My fingers hovered above the void blade.
My knuckles whitened. Sweat dripped from my jaw.
The Queen looked up at , her lips trembling—not from fear, but understanding. Her eyes—once fierce, now gentle—t mine.
And she smiled.
"It’s okay," she mouthed silently. "Choose what the Realm needs."
Behind her, the Shadow Heir snarled, chains of cursed steel biting into his limbs. Blood dripped from his wrists, but his eyes were blazing—furious and unrepentant.
"You’re too soft to rule," he spat. "Do it. Kill if you think you can."
I gripped the blade. It pulsed in my palm, sensing my doubt.
My hand trembled.
Because in that mont—I didn’t want to choose either of them.
I wanted to save them both.
But kings don’t get what they want.
They get what they can bear.
And I realized—this wasn’t a test of strength.It was a test of heart.
I could kill my enemy.I could save my Queen.
But deep down, I knew what the Realm needed.
Not a ruler who could swing a sword.
But a ruler who could bleed for others.
The Queen... had always protected .It was my turn.
Even if it ant losing her.Even if it ant rembering her every day and knowing... I let her go.
The world faded again—colors washing out like old ink in the rain.
Only the blade remained—glowing with silent expectation.
The Primordial Shadows lood above, still and watching.
And then—
I knelt before her.
Placed the blade in front of the Queen’s fading form.
And turned it on myself.
The void split. My own shadow scread.
It felt like tearing the sun from the sky inside my chest.
But I kept going—until I felt the bond shift.
Until the Crown rebalanced.
Until I had traded the one thing no king had ever offered:
My own mories.
The Queen gasped—alive again, fully whole, but her eyes wide in confusion.
"Liam...?" she whispered.
But I blinked.
And didn’t recognize her.
Behind us, the Primordial Shadows bowed for the first ti.
"A king who chooses loss... shall inherit the realm."
And then the shadows shattered—
Leaving behind a crown.
Floating silently...Waiting for soone who no longer rembered why he ever wanted it.
