Chapter 88: Chapter 83: The Cycle of History (Seven Updates for Monthly Votes)

The Councilman’s ho wasn’t in the central area of the city-state but rather in a comparatively secluded location.

Before this, Yimu was not at the center of power in the Underworld; on the contrary, he was a marginal figure.

Because of an accident a year ago, it led to an uprising in the city-state and shook the Council.

Only then did Yimu have the opportunity to take the position of the Councilman.

The vehicle entered the estate, and the driver got out of the car to open the door for Yimu.

His driver was dressed in silver Battle Armor and wore a helt, obscuring his face.

Not far away, the sound of music drifted over, and the two of them walked toward it, appearing very calm.

“Dad, brother, you’re back,” Irina stood up and called out.

“Mr. Yi,” a woman next to her also called out.

“Hmm,” Yimu nodded his head, the mansion was empty and very quiet, not a single guard in sight.

The Councilman’s ho, surprisingly, had no security asures.

As if he had withdrawn them.

“Hmm,” Yimu nodded again, and speaking to Irina said, “Pack up briefly, ready to leave with your brother.”

Yin Linna was stunned.

Were they leaving?

So, what exactly was happening outside?

“Alright,” Irina nodded and began to prepare to leave the place.

But just then, a harsh friction sound ca from outside.

After that, footsteps followed.

They looked outside and saw a huge Humanoid cha step by step approaching the interior of the estate.

Yimu watched the cha, squinting his eyes.

They arrived quickly.

He actually really cleaned up everything, killing his way here.

A real surprise, indeed.

Xu Mo entered the estate with a surging killing intent.

But when he saw the scene in the yard, his pace suddenly slowed down.

The yard was very quiet.

He saw Irina— the Councilman’s daughter he had t before in the church, was this the address they once gave him?

He not only saw Irina but also Bai Wei and Yaoer.

The two curiously watched his piloted cha; Yaoer seed a bit scared, hiding behind Bai Wei.

Seeing such a scene, Xu Mo montarily felt a sense of unreality.

But he knew that this must be the truth.

If everything was orchestrated by the Councilman, then all the doubts could naturally be resolved.

However, why would he want to destroy himself?

Having already been at the center of power in the Underworld, who else beneath the companies above could compare with him?

For justice?

He didn’t quite believe it.

The War Saber hovered in midair, but Xu Mo did not kill.

Yaoer was watching there.

Irina’s complexion changed, her gaze continuously on Xu Mo.

What exactly had happened?

She knew what her father was trying to do, but she didn’t know the entirety of the plan.

This cha, who was it?

Had the City State Guard turned traitor?

So, did that an the plan succeeded?

The figure beside Yimu, clad in Battle Armor, walked toward Xu Mo and took off his helt to reveal a handso face.

Yi Kai, the son of Yimu.

“Can we talk?” Yi Kai stood in front of the cha, removing his helt as if to show his sincerity.

“Step back,” Yimu rebuked sharply.

Yi Kai looked back at his father to see Yimu advancing forward with a serious look, saying to him, “Take your sister and go inside.”

Yi Kai struggled with his gaze.

“Did you not hear what I said?” Yimu’s tone was particularly stern.

“Yes,” Yi Kai reluctantly walked back, leading Irina along with Bai Wei and Yaoer away from there.

The vast estate was left with only Yimu and Xu Mo remaining.

“So, Qin Zhong is your man, from a year ago all of this was your doing?” a voice emanated from inside the cha.

Yimu nodded his head.

“What for?” Xu Mo asked.

If it was for power, he had already achieved that a year ago.

“This dark world needs soone to pierce through it,” Yimu said to Xu Mo.

“So, it’s for the change of the Underworld?” Xu Mo looked at Yimu, his voice sowhat sarcastic, “The massacre of the people, leveling the black market, those conscientious idealists all buried; today at the Arena, how many people died under your conspiracy, and you are telling it is because of your conscience?”

Of course, he wouldn’t believe it.

“The masses of the Underworld have long been desensitized, you have seen it yourself. A year ago, even after the Valen incident beca public, they continued to be apathetic, they rioted for a while and then stopped,” Yimu stared at Xu Mo and said, “Today, in the Arena, why did those people raise their swords to you?”

“They didn’t know the truth?”

“Without bloodshed, without completely shattering their illusions, how can there be hope.”

His words seed persuasive.

Enough to make one want to believe him.

But Xu Mo did not believe him.

This was an extrely paranoid madman.

How could he possibly believe that such a fanatic, claiming to be for the light, for conscience, was genuine?

This conspiracy, who knows how many had been manipulated and how many had paid with their lives?

“`

Unless Yimu had a split personality.

So, why did Yimu want to deceive him?

“You’d better give a reason not to kill your children,” Xu Mo said.

Yimu’s death was inevitable.

He himself also knew that Xu Mo would not let him go.

Batu, Mia, Elsa—all were involved in his conspiracy; how could Xu Mo possibly not kill him?

Not to ntion Xu Mo didn’t believe his words, even if he really was trying to save the world, Xu Mo would kill him just the sa.

Yimu looked up at the cha and suddenly laughed, saying, “What kind of monster are you really?”

This ti, the plan had not taken Xu Mo into account, even though in the past Xu Mo had unintentionally helped him a lot.

And this ti, his arrival made the plan even more thorough.

