"Sigh, I know he took it. Otherwise, who else will take money from my purse? Not your father, of course. Nor you, if you need money, you go to your father. That leaves Ace. he would usually co to you for money, but since you quit your job and are counting pennies yourself. He couldn’t co to you. It was obvious who did it. Besides, the next day, I saw a new addition to his figurines while cleaning his room," Mary revealed, shaking her head.

She knew all of her kids’ toys even better than they did. They might play with them, but she was the only one who cleaned after them. Especially her son. He likes to neatly arrange his Action figures on his study table, pc desk, nightstand, window sill, etc. It made vacuuming his room very hard. She had to dust it by hand and be careful not to scratch any of them.

Not to ntion, he enjoyed arranging his action figures in a specific sequence. If she were to change the order of the actions figure or misplace one, he would complain the whole day. So, she made sure to place them back where she had picked them up after she was done cleaning. As such, she had her son’s action figure arrangent sequence by heart. The sequence only changed if he bought a new toy. Therefore, it was hard for her not to notice her son getting a new toy a day after she was missing a twenty.

"Mom, you knew? Why didn’t you call out?" Ace asked in astonishnt.

"Because that toy might have been important enough for you to take money from my purse without my permission. Besides, you’re not a little kid anymore. Trust , calling you out then and punishing you would only have done more harm than good. Also, I am just relieved that you didn’t try to steal the action figure from the store," Mary explained, finally regaining her composure. Yes, her kids were a handful, but they were not bad.

"Yes, it was important, Mom. Rember the unopened Demi Danger action figure in mint condition—the one I lost to a classmate in a wager?" I asked, planning to co clean.

"How can I not? You wagered it and lost, but I was the one who was punished," Lyra remarked, clearly feeling their mother was biased toward her baby bro. She forgave him for borrowing money from her purse without her permission but she whooped her ass hard for borrowing makeup from her purse without her knowledge. If this was not biased parenting, then what was?

"That’s because you told that I would be able to double my action figure that way. But you forgot to ntion I could lose my action figure if I lost," I pointed out the full truth.

Seeing I was struggling between keeping the new action figure in mint condition or opening it and playing with it, Lyra introduced to the world of gambling, only tempting with its gains and forgetting to warn about its losses. As a result, I learned about it the hard way. That night, I was devastated and wouldn’t stop crying, so my parents ended up getting mad at Lyra for being a bad influence on her little brother.

"Is it my fault that you are too dumb to know what a wager is? Dumbass," Lyra snapped, showing she was still very mad at him for what he did.

"I was nine!" I said, barely putting up a defense for myself, as I too felt it was my fault for being blinded about what happens if I win, and never considering what if I lose. However, one good thing did co out of that: I never gambled again.

"How does it make it my fault?" Lyra still did not accept her responsibility.

"Anyways, that fellow finally caved and was willing to sell it back to for 50 bucks. It was worth the price, as it was still in the sa condition I lost it. So, I sold several of my OG gas at the pawn shop and made 30 bucks, and would soon reach my quota by selling an extra limited edition comic I had.

But he said he found another buyer, it’s now or never, so I took the money from your purse planning to replace it with 20 bucks that I make from selling my limited edition comic book, but before I could replace the money I took the incident at the mall happened and you thought you misplaced the 20 dollars, so now I couldn’t replace it even if I wanted to," I explained in detail making sure my mother knew she did not raise a child who would steal from her, as for stealing in general lets not go there.

"I knew, I didn’t raise thieves. But honey, why did you remove it from the box if it ant so much to you?" Mary asked, she always showed interest in her kids’ interests. Seeing them happy relieved her fatigue and energized her.

"I accidentally squeezed it, and the box got ruined," I answered. It wasn’t a lie, just a less detailed narration of what actually happened. Let sum it up with two words: Mark happened. That day, I was grateful that the action figure was still in one piece. My hobbies helped make it through difficult tis.

My mother believed , but my sister did not so much. It appeared like she was stopping herself from asking what actually happened, thinking it’s not like she could do anything about it now, and reminding herself that what a jerk I have been to her today.

"Ace, you know I trust you, but I have to ask you this, so please be honest with and let us help you, are you stalking Janice?" Mary asked with a grave expression. Knowing that if Janice had gone to the cops with this, the consequences would have been disastrous.

"No, I am not. You have seen Ava, right? She is way hotter than Janice. Why would I stalk an almost middle–aged woman when I can be with a hot girl of my age with a simple text? She is just being paranoid because I know this embarrassing past of hers. I only know it because her cousin Elinor told , there is nothing to it. However, I might have led her to believe I was eavesdropping on her calls to prank her. I didn’t think it would go so horribly wrong," I lied through my teeth to prove my innocence to my mother. Also, I found out that my mother truly wouldn’t mind if I were to date Ava.

"I see, so it’s all just a prank gone wrong?" Mary asked and found her son nodding vigorously. Only then did her brows ease as she inford, "That’s a relief, but co clean about it to Janice and apologize. You guys have grown up. I don’t like having to monitor your every move. Especially you, Lyra. Whatever your differences are, find a way to hash them out before lunch. You guys are brother and sister, for goodness’ sake. Otherwise, just skip your als until you guys get along. I don’t want to have to repeat myself."

Mary gave her kids an ultimatum and left without wasting any more of her ti. She was famished and didn’t have the patience to start making pancakes from scratch, so she decided to have an olet and toast.
