"Did you sense it?"
Elsa stood at the window of her small house, facing toward the south, enjoying her crushed ice milk with cherry flavor.
Yes. The Laws were tempered with for a brief mont.
"Must be that fool I spared when I still ruled the skies above this land. I didn’t expect that idiot to reach the Enlightened stage."
With enough ti anything is possible. A fool can turn king, a king can fall, a kingdom can turn into a ruin, and so on. Weren’t we taught that the Gods are eternal? Where are they now?
"I guess you are right," Elsa chuckled at the child sitting on the couch. With no attention on him, the Divine Lord willed his body to grow. He looked more like a child of three to four years instead of a toddler.
Of course, I am. In my many lives, I have seen all these things happen.
"Bah," Elsa snorted. "You an YOU caused ALL those things in your many lives so far. Don’t think I ignored your actions through the ages."
I just helped them achieve those things. The one thing I learned is that you humans don’t need to be taught evil. It’s in them from birth. It only requires so fostering. I am not being modest but these special kids of the Godking are capable of much more destruction than I can imagine.
"They are a bunch of worms," Elsa spat in disgust but fell silent. "But I guess, even worms can topple mountains and change the flow of destiny."
...
"We won’t wait till next week. We move out tonight."
The small camp fell in silence.
Althea and her team looked confused at the Commander. They were discussing how a week of preparations wouldn’t suffice and now the Commander wished to reduce that ti to a few days.
"Oi, Baldy," Old Gargoyle growled at the Commander. "Why are you rushing these little chicks? Didn’t we discuss the ti of our start already? So, why are you asking them to move faster?"
"I am not asking, Dollface" the Commander spoke calmly but his eyes radiated a pressure that caused the Hawks to buckle onto their knees. Only Old Gargoyle and Althea remained standing. Old Gargoyle grimaced at publicly being called by his nickna but couldn’t complain. He started it.
Althea, familiar with the Commander’s style, narrowed her eyes. She didn’t speak but nodded.
The Commander retracted his pressure, exiting the tent. As he went up the sky, his gaze narrowed. He tried to peer through the darkness but the southern districts were veiled in mystery.
’What happened there? I couldn’t sense the Laws of Wind for a few seconds.’
...
"I don’t know anything!"
Briella stood in front of her Captain in the middle of his office. The two Vice-Captains were present too.
The look on their faces showed their distrust in her words. Briella knew things were looking bad for her but she wasn’t panicking.
’At worst they will throw in the Temple district. As long as I am alive, I can survive.’
Although the Divine Lord warned her not to beco a prisoner inside the Temple district, she didn’t worry.
"Are you saying I am lying?" The self-admiring Vice-Captain slamd the table furiously and barked at her. His superior’s displeasure with his orders pressured him imnsely.
Although no amount of Knights would escape unscathed after being attacked by five Disasters, not to ntion the other creatures that made their way over the line of control, he knew his captain needed a scapegoat. And his well-maintained face suited the role perfectly.
"I don’t know. I only ca out of my room after the summoning." Briella didn’t budge from her statent, causing the Captain to frown. He contemplated sending both to his superiors. The only thing better than one scapegoat was having two of them.
Just as he wanted to pass judgnt, a heavy knock ca from the door.
"Enter."
Two people entered. A man and a woman. The man was dressed properly and the woman looked dignified. Their entrance confused everyone in the office.
"Why are you two here?"
The SS2 Captain asked with a frown. The two in front of him were his colleagues from SS1 and SS3. His mind imdiately wondered whether they ca to mock him.
Although they frequented each other beds, they didn’t actually like each other. But they lacked options. They only sought each other when the loneliness beca unbearable.
"The Gatekeeper appeared," the man said in a grave tone. The ntion of the gatekeeper caused the other two Captains to shiver. They knew the Gatekeeper’s appearance ant things had been far worse than they imagined.
"I don’t understand how things got so extre. The damn creatures were acting like they lost their peanut-like brains completely," the SS2 Captain defended himself. He didn’t realize how much he was perspiring.
"I think I know," the female Captain spoke. "We found two of our mbers in the safe house behind the well. They were attacked."
"An outsider?" The SS2 Captain stood up in shock. The others looked alard too. Briella much more than the rest.
’Was it Elron? But he wouldn’t abandon the plan like this!’ A sense of unease filled her heart.
"Yes. But not just an outsider. After talking to them we suspect the person to be part of the Dawnbringers.’
"Ah."
Briella gasped. She didn’t expect their identity to be revealed so easily. For a brief second, she lost control. But that was enough to attract the attention of all three Captains.
"You seem to have heard of them, little girl," the woman spoke, narrowing her eyes. She glanced at Briella’s superior questioningly.
"She exhibited suspicious behavior during the attack. I assud she was just trying to fra her lover and take his position. Now, I am not sure anymore."
Her Captain’s words made Briella’s heart thump wildly but she tried to remain composed. She believed she could talk her way out.
"Sir!"
Right then, a person stord into their office, holding a letter.
"We searched her room and found this letter."
Briella felt sweat stream on her back. She didn’t worry when her plan fell through, believing she could squirm her way out. But things were spiraling out of control. She never wrote or received a single page since infiltrating the SS2.
"Read it!"
Hearing the Captain’s order, the soldier opened the letter and read.
"The potions are ready. We can unleash the Disasters as planned. Destroy all Temples where the Lord isn’t praised.
Ivran
From the other side
Oh, I saw your father. The Commander looks the sa but don’t cry. As the New Dawn arrives, he will understand you."
"HE IS DEAD!"
The three Captains kept their eyes on Briella’s face the entire ti. Seeing her expression turn from confused to shocked and ultimately in fear, while she shouted, they were convinced.
