Chapter 164: Ch 164: Shift in Current - Part 1
Jason gritted his teeth, his body trembling as he forced himself to move. His wrist throbbed painfully, but his rage overpowered his pain.
He lunged for Selene one last ti, his free hand stretching toward her ankle in a desperate attempt to pull her back—
But Selene had had enough.
With a sharp exhale, she lifted her foot and brought it down hard onto Jason’s outstretched hand.
Jason let out a strangled scream, his entire body jerking in pain.
Before he could even recover, Selene crouched slightly, grabbed his head, and delivered a sharp knock to the back of his neck.
Jason’s eyes rolled back, and his body went limp.
Silence.
Selene sighed, shaking out her hand.
"That was annoying."
She stared down at Jason’s unconscious form, debating whether she should tie him up or just leave him there.
Selene purposely ignored the tent that Jason supported in his pants after he was knocked out.
"Ugh, what a ss. I feel like I got to know sothing I was not supposed to. Is there a way I can wipe my mory clean?"
Selene wanted to forget what happened and pretend she never noticed what she did.
But no—she couldn’t just let this slide.
There had to be so system in place for reporting troublemakers like him, right?
With that thought, she turned on her heel and went to find the person in charge.

The so-called person in charge was exactly where she expected him to be—lounging around, doing absolutely nothing.
Selene had seen this man before. When she first arrived, he had bent over backward trying to be polite to her, eager to seem competent.
’Didn’t he tell
that he will work hard to ensure everything is in place and nothing would happen? Yeah! What a lie.’
The man had likely worked hard...the first few days to give Selene a good impression of his character.
But now?
Now, he didn’t even glance her way.
He was slumped in his seat, looking bored, and when she stopped in front of him, he made no effort to acknowledge her.
Selene’s eye twitched.
Just because she was posing as an unknown person did not give this man the right to disregard her.
She took a deep breath, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"Excuse . I need to file a complaint. One of the awakeners—Jason—harassed , and I want to report him."
She said, keeping her voice steady.
The man barely reacted.
Instead, he shrugged lazily, waving a hand dismissively.
"That’s your fault."
He said.
Selene blinked.
"...What?"
"You should be grateful. An awakener showed interest in you. That’s not sothing that happens often."
he said, still not looking at her.
Selene felt her stomach drop.
For a mont, she thought maybe—maybe—he was joking.
But when she looked at him closely, she realized—
He was completely serious.
And he wasn’t the only one.
The other in-charges in the room were nodding in agreent, as if this was just common sense.
Selene’s fingers curled into a fist.
So that was how it was.
The people in charge weren’t just incompetent.
They were actively enabling this kind of behavior.
She took a slow, calming breath.
Fine.
If they wouldn’t do their jobs, then she would just handle things her own way.
She turned to leave, already planning how to deal with this behind the scenes—
But before she could take a step, the door swung open.
A familiar voice broke the tense silence.
"My, my! Why does it feel so stiff in here?"
Zara said, stepping inside.
The mont Zara entered, the entire room changed.
The in-charges, who had been lounging lazily just monts ago, snapped to attention.
Their faces paled, their postures straightened, and so even broke out into nervous sweats.
Selene glanced at Zara, who casually winked at her.
A silent ssage: I’m here to help.
Zara turned her gaze to the n in the room, her lips curling into a sweet but dangerous smile.
"So, why is she here?"
She said lightly.
She didn’t call Selene by na, but the warning in her voice was clear.
The in-charges imdiately started fumbling over their words.
"W-We were just handling things—"
"There’s no issue, really—"
"We’re making sure everything runs smoothly—"
Zara humd, her gaze sharp.
"Is that so?"
She turned to Selene.
"And? Are they handling things properly?"
Selene didn’t hesitate.
"No. I tried to report an incident, and they refused to take my statent."
She said flatly.
The in-charges visibly tensed.
So tried to cut her off, but it was too late.
Zara’s expression darkened.
Her playful aura was gone, replaced by sothing colder.
She took a step forward, and the in-charges flinched.
For a mont, she just looked at them.
And then, in a low, calm voice, she said—
"I left you alone because I thought you were competent. Because I thought you were just lazy, not actively making things worse."
The in-charges stayed silent, their faces growing increasingly pale.
"But now? I see I was wrong."
Zara continued, tilting her head.
The air grew heavy.
"I suppose I’ll have to take proper asures."
Selene glanced at the n and saw terror on their faces.
She almost felt bad for them.
Almost.
Then she rembered how they had dismissed her, how they had brushed off her complaint like it didn’t matter.
And suddenly, she didn’t feel bad at all.
With a small smirk, she turned away and left.
The last thing she saw before the door closed behind her—
—was the absolute horror on their faces as they stared at Zara.
Selene let out a content sigh.
She had a feeling Zara would handle things just fine.
By the ti she got back to work, her mood had completely changed.
She was smiling to herself, feeling lighter than before.
The other volunteers noticed.
People stole glances at her, so even whispering among themselves.
Selene could feel their curiosity.
They wanted to ask.
But no one was close enough to her to actually do it.
And Selene?
She was just fine with that.
