Chapter 241: Ch 241: Back to the right place- Part 3

With Heera firmly in control of her company, Selene finally felt a sense of relief.

One more thing was off her list. The weight that had been pressing down on her shoulders lightened—if only slightly.

She and Ethan stayed by Heera’s side for a while, helping her settle into her new role as CEO.

Selene quickly noticed that Heera’s surroundings were less than ideal.

The people closest to Heera, the ones advising her, had a certain... air about them.

Their smiles were too fake. Their loyalty too thin.

"Heera, you need to get new people. Trustworthy ones."

Selene said quietly, pulling her aside after the eting.

Heera frowned, her eyes flickering with unease.

"I know. But it’s hard to find good people I can trust."

She admitted.

"Do it as soon as you can. These vultures will tear you apart the mont they sense weakness."

Selene urged.

Heera gave a small, tired nod.

"I will. I’ll figure it out."

Selene’s lips pressed together. She felt bad leaving Heera surrounded by such questionable people, but there wasn’t much more she could do.

Ethan, standing nearby, sensed her hesitation.

"We’ve done all we can. It’s ti to go back."

He murmured, his voice low.

Selene sighed, her heart heavy.

"You’re right."

As they left Heera’s office and walked away from the company, Selene couldn’t shake the lingering unease.

But unknown to Selene and Ethan, the mont they left, Heera’s deanor shifted.

Her earlier hesitation disappeared, replaced by cold calculation.

She picked up her phone and dialed her secretary.

"Get

Alexander Grave. Now."

Heera ordered, her tone clipped and decisive.

Her secretary didn’t question it.

The #1 awakener would be receiving a new task soon.

Selene and Ethan finally made their way back, the weight of the day hanging over them.

They walked in comfortable silence for a while, but Selene’s mind was still buzzing. She glanced at Ethan out of the corner of her eye, curiosity gnawing at her.

"You never answered."

She said suddenly, breaking the silence.

Ethan looked at her, puzzled.

"Answered what?"

"My question. What’s your type?"

Selene reminded him with a small smirk.

Ethan blinked, then gave her a lopsided grin.

"Oh... that."

"Yes, that. Don’t think I forgot."

Selene’s eyes narrowed playfully.

Ethan pretended to think, his lips twitching as if he was enjoying dragging this out.

"Hmm..."

"Co on. Everyone has a type. Don’t be shy."

Selene prodded.

"I’m not shy. I just... don’t have a type."

Ethan replied, still teasing.

"Liar. You definitely have one."

Selene raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms.

Ethan chuckled, shaking his head.

"I’m serious. I don’t."

Selene wasn’t buying it.

"Fine. If you won’t tell , then I’ll go first."

Ethan’s smile faded slightly as he turned to her, his curiosity piqued.

"Alright. What’s your type then?"

Selene hesitated, her confidence suddenly wavering. She hadn’t expected him to flip the question back on her.

"I..."

Her voice trailed off. She could feel Ethan’s eyes on her, waiting patiently but intently.

’Just say sothing simple and vague, she told herself.’

But her mouth had other plans.

"Maybe... soone kind. Soone who’s saved my life."

She murmured softly.

The mont the words left her lips, Selene realized how loaded that statent was.

Her heart pounded in her chest, her cheeks warming.

Ethan’s eyes widened slightly. His usual cocky deanor disappeared, replaced by sothing more serious.

"Soone who saved your life?"

He echoed, his voice quieter now.

Selene’s pulse quickened. She didn’t dare et his gaze.

"Does that an..."

Ethan’s voice trailed off, but the question lingered between them.

Selene finally looked up, her eyes eting his.

"Do I count?"

He asked softly, his expression unreadable.

Her heart skipped a beat.

’Why does he have to ask that?’

"Do you want to?"

Selene whispered, barely able to get the words out.

For a mont, neither of them spoke. The air was thick with tension, the unspoken emotions between them swirling like a storm.

Ethan opened his mouth, his jaw tightening as he seed to gather the courage to speak.

But before he could say anything—

Sothing moved.

A shadow—silent and swift—erged from the darkness.

Selene didn’t have ti to react.

A cold, claw-like hand shot out from the shadows, grabbing her and pulling her into the darkness.

"Selene!"

Ethan’s shout echoed, but he was a second too late.

Selene was gone.

Panic slamd into Ethan like a freight train.

"SELENE!"

His voice echoed through the empty street as he lunged toward the spot where she had disappeared. His heart pounded in his ears, adrenaline flooding his system.

But the shadows had swallowed her whole.

"Damn it!"

Ethan hissed, his fists clenching as he scanned the area.

’Where did she go?’

He couldn’t feel her presence. Whatever had taken Selene was masking her energy.

’Think. Think.’

Ethan’s mind raced. The attack had been too quick, too precise.

’This wasn’t random.’

Soone had been waiting. Watching.

And they had taken Selene.

Ethan’s jaw clenched, his expression hardening.

"Co on..."

He muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing as he tried to pick up any trace of where she had been taken.

But there was nothing.

A cold chill ran down his spine.

’Selene... where are you?’

Darkness.

Selene’s vision was blurry as she felt herself being dragged through the shadows.

Her body was sluggish, her senses dulled.

’What... happened?’

The grip on her arms was firm, unyielding.

’Who...’

"Welco, Selene."

A voice echoed through the darkness. It was smooth, almost... amused.

Selene’s blood turned cold.

"Who..."

She whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You don’t need to know who I am. Not yet."

The voice purred.

Selene struggled, trying to free herself, but the hold on her tightened.

"Relax. We’re just getting started.""

The voice murmured.

Selene’s eyes narrowed.

’Not without a fight.’

Despite the heaviness in her limbs, Selene gritted her teeth and focused.

’I’m not going down that easily.’

But before she could act, the darkness swallowed her whole once more.

And this ti, there was no trace left behind.
