Chapter 160: Where Hope Remained

He moved through the room, his system quietly feeding him information on each item he passed. A sword here—cursed, low quality. A ring there—minor enchantnt, not worth the space. His fingers brushed over weapons, armor, trinkets, dismissing most without a second glance.

Then he stopped.

A bracelet lay on a small wooden pedestal—delicate silver links set with a single pale blue gem that seed to shimr with inner light. Adam picked it up, and his system responded imdiately.

[Barrier-Touch Bracelet (Rare)]

[Contains a single-use barrier spell that can be activated at will. Creates a protective do capable of withstanding multiple high-tier attacks for up to 30 seconds. Cooldown: 24 hours.]

Adam’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "This... this is perfect for Lilith." He glanced back at her, taking in her elegant but fragile form. "She’s devastating at range, but up close, she’s vulnerable. This’ll give her an ergency defense."

He turned, holding out the bracelet. "Here. For you."

Lilith’s crimson eyes widened slightly—genuine surprise flickering across her usually composed features. She took the bracelet carefully, turning it over in her pale fingers.

"For ?" Her voice was softer than usual, carrying a note of sothing almost like... wonder.

Adam shrugged, already turning back to the shelves. "You need it more than I do. I’ve got scales. You’ve got..." He gestured vaguely at her slender form. "Silk and psychic powers. Not exactly lee defense."

Lilith slipped the bracelet onto her wrist, the silver catching the torchlight. A small, genuine smile curved her lips—not her usual predatory expression, but sothing warr. Almost shy.

"Thank you, Adam." She touched the gem gently. "I’ll treasure it."

Adam grunted in acknowledgnt, already scanning the next shelf. His eyes landed on a small crystalline shard, glowing with faint prismatic light. He picked it up, and his system flickered to life.

[Prismatic Core (Legendary - Fragnt)]

[The crystallized core of a Prismatic Turle, a rare monster that hunted using concentrated light attacks. Contains residual energy patterns of precision laser magic.

Adam’s eyebrows rose. "A Prismatic core... this could help complete my laser skill fragnt." He tucked it carefully into his Pouch.

’I’ve been aning to develop a ranged piercing option that isn’t fire-based. This might be exactly what I need.’

He continued searching, his mind already cataloging potential uses for each item. Then he paused, a thought striking him.

’Wait. I never asked Elise for the wind core from the Sovereign. I need to rember to get that from her later. Could be useful for sothing.’

His hand brushed against several more items before stopping on a long pendant. Silver chain, dark gem that seed to absorb light rather than reflect it. The mont his fingers touched it, he felt a strange resonance—a faint pull, like recognition.

[Void-Touch Pendant (Rare)]

[Contains a stabilized fragnt of void energy. Enhances void-based abilities and grants minor resistance to void corruption. Bonded to the wearer’s soul.]

Adam’s eyes widened slightly. "This... this is perfect for Alice. For when she wakes up." His expression softened—just for a mont, a flicker of sothing vulnerable beneath the predator’s mask. He carefully tucked the pendant into the Pouch of the Hoarding Gno.

Silvie, who had been watching Adam’s search with open curiosity, tilted her head as he pocketed the pendant. "Alice? Is that soone important to you?"

Adam glanced at her, then nodded once. "She’s... family. She’s hurt right now. I’m trying to find a way to heal her."

Silvie’s expression softened with understanding. "I hope you find what you’re looking for." She hesitated, then added, "If there’s any knowledge from my clan that could help... I’d be honored to share it. As repaynt."

Before Adam could respond, a familiar ntal voice suddenly erupted in his mind—louder than before, with a distinct note of irritation.

’ADAM! What do you an "a few minutes"?! It’s been WAY longer than a few minutes! I can SLL boredom on myself now! I’m coming in there to DRAG you out if you don’t—’

’Ignis, calm down,’ Adam projected back, a hint of amusent coloring his thoughts. ’We’re almost done. Found so good stuff. I’ll be out soon.’

’FINE! But if you’re not out in five minutes, I’m burning sothing!’

Adam snorted, shaking his head. "Ignis is getting impatient. We need to wrap this up."

He grabbed a handful of gold coins—enough to cover expenses for a while—and turned to leave. But Silvie’s voice stopped him.

"Wait. Savior." She held out a small bundle wrapped in cloth. "I almost forgot. This was in a separate chest, locked and warded. The bandits seed to think it was sothing special. I think you should have it."

Adam took the bundle, unwrapping it carefully. Inside lay a crystal vial filled with swirling silver liquid that seed to glow with its own inner light.

[Starlight Essence (Legendary - Consumable)]

[A rare distillate created from distilled moonlight and purified celestial mana. When consud, permanently enhances spiritual perception and fortifies the soul’s resistance to corruption and possession. Single use.]

Adam’s breath caught. ’This... this could help protect Alice. Shield her soul while she’s vulnerable.’

He looked at Silvie, genuine gratitude flickering in his crimson eyes. "Thank you. This... this might be exactly what I need."

Silvie’s cheeks flushed again, and she quickly looked away. "I-It’s nothing. Just repaying the debt."

Adam tucked the Starlight Essence carefully into his Pouch beside the pendant. His voice, when he spoke, was quieter than usual. "You didn’t owe

anything. But this... this ans a lot."

Silvie’s flush deepened. She opened her mouth to respond—

A thunderous CRASH echoed from outside, followed by a familiar, fiery roar.

"ADAM! FIVE MINUTES IS UP! I’M COMING IN!"

Adam sighed, a wry smile tugging at his lips. "And that’s our cue."

