389: Chapter 396: On Duty 389: Chapter 396: On Duty After dinner, Lucy Campbell stood by the living room’s floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the scenery of the neighborhood outside, and said, “This neighborhood is better than the one I live in now.”

Gina Lopez stood next to Lucy and said, “It is indeed better.

This is a brand-new neighborhood, whereas the one you’re living in has been around for a few years already.”

“Then maybe I should move here tomorrow.

That way, I can go to work with you guys every day and won’t need those bodyguards anymore.

Otherwise, having bodyguards follow everywhere for work really makes colleagues suspect sothing’s up.”

Gina quickly said, “Sure, that sounds great!

You can co hang out at our house, chat with us, and you won’t feel lonely.”

Lucy chuckled and said, “I suppose I could freeload food and drinks at your place.”

Gina laughed and replied, “Of course, no problem.

We’ll just make Jas cook more als.”

Emily Jenkins, the little foodie, imdiately perked up upon hearing “freeload food” and jumped over, asking, “Where can I crash for free als?”

Lucy laughed and said, “I’m planning to move here and freeload at Gina’s place.”

“Oh no, that’d leave all alone in my current apartnt!

In that case, I’ll move here too.

Sister Gina, are there any rentals available?”

Lucy narrowed her eyes and said, “Since Emily wants to move too, leave this to .”

Emily clapped her hands and cheered, “Oh yay!

That ans I can crash Jas’ place for food again.”

Gina laughed and said, “Of course, that’s no problem.”

Emily saw Gina agreeing and imdiately moved to sit beside Jas Brown, saying, “Big Brother Brown, Sister Lucy said she’s moving to this neighborhood with , and Sister Gina agreed.

So, I can enjoy your cooking again from now on.”

Jas had already heard Lucy ntion this earlier and laughed, “You little foodie.

No matter where you go, you’re impossible to shake off.”

“Hehe, I almost got left behind, but I caught up again.”

Emily’s mind was indeed simple; she didn’t even care how Lucy would find a place.

She simply entrusted the matter to Lucy.

In SSUP Country, if anyone could so calmly and naturally have Lucy handle things for them, besides Emily, there probably wouldn’t be anyone else.

Sotis being simple-minded really seems like a blessing.

It was getting late, so Jas drove Lucy and Emily back ho, then stopped by his own place to take a look.

Emma Campbell wasn’t there, but the house was neat and spotless; she’d probably been there today.

For Emma Campbell, Jas would keep this house, even if it ant hiding treasures away like a golden cage.

The next day, Jas found himself with an extra task: picking up Lucy.

This arrangent was truly inconvenient, and of course, it’d be better if everyone just lived in the sa neighborhood.

Lucy was dressed in professional attire today: a slim-fit blouse, gray straight-leg pants, and silver high-heeled sandals, with her toenails painted in a pale pink shade, almost matching her skin tone but slightly brighter.

The outfit was simple but didn’t diminish Lucy’s beauty one bit.

If anything, it made her even more stunning.

No matter how she dressed, Lucy’s radiance was undeniable—even as a beggar, she’d still outshine everyone.

When she arrived at the office, she caused an uproar among the security guards at the entrance and the employees inside.

Everyone was both thrilled and puzzled—just yesterday, Jas claid Lucy hadn’t been hired, yet today there she was, dressed as if she were already starting work.

Jas directly brought Lucy to his office and called Sarah Utah, asking her to arrange for a desk, chair, and office supplies.

Sarah soon arrived with her team and was inevitably amazed by Lucy’s beauty.

Though she’d never felt inferior around Gina, standing in front of Lucy gave her an unexpected sense of inadequacy.

“This is Manager Michael from our company.

Manager Michael, this is my new secretary Lucy Campbell,” Jas introduced the two.

Lucy imdiately extended her hand graciously and said, “Hello, Manager Michael.

I’ll be counting on your guidance.”

Sarah quickly shook her hand and replied, “No problem!

If you need help, feel free to ask anyti.”

Jas had already instructed the two staff mbers from the logistics departnt to place Lucy’s desk and chair near the office door—a typical spot for a secretary.

