"Dr–Dragon?"

The shout attracted the crowd. They all turned toward the sky in the distance. For a second they forgot the worry and fear in their hearts.

The creature in the sky didn’t seem big. But its built reminded the crowd of the old tales and songs. The minstrels and bards often painted a vivid description of the dragons. Their massive wingspans, their horned head and tail, their ability to control the elents, and their strength.

People loved hearing about the once-rulers of the sky. They were extinct. Or rare. Either way, no one had ever seen one. They were a source of awe and reverence for many.

The night sky obstructed a clear sight of the dragon. But the almost infinite amount of thin threads in the sky pushed the darkness a little. The thick beam of golden light also shone and revealed its massive outline.

"Is this why were are held captives?"

Another shout broke the serene silence. The crowd gasped. True. They looked at each other. The thin thread coming out of each one didn’t disappear. It was still there, flowing out of their body. It didn’t hurt. Not that they could sense it.

But the unknown always garnered fear. The explorers of the ruin stood in the conquered market district. None had any experience dealing with Fate. The majority didn’t even know it existed. The ones who knew didn’t know they could be seen or gathered. None knew what would happen once their Fate ran out. So they trembled in fear. So cried. Others cursed. They prayed for Heaven’s rcy, hoping, even begging, to survive this ordeal.

"What is happening over there? Can soone tell ?" Rayos, the target of many of their curses, stood at his tower. His relaxed and lazy deanor changed when Paula showed the Dragon. Like others, he felt shocked, then worried, and finally...fearful.

But neither of the two ladies beside him replied. The Oracle’s eyes were wide open and she gaped. Her mind was a ss. In none of her visions did she anticipate a dragon appearing. She forgot, once the dragons ruled the sky. Their Fate couldn’t be seen.

The Star Sword’s eyes twinkled. Her shock wasn’t less than her companions but with no stake in the happenings inside the Temple district, she relished in such a rare event. Her mind filled with thoughts about how she could brag about seeing a dragon to the other Paladins.

She did glance at Rayos though. But he didn’t notice it, too occupied by the appearance of the dragon. She debated whether to make a move but decided to wait a bit longer. The threads still hung in the air. Soon it would be ti to fulfill her task.

...

She pulled it off!

A young man in his teens stood on a hill outside the ruins. He sipped from a glass of wine, looking amused.

The young man’s features could charm everyone. It didn’t matter whether they were n, won, or even human...or even sentient.

"Impossible. Dragons should be extinct. Seeing one alive...how beautiful."

Edward stood behind the Divine Lord and blurted. A silly smile hung on his face. But when he sensed everyone looking at him, he almost peed his pants. He hurried behind Ericka and lowered his face. His heart raced wildly against his chest. He forgot himself. He was nothing but an average man standing in the middle of extraordinary ones. How could he forget his place and open his mouth? He was n–

A soft hand slipped into his and gripped it. It wasn’t hard. It didn’t hurt. It was pleasant. He looked and saw Ericka give him a little smile. He hoped it was a smile. She withdrew her hand. "It’s indeed beautiful," he heard her whisper. No one heard it. It was ant for him. Edward stood taller. An average man like him was easily pleased.

"My Lord."

A group in rags approached. Ella stood at the front. She bowed as soon as she got close enough. Elron and the Steller Shield stood behind her. Neither bowed. But both looked...worried.

You guys seem worse than I expected. I didn’t think with your group sothing could put you in such a dire strait.

"Things were going well. We even found the leather-bound book. But soone stole it. We failed."

Ella didn’t beat around the bush. She shivered but as a rchant, she knew how to deal with others, especially her superiors. Wasting the leader’s ti, after having failed a task, would only serve to infuriate the leader more. So, she just ca clear.

I see. That’s...disappointing. Well. Nothing we can do for now. Let’s just enjoy the final monts of my old rival and friend.

Everyone – those already there and those who joined with Ella – looked surprised. The Divine Lord wasn’t one to have rcy. In the short ti they spent with Him, they knew He didn’t like failures. Not when he desired sothing as much as that leather-bound book.

No one questioned Him though. No one dared to. So, everyone turned their gaze at the sky. To witness a dragon. It might not be a sight they would see anyti soon, if ever.

...

Interesting. You are a peculiar child.

A voice spoke in his head. Before his fury increased, the words helped cool his anger. It felt magical. Perhaps it was. He sensed sothing inside his inner space stir. The Dragonite in his inner space purred. It seed to enjoy the presence of sothing on the outside.

Slowly, the anger ebbed. Hex felt his thoughts return. Distorted and slow. But they returned. As did the mories of the short amount he blanked out.

The blurriness around him cleared. He beca aware of his surroundings. He felt a gaze, cold yet familiar on him. He focussed and finally saw it. Saw her. The Frost Dragon flapped her wings, causing gales and howls. Her presence dropped the temperature of the surroundings even further.

But Hex felt comfortable. At the sa ti, he sensed the waning energy and presence of life. She was dying. But she didn’t seem worried. Perhaps his face betrayed his thoughts. The Frost Dragon soothed him.

Death had co for ages ago. I am grateful to have sneaked around it till you appeared. Don’t forget your promise. Help raise that child. Let my kind soar the sky again.

She looked at the frozen Ti and Space around her.

I promised a last help. And I intend to fulfill my part of the deal.

Before Hex could say he would keep his promise even without pay, the Frost Dragon soared in the sky. Her wings parted the clouds. Her flight caused the sky to rumble. Her roar shook the ground, the air, the sky. Her cry relaxed all living in and around the ruin.

"Reverse Freeze!"

The Space around the Crown Prince shattered. And the light he was in, retracted. The scream of the King, the tear of the Queen, and the cry of the Prince, none could drown the cry of the Dragon.