Lilith, who had been observing the entire exchange with sharp, silent attention, glided to Adam’s side. Her hand found his, fingers intertwining with practiced ease.

"Shall we, Adam?" Her voice was serene, but there was a subtle possessiveness in the gesture—a silent claim staked in front of the blushing elf.

Adam nodded, allowing himself to be led toward the entrance. He glanced back at Silvie. "I will wait outside."

Silvie bowed her head. "Okay, I’ll catch up with you soon, Savior."

As they erged into the sunlight, Ignis stood waiting—hands on hips, foot tapping, expression caught sowhere between furious and relieved. Behind her, the bandit camp lay in ruins, bodies scattered like broken toys.

"ABOUT TI!" Ignis stomped toward them, then stopped, noticing their expressions. Her anger faded, replaced by curiosity. "Did you find good stuff?"

Adam nodded, a genuine smile crossing his features. "Yeah. We did."

Lilith’s serene expression cracked slightly as she turned to Ignis, her crimson eyes narrowing with an intensity that made the fiery drake take an involuntary step back.

"Ignis." Lilith’s voice was soft—too soft. The kind of soft that preceded extre violence. "You do realize you could have connected your telepathy to

as well, correct? Instead, you chose to have a private conversation with Adam."

Ignis blinked, genuine confusion crossing her features. "Huh? But it’s easier that way. Less complicated. Why are you making a big deal out of sothing so small?" She tilted her head, oblivious to the danger. "Are you... mad about sothing?"

Lilith’s smile widened—that particular smile that made even Adam’s instincts twitch. Without another word, her hands shot forward, fingers finding Ignis’s cheeks and pinching with surgical precision.

"Mmph?! H-Hey!" Ignis’s words ca out garbled as Lilith stretched her skin in opposite directions. "Whar are you—Mmph—doing?!"

"Just a small lesson," Lilith purred, still pinching.

"I’M SORRY! I’M SORRY!" Ignis’s muffled apology ca through pinched cheeks, her eyes watering slightly. "Pleathe sthop!"

Adam watched the scene unfold with the weary expression of soone who had long ago accepted that his companions were absolutely insane. He let out a long, slow sigh, running a hand through his hair.

’Lilith’s emotions are getting more and more unstable,’ he thought, observing the way her fingers finally released Ignis’s now-reddened cheeks. ’Is she stressed about sothing? Or is this just... her? Maybe I should check on her later.’

Ignis stumbled back, rubbing her abused face with a pout. "That was an! I said sorry!"

Lilith’s smile returned to its usual serene curve. "Don’t repeat it again, okay?"

Before Ignis could retort, Adam felt a familiar sensation—the Crown stirring, its hunger montarily sated but still present. A cascade of notifications scrolled through his vision.

[ 4 Souls Acquired]

[ 3 Souls Acquired]

[ 2 Souls Acquired]

[ 5 Souls Acquired]

[ 1 Soul Acquired]

[ 3 Souls Acquired]

[Total Souls Captured: 274 -> 292]

Adam blinked at the unexpected influx. "The Crown is still collecting souls from the bandits we killed. Must be picking up fragnts that were lingering." He glanced at the carnage around them—dozens of bodies scattered across the camp. "Makes sense. There were a lot of them."

Ignis, still rubbing her cheeks, perked up. "Ooh! More souls? Does that make you stronger?"

"Indirectly," Adam replied. "The Crown uses them for... things. Still figuring out exactly what." He touched the invisible weight on his brow. "But more is probably better."

Lilith’s gaze flickered to the Crown’s unseen presence, then back to Adam. "Just be careful. Artifacts that consu souls have a tendency to consu the wielder eventually."

Adam t her eyes, his expression steady. "I know. But right now, it’s a tool. And I’m not planning on letting it beco anything more."

The mont held—a rare instance of genuine concern from Lilith, acknowledged and accepted by Adam.

Then Ignis bounced forward, her earlier pout forgotten. "So! What did you guys find in there? Any cool weapons? Shiny things? Stuff I can set on fire?"

Adam’s lips quirked. "A few things. We’ll sort through it all when we get back to the cart." He glanced toward the prison caves, where the freed elves were beginning to erge, carrying supplies and supporting their wounded. "Looks like they’re getting organized. Good."

Silvie erged from the crowd, her bow now slung across her back, her expression resolute despite her exhaustion. She approached Adam and his group, stopping a respectful distance away.

"Savior. We’re preparing to leave. The human prisoners are being given supplies and directions to the nearest town." She hesitated, then added, "I... I wanted to thank you again."

Adam nodded. "Take care of yourselves. The road north should be safer now that the bandits are gone, but don’t let your guard down."

Silvie’s eyes lingered on him for a mont longer than necessary. "I won’t. And Savior?" A small, genuine smile crossed her features. "I hope you find what you’re looking for."

Before Adam could respond, Lilith’s hand found his again, fingers intertwining with pointed possessiveness. Her smile was pleasant, but her crimson eyes held a clear ssage for the elf.

"We should go, Adam. The others are waiting."

Silvie’s smile faltered slightly, but she recovered quickly, bowing her head. "Of course. Safe travels."

As they turned to leave, Ignis bounced alongside them, oblivious to the silent tension. "So! What’s for dinner? I’m starving! Fighting makes

hungry!"

Adam allowed himself to be pulled along, a faint smile tugging at his lips despite everything. "We’ll figure it out when we get back to the cart."

Behind them, Silvie watched until their figures disappeared among the ruins of the bandit camp. Then she turned to her people, her expression hardening with renewed purpose.

"Let’s move. We have a long road ahead."
