Chapter 417: Good Guys
“Let us take out the other Curse Terrorist first and save the Curse Caster for last,” I declared, knowing that nobody here except Delores was willing to bear the possible consequences that would follow from trying to kill the Curse Caster. They could be heartless when needed, but right now it wasn’t necessary. Reinforcents were on the way; they just needed to stall.
Matthews, of all people, wasn’t willing to decide on this, which should be enough to tell one why these guys never entered the ‘World of Curses’ or played for the C.I.B. and not the other team. Believe , with their curse abilities, each of them would be welcod into the other team with open arms and handso rewards. Yet, they stayed with the side that wouldn’t hesitate to use them as disposable pawns.
I guess they were the definition of ‘Good Guys’ in my new world.
“Good idea. Also, leave the one with the beard. He is controlling the fused curse dominion. Save him for the second last,” EAD Matthews agreed to leave the Curse Caster alone. The risk wasn’t worth it. This was the first ti her baby girl was participating in an operation with her.
She did not want this sudden operation to be rembered for the tragedy it could turn out to be, but as the ti when she and her daughter finally began to bond. Her mortal husband and in-laws lived in this town. They did not have a fancy array protecting them like the Landers did. If sothing were to happen to them, she couldn’t face her daughter, let alone console her. Though Matthews didn’t show it, she had a lot riding on this sudden operation.
Nodding at Matthews and Janice, I aid. Thanks to the Leprechaun scope’s ability, it was easy for to weed out the Caster and Core from the other two, easily. Among the remaining two, I decided to take aim at the one with the greater curse energy. I took my ti and fired, pressing on the trigger. As always, the recoil threw back, but Delores caught in ti. Well, she stood right behind .
anwhile, Sonia eagerly asked Ava, “What do you think? Can you dodge it?”
“What kind of rifle is that? It shot out lightning,” Ava uttered in astonishnt and awe. However, Sonia hung her head dejected, deducing from her friend’s words that she had not even seen the projectile within the lightning. It was clear that at her current level Ava wasn’t capable of dodging Ace’s rifle.
…
‘Fuck, Banner. How is this drone still able to communicate with its user from within the subspace? Shouldn’t that be impossible?’ the curse terrorist group’s captain asked in panic, having sensed the drone was still in contact with its user through the rather odd fluctuations of its curse energy signature.
‘Captain, it’s technically not a subspace per se. It’s just a point in space that has been stretched to fit about 300 cubic ters of volu. Therefore, its captives are still able to use the regular communication channels normally. Also, it can see and hear. I guess talking ntally worked in our favor, huh,’ Banners explained.
The slave catcher curse tool they had was a mass-produced version of the original slave catcher curse tool. To make it possible, the mass-produced versions had many downgrades compared to the original one. Still, it was handy and popular among its clientele, whom it was nad after, despite being sold at a markup price.
It was remarkable that they were able to mass produce this curse tool in the first place. Proving that if there was enough demand in the market, soone would always find a way. It was only a matter of when.
‘Just tell how to stop it?’ the captain asked impatiently, fearing that the people they were looking for would find them before they did them and make a run for it.
‘There is nothing we can do about it. That is why they mostly use the slave catchers against mortals and newborn curse slaves,’ Banner answered with a complaining tone.
After all, no matter how devoted he was to the cause, it did not change his misgivings about entering a hostile country with subpar gear. Therefore, he couldn’t help but form an opinion. They could have just asked him to kill himself and be done with it.
‘Watch your tone, Banner. Don’t forget we were sent here together. We are in the sa boat. Trust , this is way better compared to what our predecessors had to work with,’ the captain tried to get Banner to keep his eye on the prize rather then let fear spark mischief in his mind.
‘If you say so, captain—’ Banner was interrupted with the sound of a sudden bloody scream. It was David; his right leg from the knee down was blown off clean.
“What the fuck!” Egger exclaid, pissed that he was interrupted again. However, he cald down, sensing his curse on their captain being triggered. When he turned to check, he found their captain hovering in the air lifelessly with a bullet-sized hole in his head. It was through and through, while his hand still tightly clutched the orb.
“The bullet got deflected exiting the captain’s head and took out your leg. Looks like your luck is off today, David. Hey, it could have been worse. So get yourself together and remove us out of the sniper’s sight,” Banner deduced and instructed, nonchalantly filling in for their captain.
“Egger, how bad is it?” Banner asked as David made use of the fused Curse dominion’s enhanced ability to hide themselves, though it would limit their activities if they planned to stay hidden. But this was enough to buy them ti to decide on their next course of action.
…
“Mr. Bridie!” Dee3 suddenly scread in anguish, startling the others who were waiting for Ace to tell them if he took out one of the curse terrorists or not.
With all the eyes on her, Dee3, with tears and snot running down her cheeks and nose, barely managed to squeeze the words, “Mr. Bridie is dead.”
“Ace, please tell it wasn’t you,” Delores asked, knowing that even small instability while using the rail rifle could cause the projectile to miss the mark by a huge margin.
