Chapter 92: Chapter 2 The Future

The base is humankind’s outpost amidst the ruins, enveloped by an energy shield.

Surrounding the vast city, nurous bases of varying sizes exist, teeming with millions of Desert Hunters.

These Desert Hunters rely on the ruins for survival.

Bases connect the ruins and the city, offering both communication signals and routes to the city.

Traders buy the monsters killed by the Desert Hunters directly from the base and transport them into the city.

The base also serves a purpose of communal warmth; if one encounters a powerful monster attack, safety is guaranteed if they make it back to the base.

It acts as a transitional role from the city to the ruins.

The base is not small, similar to a small town, devoid of tall buildings.

Upon entering the base, Xu Mo saw vehicles coming and going.

Most were Desert Hunters like Qin Fu.

So returned laden with spoils, while others bore injuries on their bodies.

There were even those who dragged back corpses.

Although Desert Hunters are relatively cautious, choosing their hunting grounds based on their capabilities,

they wouldn’t venture too far out from the base, yet sotis accidents happen.

“Qin Fu, why did you bring back a few kids?” A vehicle drove past Qin Fu, and a sharp-faced man in Battle Armor on board called out; he was blind in one eye, stood on a slain monster’s body, and wore a curved blade slung on his waist.

“None of your business,” Qin Fu muttered begrudgingly.

The One-eyed Dragon didn’t care and looked at Ye Qingdie with a hint of greed, saying, “Won’t you introduce us?”

“Get lost,” Qin Fu cursed; the One-eyed Dragon was not a good sort.

The One-eyed Dragon glanced at Qin Fu, his eyes carrying a chilly air as the vehicle sped away from them.

“Desert Hunters live on the edge, and they all have so unsavory habits, you need to be careful,” Qin Fu warned Xu Mo and the others.

Xu Mo nodded; the ntal state of those who had long been killing in the city ruins was different from normal people.

“Doesn’t anyone take care of it?” Xu Mo inquired.

Qin Fu had grown accustod to Xu Mo’s ignorance.

“There are laws in the city, but once you leave, unless you have a special status, no one cares. The base is relatively better. Within the ruins, it’s common for looting to occur. Sotis, humans can be more dangerous than monsters when traversing the ruins,” Qin Fu explained.

Xu Mo nodded, gaining a basic understanding of this world.

“How do I get to the city if I want to go?” Xu Mo asked again.

“I’m beginning to doubt whether you all co from another planet,” Qin Fu said, looking at Xu Mo: “The base has vehicles heading to the city, but do you have identity cards?”

As he spoke, he revealed an odd expression himself.

No, they really don’t have them, do they?

Xu Mo cooperatively shook his head.

“What is that?” Xiao Qi also asked curiously.

Qin Fu rolled his eyes and pulled out a thin tallic card from his person, handing it to Xu Mo.

Xu Mo took it and looked at the card, as a series of dotted lines projected from it, like a projector, and a stream of information directly appeared before his eyes.

Na, photo, age, occupation, place of origin, everything clearly marked.

Xu Mo imdiately understood what it was: an ‘identity card.’

Just more advanced.

After Xu Mo finished looking, Ye Qingdie and Xiao Qi also took turns, curious about the small card.

After they were done, Qin Fu took back the identity card and said to Xu Mo: “What you saw are basic information, each card has a unique number. On Byron Star, transactions and Federation currency withdrawals all go through it. Without an identity card, you’re an undocunted resident, you can’t enter the city, and even if you do, you can’t do anything.”

An all-in-one card.

It seems the functions of bank cards and so smartphone features have also been replaced by the identity card, quite convenient.

As for the phone and communication devices, Qin Fu carried a device that looked sowhat like a watch.

Noticing Xu Mo’s gaze, Qin Fu touched it, and imdiately the device reacted, projecting an image in front of him.

“This is a Communicator,” Qin Fu indicated to Xu Mo: “But there are no signals in the ruins, only in the base.”

Xu Mo nodded.

The Underworld and the above, two completely different worlds.

After coming up, one can truly feel how strict the company’s control over the Underworld is, completely suppressing it to a primitive standard of living.

“If one loses their identity card, can they not enter the city?” Xu Mo inquired.

“They can. Your card number allows your information to be retrieved, and you can enter the city to reissue it. Do you have one?” Qin Fu replied.

“…” Xu Mo was at a loss for words.

They were thoroughly undocunted residents.

Seeing this, Qin Fu gave Xu Mo and the others a aningful glance and said, “If you’re undocunted and want to enter the city, there’s only one way, unless you find a special passage that doesn’t require an ID check.”

“What’s the way?” Xu Mo questioned.

“Find soone with a certain status to take you in,” Qin Fu replied.

“…” Xu Mo felt a headache coming on.

Where could he et soone with status in the city?

First, Qin Fu and the others sold the monsters and then bought wine and groceries in the base’s store before returning to their dwelling.

Desert Hunters often didn’t have fixed abodes, so Qin Fu and his group lived in a portable ho they had built themselves, like a giant tent.

This wasn’t unique to them alone; many Desert Hunters did the sa.

Each tent ho was spaced apart from the others by a certain distance.

“I’m back,” Qin Fu’s wife awaited them at the entrance.

“Hmm,” Qin Fu nodded as he jumped out of the vehicle.

“Mom,” the others called out.

“We have guests today, make so side dishes for the drinks,” Qin Fu directed.
