"Good, I hope you have the sa smug look when Cyclops cos to study the Rail Rifle," Janice sneered, giving up prussing her landlord’s treachery.
"If he cos, that is," I said with an even greater smile on my face, knowing that Cyclops would be too busy trying to uncover the mysteries of Emi’s talisman and had no ti for anyone except his studies and his Monarch.
"You are crazy!" Janice exclaid in astonishnt, realizing that maybe it wasn’t just Cyclops who tricked her little landlord, but the other way was true, too.
"..." I just smiled wider in response to Janice’s sudden enlightennt.
Everyone thought I pretty much signed a one-sided curse contract with Cyclops. Though it gave access to enough knowledge to beco a capable Void-tier curse crafter, it also limited from revealing what I was learning to others. As a result, I can only depend on myself to learn this entirely new field. However, until Janice, no one figured out that my curse contract with Cyclops wasn’t one-sided.
"You better hope he never figures out, the monarch’s promise and the curse contract might stop him from taking any direct actions on you, but soone of his caliber is never short of ans," Janice warned, noting to be cautious when doing any transaction with her little landlord.
Shaking her head, Janice prepared to continue her call with EAD Matthews, but just then she heard the latter’s voice, "Don’t bother, I am right here."
Matthews wasn’t alone. She had co with a few familiar faces. Agent Sugermite, Agent Man Hunter, Agent Layla, and the two trainees, Ava and Sonia. They were all in the flying canoe curse tool Janice lent her.
Seeing Dee3 alive and kicking, Sonia was lost in a world of her own. Her mind wandered. She was physically present but ntally absent. She had to, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to process her turbulent emotions of learning Dee3, for so reason, wasn’t dead but alive.
Though it had only been a few hours, it was the most emotionally self-reflective hours of Sonia’s life. Mathews had repeatedly warned her that one misstep and she wouldn’t hesitate to boot her. The thought that her impulsive behaviour might have sabotaged the opportunity to enter C.I.B. and go legit, which her father bought for her by selling himself and his guild to the C.I.B., was killing her.
She couldn’t begin to fathom how to salvage the situation. Framing Lyra for Dee3’s murder would only buy her so ti—it wouldn’t solve anything. She nearly lost her mind as EAD Matthews kept repeatedly confirming her alibi, questioning where she had vanished that morning. If not for the godsend of the enemy attack, she might have either broken down or confessed. Dropping the hamr and sealing her fate.
"Hi, there, you okay? You look like you have seen a ghost," Dee3 teased thunderstruck Sonia, as the latter left a very arrogant and nasty first impression on her. It wasn’t easy for Dee3 to form an ill bias about soone. She even forgave the governnt that created, experinted on, and enslaved her. For soone like her to hold a grudge against you, one can only imagine that Sonia was asking for it.
"I’m fine, thank you, ma’am," Sonia politely replied, pretending to be unfamiliar with the latter when she had almost killed the latter just a few hours ago.
"Hi, Ace," Ava finally decided on greeting her crush/rival. She knew he would be hers once she defeated him. Now that her mother and other senior agents had done their best to beat the curse world’s hierarchy and power system into her, she didn’t dare to challenge him like last ti rashly. She planned to wait till she advanced to Knight-tier.
"Hi, Ava," I replied uninterestedly. If not for her mother being present, I wouldn’t even bother. Also, I think she only greeted to piss her mother off. EAD Matthews seed to be cozying to the idea of not being under governnt reign. However, not enough to see as her future son-in-law, unlike my mother, who has already given Ava her blessings.
"Enough chit-chat, so what have you guys found?" Matthews thundered before asking Janice to start briefing them.
"We believe there are at least sky-tier 4 curse terrorists, using shared dominion, and we also have reasons to believe one of them is a curse master. What did you guys find on your way here?" Janice reported and then asked for an update.
"Nothing new, but we can confirm your findings are correct. Agent Layla used her curseling partner to confirm that there are only four of them, and each of them is a sky-tier curse master. As for one of them being a curse caster, that’s news to us," EAD Matthews shared with a deep frown, because if there was truly a Sky-tier curse caster among the enemy, then they just lost the advantage of numbers. Anybody below Sky-tier would die from a were glance or a word from the Curse caster.
"Also, the enemy has a weird sub-space prison-type curse tool. We can’t approach them directly without sacrificing a few of our people to it," Dee3 added, feeling that the group was overlooking an important piece of information.
"Don’t worry about it. I have already deduced what type of curse tool they are using based on your description of it. It is very popular among the slave traders, but trying to mass produce it, its crafter compromised with its abilities. Making it is very easy to counter it. The mont you get struck by the bubble, just replace yourself with an article of clothing on your body. It will swallow that clothing. The bubble doesn’t have any intelligence, and the user isn’t capable of controlling it except for recalling it into the sub-space," Janice explained, revealing why she did not consider the curse tool employed by the curse terrorist a threat to them.
"Then, do you know how Mr. Birdie can free himself?" Dee3 eagerly asked. Unlike Janice, who consus tonnes of curse tool catalogs for inspiration, Dee3 has been in isolation for decades. So, she wasn’t as knowledgeable about the curse tools in the market as Janice.
