Chapter 155: Ch 155: Catching so Rats- Part 3

The sibling pair went quiet after what was being said. The younger sister sat in her chair, her face red and ready for denial.

Uryul crossed her arms tightly over her chest, her fingers gripping her sleeves.

"I didn’t get tricked, and I didn’t say much, either! Why do you always just assu the worst when it cos to ?"

She insisted, her voice quieter than before. Her anger and frustration was clear on her face along with her betrayal. Her brother just sighed as he looked at his sister with a pitiful expression on his face.

Kylde groaned, dragging a hand down his face.

"Oh, co on, Uryul! There’s no point in staying silent anymore. You already spilled the beans."

Uryul winced, sha creeping up her neck. She quickly looked away, unable to et anyone’s gaze. She wanted to refuse her brother’s claims, but sohow, it did not feel like she would be able to.

Selene observed the two with an unreadable expression, but Ethan let out an amused huff.

"Well, at least you’re honest with each other."

He muttered.

Kylde, clearly exhausted both physically and ntally, exhaled heavily before looking at them again.

"Alright, fine. Let’s make a deal."

He said, rolling his shoulders.

Selene raised an eyebrow.

"A deal?"

Kylde nodded, his expression serious.

"I’ll tell you everything I know. Every single detail. But in exchange, you let my sister and

go."

Ethan’s expression looked amused and dark at the sa ti. He was calculating how to spin this in his favor, and so far, he seed to be getting a lot of ideas.

"And what makes you think we’d accept a deal like that? There is no need for

to show you any rcy, is there?"

Ethan spoke in an amused voice and it made Klyde back down a little. It seed as if Klyde wanted to say more, but could not being himself t at the sa ti,

"It depends. What kind of information do you have?"

Selene said before Ethan could argue further. Unlike Ethan, she was more inclined to resolve this case by talking.

She tilted her head, studying Kylde.

Kylde hesitated for a mont. His body tensed as if debating whether to speak or not, but after a few seconds, he sighed in defeat.

"Fine, I’ll tell you everything."

He muttered.

The room grew silent as everyone leaned in to listen.

"My sister and I...we used to be ordinary humans. We had nothing. No powers, no special abilities—nothing that could help us survive in a world like this."

Kylde began.

Selene nodded slightly, encouraging him to continue.

"Then, one day, soone approached us. They promised us power—imnse power. The kind of power that could change our entire lives."

Kylde continued.

Zara folded her arms.

"And in return?"

Kylde swallowed hard.

"In return, we had to delay the construction of this place. And... we were supposed to harm Miss Shadow."

His voice wavered slightly.

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Ethan tensed, his fingers curling into fists. Orion stiffened, while Zara’s eyes narrowed sharply.

Selene, however, remained unfazed.

"I see."

She murmured, as if she had expected this outco.

Zara, on the other hand, was less composed.

"You were ordered to attack Selene?!"

Kylde flinched at the sudden intensity of her voice.

"We weren’t supposed to kill her or anything! Just... injure her. Create enough chaos to slow things down here."

He quickly clarified.

Selene’s expression didn’t change, but Ethan stepped forward.

"And who gave the order?"

Kylde froze.

His fingers twitched as his expression turned uneasy.

"I... I don’t know."

He admitted.

Ethan’s glare sharpened.

"Don’t lie."

"I’m not lying! I never saw them. Never spoke to them directly. We just followed orders that were passed down to us."

Kylde snapped.

Selene remained still, processing his words.

"And why did you agree to it?"

Orion asked, his tone unreadable.

Kylde sighed, his shoulders slumping.

"Because it was easy. And because they gave us food, shelter, and everything else we needed to survive. We were starving, and they offered us everything we didn’t have."

His words hung heavy in the air.

Ethan cracked his knuckles.

"Maybe punching you will help bring your mory back."

Kylde paled, instinctively leaning back.

"Ethan! That won’t be necessary."

Selene said, finally speaking again.

Ethan looked at her, frowning.

"We need more information."

"I have another idea."

Selene said calmly.

Everyone turned toward her.

"If they wanted to harm , why don’t we use that to our advantage?"

She continued.

Zara’s eyes widened.

"Selene, don’t—"

Selene pressed on.

"If I act as bait, we might be able to lure them out."

The room erupted in imdiate protest.

"Absolutely not!"

Ethan snapped.

"Not happening."

Orion added.

"Selene, are you insane?!"

Zara nearly shouted.

Selene frowned.

"I’m not a child. I can handle myself."

Ethan turned to Zara.

"Keep an eye on her. Make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid."

Selene’s irritation flared.

"You’re all being unreasonable!"

Her words, however, were completely ignored.

Kylde, still bound, watched the scene unfold with mild disbelief.

After a long pause, he shifted uncomfortably.

"So... does this an the information I gave you was good enough?"

Ethan shot him a look.

"We’ll see."

Kylde let out an annoyed groan.

"Co on! I told you everything I know!"

Selene considered him for a mont before sighing.

"You and your sister can go."

She finally said.

Ethan’s gaze snapped toward her.

"Selene—"

"But only after we have a contract signed."

She added firmly.

Ethan exhaled sharply but didn’t argue further.

Minutes later, a binding contract was drawn up, preventing Kylde and Uryul from ever interfering with Selene or her work again.

Once it was signed, the siblings were finally freed.

As they prepared to leave, Uryul turned back toward Selene.

"Miss Shadow."

She said softly.

Selene glanced at her.

Uryul hesitated for a mont before finally speaking.

"Be careful. You have a target on your back."

With that, the siblings disappeared into the night, leaving Selene and her companions in silence.
