemnly said, “Sister-in-law, we really owe you an apology.
It’s been ages since we’ve seen the boss.
After catching up and having a few too many drinks, we recklessly dragged him along to indulge us.
The boss refused the entire way.
But we were completely out of line, and he finally gave in.
What happened tonight was entirely our fault, not the boss’s.
His devotion to you is absolutely genuine!
If you’re angry, please direct it at us.
Don’t bla the boss!”
Mark Smith quickly chid in, “Sister-in-law, when we dragged the boss, he kept insisting he couldn’t betray you.
Sigh… we were the idiots who pushed him into error.
If you need to vent, please aim it at us.”
Michael Robinson thumped his chest, adding mournfully, “Sister-in-law, the boss being lucky enough to have a wife like you must be a blessing from eight generations of good karma!
We were complete jerks for dragging him into this ss.
We owe you such an apology!”
Charles Robinson wiped at his suddenly tear-filled eyes, choking on his words.
“Sister-in-law, please don’t divorce the boss!
I’ll even kneel for you if it’ll help!” And with that, he bent slightly as if genuinely prepared to kneel.
Sarah stood there, speechless, staring wide-eyed at the group.
Wait… they all called her “sister-in-law”?
Did John tell them she was his wife?
Was this a misunderstanding, or… sothing he said?
When Charles looked like he might really kneel, she panicked, rushing to stop him.
“No, no!
I… I’m not upset!”
Clutching Sarah’s arm, Charles said excitedly, “You’re really not upset?
You’re not lying to us, are you?
If you hold this against the boss later, we couldn’t live with ourselves.”
“No!
No, I’m really not upset!” Sarah replied hastily, genuinely startled by Charles’s intensity.
“Get lost!” John barked, kicking Charles aside and grabbing Sarah’s arm.
“Let’s go.
Don’t mind them.”
“Sister-in-law, take care!
Once you’ve set the boss straight, let’s all get together and properly make ands!” the four called out in unison as they departed.
Sitting in the cab, Sarah took a few monts to recover.
She wanted to ask John for clarification, but with the driver present, she held her tongue.
As soon as they exited the cab, however, she couldn’t hold back any longer.
Blushing, yet with a faint hint of happiness, she asked, “Big Brother Brown, who are those guys?
Why do they call you ‘boss’?
And… why… why do they call …”
John cleared his throat awkwardly and replied, “They’re my old comrades-in-arms.
They ca to visit, so I took them out for a bit of fun.”
Sarah wasn’t focused on that.
With flushed cheeks, she glanced at John expectantly and stumbled over her words.
“Oh, and… and why did they call that?”
John saw her expectant expression and realized the misunderstanding was getting worse.
He could only explain bluntly, “To get us bailed, I told the police my wife would co.
Gina and I… have so issues right now, so I needed you to stand in temporarily.”
“Ah, so that’s why,” Sarah murmured.
Her heart felt sweet as honey.
John had chosen her to impersonate his wife—what a wonderful feeling!
But hearing about John’s marital issues suddenly sobered her.
“What happened between you two?” she asked, surprised.
“Heh, it’s complicated.
Let’s just say things are strained.
I won’t be going to work for the ti being, and my phone will be off.
Let’s talk later when things calm down,” John waved dismissively.
“What?
It’s that serious?
Is it because of Emily Berns?” Sarah anxiously grabbed his hand.
“Yeah.
Now I’ve suddenly got a son.
Isn’t that serious enough?”
Sarah bit her lip, but then softly shook her head.
“If it were , I’d forgive you…”
John smiled faintly.
“But Gina isn’t you.
Anyway, I have to go.” He flagged a cab and opened the door.
“Big Brother Brown, no matter what happens, I’ll… wait for you!”
Hearing that, John paused mid-step.
He simply waved his hand and got in the car.