Since Lucy had decided to be one, her desk couldn’t be an exception.

Technically, secretaries don’t need to work in the sa office as their manager.

But considering Lucy’s unique status, along with the fact that soone had previously targeted her, Jas decided to keep her in his office, ensuring her safety.

Once Sarah left, Lucy tidied up her desk, and Jas ca over to help.

Lucy imdiately said, “You’re the manager, and I’m the secretary.

How can I let you help ?

You should focus on your work.

If soone sees you helping, it’ll look bad.”

Jas reluctantly stepped away and returned to sit at his office desk.

But watching Lucy busy herself while he sat idle made him feel oddly uncomfortable.

Sure enough, just as Lucy predicted, Jas had barely settled when David Clark knocked and popped in.

Though he tried to look serious, one quick glance at Lucy had his eyes glued to her.

*Cough!* Jas cleared his throat heavily, snapping David back to reality.

“Manager Johnson, here’s the personnel request from the market research departnt.

Please take a look.” David handed the folder to Jas while discreetly gesturing toward Lucy’s desk, silently questioning what was going on.

Jas ignored him, waved him away, and said, “You can leave now.”

David lingered but eventually shuffled out reluctantly.

By this ti, Lucy had already finished organizing her desk with nimble efficiency.

She ca over to pour tea for Jas and said, “Your tea is subpar.

I’ll bring you so better ones next ti.”

Jas felt just as awkward with Lucy serving him tea but eagerly agreed upon hearing her offer.

Tea from Lucy was bound to be top-notch—she might even provide so premium Crimson Robe.

Having Lucy around might end up being quite enjoyable.

Jas stood and said, “Co on, I’ll take you to et the HR team.

Otherwise, they’ll keep barging in.”

Lucy smiled and agreed, following Jas out.

Jas felt a surge of pride at that mont.

Having soone like Lucy as his assistant?

It was a rare privilege in all of SSUP Country.

Before they reached the HR departnt, David’s voice could already be heard inside the office.

“Wow, that gorgeous woman is really in Manager Johnson’s office!

And she even has her own desk there.

Looks like she’s here to work—and probably as the manager’s secretary!”

“This is amazing.

Now we can admire her beauty every day.”

“Manager Johnson’s move is genius.

Yesterday, he pretended he wasn’t hiring her, likely to keep her from other managers.

Take Manager Goodman in procurent as an example—he’s arrogant and way too flirtatious.

If he knew Lucy was joining, he’d have fought Manager Johnson for her.

But now it’s settled; she’s Manager Johnson’s secretary, and Goodman can only envy her from afar.”

Jas frowned deeply at their wild speculations and glanced at Lucy, who had clearly heard everything.

With a mischievous smile, she looked at him.

*Cough!* Jas cleared his throat at the door, silencing the chatter instantly.

Only then did he lead Lucy into the HR office.

Inside, everyone imdiately turned to look—not at Jas, of course, but at Lucy standing behind him, including the won.

“Everyone, this is Lucy Campbell.

She’s now my secretary and part of the HR team,” Jas announced.

“Oh yeah!” The group erupted in cheers.

David wasn’t as flustered this ti.

He darted forward, extending his hand and introducing himself, “I’m David Clark.

I’ve been here since the company was founded, so I’m considered one of the veterans.

If you need any advice, feel free to ask.”

Lucy gracefully shook hands with him, but David’s composure quickly crumbled.

When Lucy pulled her hand back, he stood there awkwardly, still holding his hand up and staring at her.

Jas gave David’s rear a swift kick, scolding him, “Snap out of it!”

David snapped back to his senses, blushing furiously, and scurried back to his seat.

The others weren’t as impulsive as David.

Jas then finished introducing everyone to Lucy, who greeted them all with a warm smile.

David piped up again, “Manager Johnson, we have a new colleague in the HR team.

Aren’t you going to treat us tonight?”

This was a standard practice—when newcors joined a team, managers would often host a dinner to help everyone get acquainted and foster teamwork.

Jas readily agreed.

The group cheered, and Lucy smiled happily.

These little joys of workplace camaraderie were sothing she hadn’t noticed before.
