Chapter 56: BIGGEST RIVAL
Abigail
The lunch spot two blocks from Wolfe Corporation was a sanctuary.
"You’re going to eat that? Or shall I?" Marcus wiggled his brows, ogling his sandwich when he had a heaping pile of fries on his plate. I swear, n were gluttons.
Kate leaned in beside , her hair brushing my shoulders, and whispered loud enough for Marcus and Ted to hear, "Maybe if we pretend we can’t hear him, he’ll leave soon."
I snickered at the sour face Marcus made, throwing his shoulders up as he scoffed. "You two are going to miss
when I’m gone,"
"The only thing I’ll be missing is your perfu," Kate said, slapping his hand away from her food.
"Oooh, so you like the way he slls," Ted cooed, and her face turned red like an overripe tomato.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I watched them tease her, biting into my sandwich when my mind did that thing again.
Wandering off to Finnegan Wolfe.
I had ordered and received his lunch before I ca on my lunch break, but considering yesterday’s lunch had ended up cold and, in the trash, can, there was a more likely chance that today’s lunch would as well.
With the launch coming in, he had gotten even busier, stricter, wanting everything perfect down to the last detail and trying to oversee everything himself.
It was incredible how hard he pushed himself. Hell, it was sexy seeing him hunched over his desk, coat gone, sleeves rolled up, and his forehead pulled into a frown as he tapped on his computer.
I had wanted to kiss that frown away so many tis, but I loved my job too much to risk that. His icy ass would fire
right on the spot.
"Isn’t that Alicia?" Ted’s question drew
out of my thoughts.
My head whipped in the direction he was facing, and sure enough, a familiar blonde bar-bitch was by the counter of the restaurant, laughing at sothing so guy wearing the tackiest red suit I had ever seen in my life was saying.
There was no way he was that funny; she had to be laughing at his suit or sothing. Etched on the suit was a logo I had seen from ti to ti in so of our files. A dove.
My brows snapped together as realization hit . It seed the rest of my coworkers noticed it as well. "What is she doing with soone who works at Carlton automobiles?"
"And with Kyle Edmund of all people," Kate muttered. "He was fired six months ago by the boss for trying to hack into the admin database of the company. Nobody knows why but well..."
She tilted her head at him and I figured. It ant he must have been doing that for Carlton because wasn’t it odd wth how strong the rivalry was between Carlton and Wolfe, that Carlton would pick up an employee that was thrown out of Wolfe Corp?
Why the fuck Alicia was eting with him?
Carlton Automobiles was Wolfe’s biggest rival in the automobile industry. They weren’t exactly on par with us, but they were very aggressive competitors.
There was no way Alicia didn’t know who he worked for unless she was as dumb as she looked. Her eyes moved around the diner and landed on our table. They widened before she flashed us a smile and looked away.
"I can’t believe she would go on a date with a dude from Carlton and not go on one with ," Marcus sighed dramatically.
"Aww, are you trying to catch STDs?"
He winked at , wiggling his brows, "I wouldn’t have asked her if you would go out with ."
That drew a laugh out of . Marcus had never asked
out, and I was very certain he hadn’t asked Alicia out, either, and was just being his dramatic, goofy self. His eyes flickered towards Kate, and my brows shot up.
Interesting, wasn’t that?
Kate’s lips curled in disgust as she stabbed her pasta. "You are such a manwhore, you know that?"
"Only you can change , baby,"
Oh my gosh, they were definitely into each other.
A slow smile curled on my lips as an idea ford in my head when my phone shrilled loudly in the air. I whipped it out from my purse, knowing that ringtone by heart. The big bad boss was calling.
"I have to go,"
"Aweso, I get to have your sandwich- "
I snatched my half-eaten sandwich off the plate, gave Marcus an appalled look, a grin, and shot him the middle finger. "Order yours, thief."
Ted and Kate’s laughter rang behind
as I strutted out of the café, swiping to receive the call.
"Miss Kellerman," His deep voice seeped through the receiver, curling around my ears and running over my skin like warm lted chocolate. "I apologize for cutting your lunch short. I need the report from each departnt on the launch ASAP."
"I’ll be there in ten minutes, sir."
It took seven minutes to get back to the company, and two minutes to go up the elevator. I wolfed down the rest of my sandwich in those two minutes.
I t my boss standing next to my desk, tapping rapidly on his phone. His head raised when he heard my heels click against the floor as I approached, and those eyes had their usual blank look on them.
It was a bit unnerving to see him standing around my desk, but I clamped it down and reached for my tablet.
"The full report is about forty-two pages, sir."
He pocketed his phone and raised a brow, arrogantly. "Your point is?"
"You’re fitting for your suit at Alderton’s in twenty minutes."
He pushed off my desk, straightening his suit jacket. I watched his shoulders move and felt that hot liquid stirring in my thighs again. I would give anything for him to fuck
again.
"Then you’ll read it to
while they fit . Let’s go."
I picked up my bag, my tablet, and followed him to the elevator, sending a ssage to Jas to bring the car around for the boss.

The drive to Alderton took so fifteen minutes. It was a tall building that had no signage or na outside and looked just like a regular house until we stepped in. A man with silver hair, all dressed up in a dark suit, opened the door slightly.
"Mr. Wolfe is here for his one o’clock appointnt," I supplied, aware of my boss in question standing behind .
The butler gave a brisk nod and ushered us inside. "Mr. Wolfe, welco. Your suits are pressed and ready.’
"Good." Finn handed his coat to an attendant who appeared to take it. "We’ll need so privacy. My EA will be working with
while we fit."
"Of course. Right this way."
I fell into step half a pace behind, tapping on my tablet to open the reports docunt. The dressing room was large enough to house a bedroom. I would have noticed more details if my boss hadn’t begun to strip.