One could say, Xu Mo had inadvertently played a role in escalating the situation, even a decisive one.

He had killed all those people, which saved a lot of trouble.

“Yi Kai and Irina, you can take your sister and Mia to the world above,” Yimu said.

He knew that Xu Mo would not easily believe him and continued, “Irina brought Mia and the others here. If it weren’t for her, Mia and the others would have been taken away by the lab last ti, becoming experints. No matter what I have done, my life will pay the debt, but there are many things Yin Linna doesn’t know. She always thought her father was saving the world.”

“So, what’s your purpose?” Xu Mo asked.

Yimu suddenly laughed, his laugh tinged with sarcasm.

What was it all for?

“In the eyes of the people in the Underworld, Counciln are untouchable, prominent figures from the world above. But what about in the world above?” Yimu asked.

“Many years ago, I was sent down here by my family. Within the corporate system, the Underworld is nothing but a pen. The people who co here are all marginalized, including myself. The real direct descendants are above, receiving the best upbringing.”

“As for , once I ca, it was for many years. I fell in love with a woman from the Underworld. Do you understand what that ans?” Yimu asked, as if questioning himself.

“It ans contempt, disdain. No one wanted to recognize her identity, and even my children beca implicated.” Yimu’s face began to contort with a fla of hatred: “I could bear it myself, but when it involved Yi Kai and Irina, I couldn’t endure it.”

He looked at Xu Mo and continued, “The events a year ago were struggle; I took this position. Today’s events are the sa, struggle; and as for what to fight for, it’s undoubtedly the distribution of benefits. I will die here, but Yi Kai and Irina, they will get better resources.”

“So, nothing will change for the Underworld, right?” Xu Mo said.

“What do you think?” Yimu suddenly laughed.

Change?

With what will it change?

Xu Mo suddenly felt a chill down his spine.

“Everyone who has seen Mia and the others is dead; the Council mbers were killed by you, and the rest will die at the hands of angry civilians. No one will know the identities of Mia and the others.” Yimu addressed Xu Mo, “Irina will take them up; Mia will receive music training, and your sister will get the best education.”

Xu Mo didn’t speak; the offer sounded tempting indeed, but why should he trust the other party?

“After my death, you will be the only outsider who knows the full truth. If you tell the people sent by the company after , what will be the consequences for Yi Kai and Yin Linna?” Yimu knew Xu Mo didn’t trust him.

Irina and the others would go up, Xu Mo would stay below, balancing each other.

After this turmoil, Xu Mo was bound to be hunted and wanted by the company.

The terms Yimu offered were hard not to be tempted by.

“Yi Kai.” Yimu turned around and called into the room; Yi Kai ca back in.

“From today onwards, Mia and the others are your family; you need to treat them just like you treat Irina,” Yimu instructed Yi Kai.

“`

Yi Kai looked at his father.

“For the plan to succeed, Xu Mo’s contributions are imnse. If there’s a chance in the future, take Xu Mo up there. You can beco friends,” Yimu said, “Do you hear ?”

“Yes, Father,” Yi Kai replied, his eyes filled with pain, knowing his father couldn’t possibly survive.

Yimu smiled, with no regrets left.

He truly hoped Xu Mo could make it up there.

And hoped Yi Kai could beco friends with him.

Xu Mo, he’s at least an A-level integrator!

“Bang.” A gunshot rang out, and Yimu pulled the trigger.

Irina and the others ran out, rushing to Yimu’s body, while Yaoer cried out, “Grandpa Yi…”

Outside, several figures were running towards them.

It was Ye Qingdie and Mia and the others.

Mia stepped forward. Seeing Yimu’s body, she couldn’t define her feelings.

She realized Yimu was the one who planned all this.

“Xu Mo, Ms. Irina doesn’t know,” Mia said to the cha, shaking her head. She had rushed here, worried that Xu Mo would kill Irina.

“Is it big brother?” Yaoer looked at the cha.

Xu Mo extended the cha’s hand and gently placed it on little Yaoer’s head.

“There’s no ti left, get in the car,” said Yi Kai, his eyes becoming determined.

He helped Irina to her feet, not attending to Yimu’s body. He asked Xu Mo, “Have you decided?”

“Miss Mia, would you like to go up there with Ms. Irina?” Xu Mo asked Mia, “I will find a way to join you.”

“Okay,” Mia replied, glancing at the teary-eyed Yaoer and nodding. She was still young and needed soone to look after her. They couldn’t all follow Xu Mo on the run.

This was clear to both her and Xu Mo.

Moreover, Elsa couldn’t possibly escape. Xu Mo had to look after her.

“Take care of yourself,” said Xu Mo. He didn’t have a choice, nor was he clear about his own future.

Mia nodded, picked up Yaoer, and followed Yi Kai into the vehicle.

The vehicle started and left the area.

Xu Mo watched the vanishing vehicle then walked forward, severed Yimu’s head, and walked outside, with Ye Qingdie and the others following him.

From a distance, thunderous shouts were approaching; the people were storming towards the place.

They saw Xu Mo holding Yimu’s head and let out a thunderous roar.

Xu Mo watched the crowd crazily entering the estate, looking at each face turning from numb to frenzied, unsure of what to feel.

Is it over?

Of course not.

Will there be light in the Underworld?

Will history repeat itself once more?
