Chapter 393: Preparing For Unknown & Unpredictable
Following Ace’s gaze, Lyra turned to look at the little girl squatting in front of a tall transparent grass surrounding a girl who was staring into the void as if she were possessed.
“The little one is Lilith, an eight-year-old mortal-tier curse slave, and the big one is Elinor, a Knight-tier curse caster. Yet, they possess the strength to fight Void-tier. To be accurate, Elinor killed a Void-tier curseling not long ago. So, don’t you dare underestimate anyone based on their tier and appearance. Otherwise, you will be dead before you can regret it,” Ace said as they walked past the manor and to the servant villa where Dee3 moved in last night.
“If they are that strong, what are they doing renting your manor?” Lyra asked skeptically, thinking Ace was exaggerating to get his point across.
“Because I paid them 100 billion dollars in full to guard our family—”
“Get out of here. Has earning a few million made you delusional? Reality to Ace, wake up!” Lyra mocked, calling bull, as soon as she heard Ace say he paid 100 billion dollars. She knows her baby bro had recently co into a lot of money, a few million dollars at best, but a 100 billion dollars, not even a three-year-old would believe it.
“Forget it, you will find out in ti,” Ace said, shaking his head. After they climbed the patio of the servant villa, as he rang the doorbell, he inford his sister, “Dee3 is a Curse user, a very knowledgeable one at that. She is a living encyclopedia on everything curse-related. If you ever find yourself unable to discuss sothing about curses with or questions about curses that Matthews cannot answer, you can go to her. She will give her best to help you as she is the kindest curse user you can find in the two worlds.”
After saying that, knowing his sister Ace couldn’t help but add, “Don’t take advantage of her kindness.”
Lyra couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows at Ace’ remark. She had t Dee3 last night, and she seed like a kind lady, but her brother’s words made it seem like she was a saint that this world didn’t deserve.
“What is it?” A sleepy and ssy Dee3 soon answered the door in her PJs. Her eyes were barely open. Seeing her state, Lyra gave her baby bro a side glance and snorted.
“Get cleaned and dressed, my parents have invited you for breakfast,” Ace said, recalling his first eting with Dee3. She loved her booze and was lazier than his sister.
“I am not hungry, go away,” Dee3 said, dozing off, leaning against the door fra. Having finally moved out of her birthplace, she celebrated with her favourite wine, and her cyborg animal family didn’t stop her.
“Dee3, wake up. They want to discuss your lease agreent,” Ace reminded her of the importance of the breakfast with his parents.
“Do I have to be present for that? Can’t you handle it for ?” Dee3 bargained sleepily.
“If you don’t want to lease this place, then you don’t have to be present. But you will have to move out—”
“No, I’m up! I’m up! Give a minute,” Dee3 jumped in fright, hearing the words move out before rushing back into the house to get cleaned and dressed.
“I like her,” Lyra comnted, but soon her face turned sour, recalling that her lazy days were now over thanks to her ddling little brother.
“Great. She is new to the town. She needs a friend. Why don’t you start by showing her around the town?” Ace suggests hoping Lyra could get along with Dee3. One was smart and the other was strong. They both could use each other.
From Matthews to Dee3, there was a reason why Ace was doing his best to connect Lyra to them all, one way or the other. He planned to help his sister build an ecosystem of friends such that she could be independent even in the ‘World of Curses.’
Don’t get him wrong, he will always be there for his elder sister, even without her asking him. However, Ace knew that he couldn’t control or foresee everything. So, he was preparing for such a day.
“I thought you two were friends,” Lyra remarked in doubt.
“We are, but I have a feeling you guys will get long better,” Ace lied. He saw two paths their odd friendship was heading into, one where Lyra would boss Dee3 around, or the other where, by being around Lyra, Dee3 would learn to start putting herself first. Statistically, the latter seed unlikely.
“So, how do I look? Do you think your parents will like it?” Dee3 ca out dressed in all leather like a Balenciaga super model, leaving the Lander siblings’ mouths wide and hanging.
Misinterpreting their reaction, Dee3 gloated, saying, “Thunder, sewed this outfit for , taking inspiration from the latest fashion catalog. Don’t worry, this is almost synthetic leather made from the skin I developed for my cyborgs.”
Ace honestly had no idea where to start: The cyborg elephant tailor or its fashion-deaf master. Shoving his dumbfounded sister inside the villa and closing the door behind her, he instructed, “Help her to get dressed like a normal person. I will be waiting at ho.”
“This is not funny—” Lyra scread, opening the door in rage, only to find an empty front porch. Still, she cried, “Ace, get back here.” She waited till it got awkward, getting no response, she awkwardly turned to face confused Dee3 and introduced herself, “Hi, I am Lyra. We t last night, rember.”
“Yes, Ace’s sister, right? Is sothing wrong with my outfit?” Dee3 got to the point, feeling the Lander siblings did not appreciate Thunder’s talent and effort.
“Regular people don’t dress like that. That outfit is more of a statent than casual attire. Just go and throw on the cleanest pair of t-shirts and jeans you can find in your closet. That’s what I do,” Lyra suggested, pointing at her attire with a self-deprecating humor.
