Chapter 51: Ch 51: Developing the Skills- Part 1

The morning sunlight stread through the windows as the scent of breakfast filled the air.

A day had passed since the dungeon raid, and the tense atmosphere that had lingered among the group had finally settled.

Everyone seed more at ease, though traces of exhaustion still clung to them.

Thankfully, the sll that Selene and Zara had acquired in the dungeon had washed off and they slled normal again. That cold bath had been well-worth it.

Selene sipped her tea as she listened to the muffled sound of the news playing on a nearby tablet.

The broadcaster’s voice carried a grim tone as he spoke about the worsening state of the world—the increasing dungeon breakouts, the governnt’s inability to maintain order, and how humanity’s survival looked bleak.

With the rise of the dungeons, the internet had all but fallen in usage. Most countries had put a ban on it to not spread more panic.

As a result, traditional T.V. was the only way to get any news...until the ’internet-like’ feature of the system would be realized.

So far, only Selene, Ethan, Zara and Orion seed to know that this existed.

"Hope is running out! Is this the end for humanity? Will our race be able to survive this?"

The news anchor declared, his voice edged with despair. His questions made anyone feel depressed.

Selene clicked her tongue in irritation and shut the T.V. off.

"That’s not true. Humanity is not a race that will be done-in by such things."

She muttered.

Ethan, sitting across from her, raised an eyebrow.

"You think so? To , humanity seems weak...barring a few people."

Selene nodded firmly.

"The world isn’t over yet. We’re still here, and as long as we keep fighting, there’s always hope."

Zara smirked, but she seed to have the sa conviction as Selene did.

"You sound like the protagonist of a cheesy hero story."

Selene rolled her eyes.

"I’m just saying what’s true. I just have a sixth sense about these things."

Zara and Ethan exchanged a glance.

They believed her—Selene had proven ti and again that she was capable, and if she thought there was a way to survive, then it was worth believing in.

However, Orion, who had been silently listening, looked less convinced. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, glancing down at his barely touched plate of food.

Selene noticed this. But as much as she wanted to tell the kid more, she knew that it was not the ti.

For now, there were more important things to do.

After breakfast, she stood up and stretched.

"I think it’s ti we start reinforcing the security around here. We need to make this place as hidden and well-protected as possible."

Ethan leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.

"Not a bad idea. But how exactly are you planning to do that?"

Selene glanced at Orion, her expression thoughtful.

"I want to work with Orion today."

Ethan imdiately frowned.

"What? Why? I want to work with you. I can help you both out as well."

Zara, catching on to the irritation in Ethan’s voice, smirked and nudged his side.

"Oh? You jealous or sothing?"

Ethan scowled. "That’s not—"

Selene cut in before he could continue.

"I have a plan to help Orion develop his abilities. It’s important. His ability will allow us to make this place more secure against monsters and other humans."

Ethan looked displeased but didn’t argue further. Zara, sensing that Selene wanted so space to train Orion, grabbed Ethan’s wrist and started dragging him away.

"Alright, co on, you big baby. We’re heading to a dungeon. Didn’t you complain about not being able to go to one yesterday? You should take this chance to unwind for now."

Zara said with a grin. This was her revenge for yesterday and she was imnsely enjoying herself at the mont.

"What? Who said I wanted to—"

"Too bad. We need to level up too. I want to collage a higher dungeon and I need you along for that."

Zara interrupted, pulling him toward the exit. Ethan struggled a little bit more before he gave in.

Selene watched them leave before turning her attention to Orion, who fidgeted slightly under her gaze.

"So. Show

what you can do."

She said, giving him an encouraging look.

Orion hesitated before taking a deep breath. He raised his hands, and a faint shimr of energy surrounded him as he ford a small, translucent barrier around himself.

Selene activated Insight, her vision sharpening as she analyzed his ability.

Based on his current state, he was only capable of creating personal shields. However, at level C, he would be strong enough to cover their entire base with a protective barrier.

That ant his priority right now had to be leveling up.

"You need to raise your level. Once you reach level C, you’ll be able to create a barrier around our entire ho. That will make this place a lot safer."

Selene told him.

Orion swallowed nervously.

"...I don’t know if I can get that strong."

Selene softened her voice.

"I’m not pressuring you. You can take your ti."

Orion looked down, his hands clenched into fists.

"...No, I want to get stronger. I don’t want to keep hiding. I’ll do whatever it takes."

He said quietly. Then he raised his head, his expression determined.

Selene felt relief wash over her at his words.

She nodded.

"Good. Then we’ll find a dungeon suited for you to train in."

Orion tilted his head.

"Do dungeons like that even exist?"

Selene smiled slightly.

"They do. There are all kinds of dungeons in this world—I just need to find the right one for you."

Orion watched her for a mont before nodding slowly.

"Alright. I’ll trust you on that."

Selene pulled out her tablet and started scanning through available dungeons. She had no doubt that she’d find sothing suitable soon.

Orion still had a long way to go, but this was the first step. And she wasn’t going to let him walk this path alone like she had during her first life.
