"Don’t be angry, Ethan. There’s a reason I didn’t tell you," Anita said after a pause.
"Why? What reason?" Ethan asked quickly. He knew Anita wouldn’t marry soone in such a hurry. There had to be so reason.
"I was just afraid that you would laugh at . After all, the last ti I broke up, I said that I would never date anyone again, but I got married so quickly afterwards." Actually, Anita had co up with an excuse a long ti ago, so she was able say it imdiately today.
"Is that so? I see." Ethan was in disbelief. So this was the reason Anita hadn’t told him about it. He actually thought that there was so secret behind Anita’s marriage.
"Who is he? Is he good to you?" Ethan smiled bitterly and continued to ask.
"His na is Owen, and he’s my senior. Do you know this IT company? He’s the CEO of this company now and he’s even been invited by our school to lecture." Anita wanted to make Owen look better, so she deliberately praised Owen.
"But—but it has only been a short ti before you married him. Do you know him? Do you know how he is really like?" Ethan questioned Anita.
"Ethan, we fell in love at first sight," Anita told him the excuse she had prepared beforehand. She knew that Ethan would not believe her easily, so Anita had thought of what to say beforehand.
"Love at first sight? No, I don’t believe it," Ethan said quickly.
He knew Anita well after being friends for so many years. She had always liked people like Eric. How could her type suddenly change?
"Yes, we fell in love at first sight. We bumped into each other at school when he ca to lecture. We were attracted to each other," Anita said with a smile.
As Ethan listened to Anita and looked at the smile on her face, he knew that this was true. Anita really liked Owen and was really going to marry him.
This was a huge blow to Ethan. All of a sudden, he seed to have lost his strength and staggered a few steps back.
"Anita, do you know? All these years, I’ve treated you, treated you..." Ethan murmured softly, and almost blurted out what was on his mind.
"Ethan, are you okay?" Anita asked with concern when she saw Ethan’s expression.
When Ethan ca back to his senses, he waved his hand weakly and said, "I’m fine. I’ll leave now." The truth was too sad. Ethan was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he would blurt it out.
It was impossible for them to be a couple, but he still wanted to be friends. Ethan could only leave.
"Ethan, I’ll send you back," Anita said as she looked at Ethan, who was clearly in a bad mood.
"There’s no need. I can go back myself," Ethan said with a cold voice. It was torturous for Anita to ask to send him back. At this ti, Ethan just wanted to leave quietly.
Finally, he made it all the way to the school gate and to a place where Anita couldn’t see him. Only then did Ethan dare to release his sadness. After all these years of companionship and waiting, he had thought that Anita would pay attention to him after her breakup.
He had thought about confessing to Anita after Anita had walked out of the anguish Eric had caused her, but he hadn’t expected her to get married.
Besides, the person Anita was going to marry was so outstanding that he could not be compared to him at all. What reason could he have to stop Anita? Ethan could only force a smile.
On this side, Anita looked at Ethan’s back as he left. He looked so lonely and sad.
She wondered why Ethan suddenly acted this way.
For years, she had treated Ethan as her best friend and would tell him and share anything with him imdiately. So Anita thought that maybe it was because she hadn’t told Ethan this ti that she had upset him.
So she thought that when she had ti in a few days, she would definitely treat Ethan to a big al and apologize. Perhaps he would forgive her.
Anita didn’t think too much about the reason, and felt that Ethan liking her was definitely impossible. The two of them had already known each other for so many years and were extrely good friends. They were like buddies.
Finally, when she could not see Ethan’s back anymore, Anita turned around and returned to the laboratory. There was still a little bit to wrap up for today’s experint.
That night, Owen even arranged to et her at the café. He said that they had already decided on the date of their marriage, so he would have to discuss the details with Anita one last ti, as well as the clothes they would wear on their wedding day.
The thought of it gave Anita a headache. It was as if they were really a married couple.
