Chapter 68: The Joy After the Upgrade

"Right," Adam rumbled, the new, deeper timbre of his voice still strange to his own ears. He gently nudged Alice, who was still luxuriating in the warmth of his feathered wing. "My turn is done. Now it’s yours. All of you. You must have gotten more than enough points from that fight."

Ignis practically vibrated on the spot, her scales clinking. ??Yes! I’m so ready! I can feel it buzzing in my core!?? She bounded a few steps away, sending up small puffs of ash. ??Watch , Boss! I’m gonna be even bigger and shinier!??

??Try not to set the whole cavern on fire this ti,?? Alice comnted dryly, though her ntal tone was fond. She gave Adam’s wing one last, lingering nuzzle before padding to a clear spot herself, her form already beginning to waver with void energy. ??This power... it feels dense. I will see you on the other side, Adam.??

Lilith offered a graceful bow of her cephalothorax. ??I owe you this opportunity, Adam. I shall not waste it.?? She retreated to a sheltered nook beneath a rocky overhang, pale silk already beginning to cocoon her for the transformation.

With his companions beginning their ascensions, Adam turned to the true prize. He lood over the colossal, cooling corpse of Ophiarachna, the Devourer-Queen. His massive jaws unhinged, and he began to feed.

It was a grueso, prolonged process, but with every swallow, he felt power flooding into him. As he consud the venom-sac and associated glands, a new understanding flooded his system.

[ Skill Fragnt Acquired: Venom Resistance - 1.0/1.0 - COMPLETE ]

[ Passive Skill Generated: Supre Venom Immunity. You are now immune to all natural and magical venoms, poisons, and toxins.]

’A perfect counter to her own weapon,’ Adam mused. ’Useful.’

As he continued, consuming the core muscle groups and the strange, hardened organ that had fired those devastating psychic webs, another fragnt coalesced.

[ Skill Fragnt Acquired: Psionic Focus Beam - 0.7/1.0 ]

[ Incomplete. Ability to fire a concentrated beam of ntal force, causing severe psychic trauma and physical pushback. High Mana Cost.]

A projectile beam... Adam felt a thrill. This was a true ranged option, far more direct and powerful than Ember Shard Shot.

Finally, as the last of the substantial biomass was consud, he felt his physical form resonate with new density.

He felt stronger, even more enduring. The al had been phenonally rewarding. "One complete skills and a powerful fragnt," he muttered to himself. "The beam is excellent... but that cost. I’d be drained after a few shots. It needs to be a finishing move."

With his companions still cocooned in their evolution, Adam turned his attention inward. The Legendary Evolution had boosted all his existing skills by three levels, making them incredibly potent. He only has 3 Skill Points left, maybe he’ll check the shop. Perhaps there was sothing to complent his new arsenal, or sothing to address his lack of hands.

He focused, and the System Shop interface appeared before his mind’s eye. He browsed through categories:

- Utility Skills (Manipulation, Crafting)

- Elental Affinities

- Physical Enhancent

He scanned for anything related to telekinesis, polymorphing, or limb generation. Nothing appeared under his available tier or with his remaining point. The truly transformative skills were either locked behind requirents he didn’t et or cost an astronomical amount of Points.

’Nothing,’ he thought.

’Everything here is either a minor upgrade to what I already have, or a lateral move. A stronger bite, a tougher scale pattern... I don’t need incrental improvents right now. I need a paradigm shift. And that,’ he looked at his feathered wings and serpentine body, ’seems to be on a different evolutionary track altogether.’

He dismissed the shop.

’Better to save the points. For the next evolution, or for an ergency. Celestial Calculus should help

improve what I have faster anyway. No need to waste resources on distractions.’

The soft, silver cocoon of Lilith’s evolution shimred, then cracked with a sound like breaking crystal. From within erged not just a larger spider, but a vision of elegant lethality.

Her body was now the size of a small horse, her carapace a polished, obsidian black shot through with veins of deep, pulsating violet. Her eight legs were longer, sharper, and moved with a silent, predatory grace that made her previous form seem clumsy.

The most striking change was the aura around her—a palpable, chilling pressure that seed to drink the light and hope from the imdiate vicinity. It wasn’t just fear, it was a whisper of oblivion.

[ Companion Evolution Complete: Lilith has evolved from Pale Widow Queen to Umbral Weave Matriarch.]

??Fufu...?? Her psychic voice was smoother, darker, and carried an even more pronounced undercurrent of subtle sadism.

"How do you feel, Lilith?" Adam asked, his galactic eyes observing her closely.

??Exquisite, Adam. Truly, phenonally exquisite,?? she replied, stretching her new limbs with a series of soft, clicking sounds. ??The power... I believe I could have soloed the Big Mother now. A pity she is already deceased. It would have been... instructive.??

Adam felt a ntal shiver that had nothing to do with temperature. ’She gets more terrifying by the minute.’

Lilith turned her elegant cephalothorax towards him, her multiple pale eyes gleaming. ??But I must thank you. For ending her. For freeing , and for providing the catalyst for this... perfection.??

"It was a joint effort," Adam stated. "We couldn’t have done it without your intel and your skills. And I had my own reasons for wanting her dead."

??Of course you did. Which only makes our partnership more... destined, does it not??? she purred psychically. Then, with that unnerving, silent speed, she skittered forward, closing the distance between them in a blink. Before Adam could react, she dipped her head and drove her sharp, new fangs into the thick scales of his shoulder.

"AGH! Lilith! What are you doing?!" Adam jolted, more from surprise and violation than severe pain, his scales were too tough for a casual bite to do real damage, but it hurt.

She retracted her fangs just as quickly, a faint, dark ichor—his blood—glistening on their tips for a mont before she delicately cleaned it. ??Mm. I was rely... curious. And perhaps a bit playful.??

"Playful? What does that even an?" Adam rumbled, thoroughly bewildered and Confused.

??Fufufu... Think of it as... a mark.?? Her psychic tone was infuriatingly light.

’A mark? What is this, a hickey? You’ve got to be kidding ,’ Adam thought, incredulous. Before he could voice his protest aloud, the second evolution sphere erupted.

The sphere of solar energy containing Ignis blazed like a miniature sun before imploding with a soft whoomp. Standing where the sphere had been was a creature of fla and grandeur. She had nearly doubled in size, her body longer and more powerfully built. True draconic horns, curved and proud, swept back from her skull. Her wings were broader, stronger, and shimred with heat haze. Her scales glowed with an internal, joyful fire, and her eyes sparkled with even more untad enthusiasm.

[ Companion Evolution Complete: Ignis has evolved from Young Solar Drake to Blazeheart Drake.]

??WOOOOOAH! BOSS! LOOK AT !?? Ignis’s telepathic shout was a blast of pure, exuberant sunshine. She beat her new wings once, lifting off the ground with powerful gusts of hot air, then imdiately dive-bombed towards Adam in her excitent.

"Wait, Ignis, don’t—" Adam began, but it was too late.

THUD.

The newly evolved, considerably heavier drake crashed into his side in a tangle of limbs, wings, and happy, fiery nuzzling. ??I’m so strong! And big! And my fire feels like it could lt the world! Wanna see? Wanna see?!??

Grunting from the impact, Adam managed to extricate himself slightly, using a wing to gently but firmly push her enthusiastic snout away from his face. "I believe you! I believe you! Just... Calm down, okay?"
