Chapter 772: Chapter 774: Looking for a Teacher
Nian Shutong spoke without much thought, but the elderly man stood up excitedly and asked her, “Are you really willing to donate so many books?”
“Not willing.”
Nian Shutong saw the man’s excitent fade like a quenched fla and explained, “Elder Zhu, I don’t have the ti. I still have classes to attend, and after classes, I must return ho.”
“I won’t always stay at school.”
“I knew you were just boasting!”
The elderly man shook his head and said, “Books are the proof of human progress. I enjoy reading, and many teachers and professors do too, but the existing number of books is far too few.”
Nian Shutong looked thoughtful and asked the elder, “If I had a library entirely of ancient books, would you leave here to join my place?”
“All ancient books?” The elder seed slightly tempted and said, “I’d like to, but I can’t leave the school.”
He expressed a touch of regret with his last words.
Nian Shutong, empathizing deeply, responded, “No worries. As long as I am still here, I will keep writing books. Books are never ant to be read just once.”
“Ha Ha Ha Ha! The lass is quite insightful.”
The elderly man gestured for Nian Shutong to sit, and they sat facing each other.
“Tell , do you want to go, or do you want soone else to go?”
“People say that the old turn crafty with age, and today I see it’s true indeed.”
Nian Shutong poured water for the elder without hiding her intentions, “As you know, I have a ‘planet’, and to have a planet, you need people.”
“Having people ans having children to continue the lineage, but children need teachers, and I don’t have any for now.”
The elder agreed with Nian Shutong’s words and asked, “Are you looking to recruit so teachers to go there?”
“That’s the idea, but to be honest, I can’t just pick any teacher; they must be of good character too.”
The elder nodded, agreeing.
“Okay, I’ll handle this for you.”
The elder jiggled his teapot and asked, “Tea?”
“Rest assured, it’s on .”
“Good! I love talking to a straightforward person like you.”
The elder set down his teapot and said, “Every year, there are quite a few teachers who retire. So don’t want to work anymore, and so would, but find it a bit dull. There are always so good teachers. I’ll look for them. You can then make a selection.”
Nian Shutong stood up and bowed to the elder, “Thank you for your support.”
“Sit down. If my ntor were here, he’d definitely be most keen to help,” the elder said, sowhat nostalgically. “I don’t know where that old fellow has gone. He loved teaching the most.”
“I’m telling you. Although he said he was retiring to travel, he actually went to teach in so remote places.”
“That man, he couldn’t stand spending a day without teaching.”
Thinking of the relationships among Hua Yuan, Elder Zhu, and Elder Hua, Nian Shutong simply nodded on the side, but she didn’t ntion a thing about Elder Hua’s whereabouts.
This matter should be discussed by Fu Yunhe at the very least; it wasn’t her place to intrude.
Nian Shutong quickly exited the library. As she left, it coincided with the school’s last class ending, and many people were coming and going.
Thus, Nian Shutong also spotted a familiar person, Zhao Dai.
At that mont, Zhao Dai, with a bag of rice on her back, was humming a tune as she walked, occasionally speaking up without anyone asking, as long as people looked her way.
“It’s nothing special, just won a bag of rice from Little River Live.”
“Honestly, my household couldn’t eat it all, and yet here cos another big bag.”
Zhao Dai’s statents definitely attracted so envy.
Several people behind her comnted pointedly.
“What’s there to show off?”
“Exactly, it’s just rice, aren’t you sick of eating it every day?”
“Showing off. Even with the rice, she’s still a bumpkin.”
“Exactly, look, no one wants to walk with her. They all avoid her. It’s just about the food.”
“Sister-in-law!”
Nian Shutong called out loudly, making Zhao Dai stop ahead and look back at the approaching Nian Shutong.
“Sis, co over for dinner at sister-in-law’s place tonight, I’m making braised pork.”
“I’m telling you, the soup from that braised pork mixed with rice tastes absolutely amazing.”
Nian Shutong listened to Zhao Dai with a smile and finally responded, “Got it, sister-in-law. I’m in for a treat today.”
“Ha ha ha ha! Yes, living next to your sister-in-law’s place, I’ll make sure you get a treat every day.”
Nian Shutong walked alongside Zhao Dai, even helping her support the bag to ease her burden a little.
The several won following them didn’t recognize Nian Shutong and, not being students themselves but spouses, were unfamiliar with Nian’s reputation.
“Who is that woman?”
“Don’t know, probably a new faculty spouse, otherwise how could she get along so well with Zhao Dai?”
“Has so teacher’s spouse arrived?”
“Must have snuck in, looking like that.”
“Heh heh heh heh, you’re right.”
“Fish find fish, shrimp find shrimp, those two are cut from the sa cloth.”
The won speculated wildly behind them, crafting theories based on their own assumptions, but were imdiately proven wrong.
Just as classes ended, several of the won’s husbands also ca back, coincidentally walking towards them.
Before the won could greet them, they saw their husbands stopping in front of Zhao Dai and Nian Shutong.
“Hello, Professor Nian.”
“Professor Nian.”
“Hello, Professor Nian.”
They all stopped to greet Nian Shutong, now close enough for the trailing won to see and hear.
“Is she a professor?”
“How is that possible, she’s so young.”
“They couldn’t all be wrong.”
“Why would a professor be with Zhao Dai?”
“Who knows?”
Feeling sowhat jealous and inferior, the won didn’t dare to say much thereafter, not even about Zhao Dai.
Who knew whether their friendship was genuine or not?
On the other hand, Nian Shutong’s re presence made everyone behind her shut up.
Sotis, status really does co in handy.
After helping Zhao Dai carry her things ho, Nian Shutong went on her way.
She wasn’t particularly keen on dining at Zhao’s, but Dai didn’t insist, though she always saved a bowl of whatever she cooked for Nian.
To show her appreciation, Nian would occasionally reciprocate, and the two families grew increasingly cordial.
anwhile, at the library, she continued to send books every day, and so another ten days passed.
