"It’s all stuff from when I was a kid, I’ve forgotten about it." Zhengzheng put the items she chose on the cashier counter, where there happened to be a Transforrs toy, seemingly new inventory that hadn’t been put on display yet—the clerk was checking the list to price it.

"If you like it, buy it." Nan Zhan reached for the Transforrs and tossed it into the shopping basket.

Zhengzheng said, "My sister doesn’t permit to accept things from others; you should put it back."

In the end, she’s still a child. Despite saying that, her eyes lingered yearningly on the Transforrs.

"I’m buying it for myself to play with; can she control that?" Nan Zhan thought to himself, I’m not just anybody, I’m your...

"Big brother, although my sister’s IQ isn’t as high as ours, she’s not an idiot either. Your excuse is too..."

Jian Si, who was cooking, sneezed twice. Touching her reddened ear, she murmured, "Sobody must be speaking ill of , just don’t let hear it."

"We’re back." Like a little bird, Zhengzheng burst in, "We’ve bought everything."

Nan Zhan, who followed, closed the door behind him, placing the shopping bags on the dining room table. The roaring noise of the range hood filled the air, and the petite woman standing before the stove was brandishing a spatula, with the delicious aroma of the dishes filling the entire room.

This hoy atmosphere brought a cozy serenity to the place, and the nicely colored dishes were tantalizing.

"Pass that dish, thank you." An extended plate abruptly snapped Nan Zhan out of his daze. He looked discontentedly at the woman who wasn’t even looking at him, her commanding tone annoyed him, but he still reached out to take the plate.

His fridge was well-stocked, filled by the hourly maid that ca to clean the place. He couldn’t cook, and having groceries was pointless for him, but he liked to stuff his fridge full—it made him feel secure.

"Hand the chopsticks, thank you." Three pairs of chopsticks were handed out, which seriously tested the resilience of attorney Nan. He pursed his lips, forcefully suppressing the dissatisfaction within him.

Jian Si wasn’t trying to boss him around on purpose, it was just out of convenience. The shoes in the kitchen were slip-resistant, and she had to change to another pair of cotton slippers to step out. She was too lazy to swap shoes, so she asked for his help nonchalantly, unaware that the attorney’s face was turning sour.

Nan Zhan narrowed his eyes: This woman takes mile after being given an inch. Does she even realize whose ho this is...

"Fetch the bowls, thank you." Three bowls were once again placed in Nan Zhan’s hands; her commands had beco natural.

Just as Nan Zhan was about to get annoyed, Jian Si took off her apron, smiling as she said, "Ti to eat."

Those simple three words acted like an eraser, rubbing away the ire that was brewing inside the man ready to explode.

It seed a very long ti since any woman was willing to cook soup or stew for him. His mother, that aloof woman, had never personally cooked for him since he could rember—not even a simple breakfast. He grew up eating Aunt Xian’s cooking, and his feelings for Aunt Xian seed to have surpassed those for his so-called mother.

"Sister, tomorrow’s a classmate’s birthday, and the teacher asked each of us to bake so cookies." While eating, Zhengzheng kept her head down shoveling rice until she finally found a mont to speak up.

There was plenty of food at Nan Zhan’s house, including his favorite fish and shrimp.

"I’ll go make them in a while," Jian Si said as she peeled the shrimp for him, suddenly realizing that she had only seen an oven in the kitchen, unsure if there were ingredients to bake cookies.

"At this hour, the supermarket won’t be closed." Compared to Zhengzheng’s hurried eating, Nan Zhan’s dining manner was much more refined and elegant.

The two of them sat in a row, bowing their heads over their als, both Zhengzheng’s and Nan Zhan’s heads bore two spiral hair whorls, nearly identical in size and placent.

Jian Si watched the big and the small with a complicated expression, managing to taste bitterness even in a mouthful of rice.

After eating, Jian Si washed the dishes, and when she ca out of the kitchen, she saw Nan Zhan and Zhengzheng already dressed and waiting for her at the porch.

Were they going to buy the ingredients for the cookies?

"Why not just pick a few packs of cookies at random?" In the supermarket, Nan Zhan gestured with his chin toward the shelf in front of them, clearly thinking her ti-consuming effort to make them by hand was foolish.

Jian Si ignored him and headed straight for the baking section, squatting down to start choosing flour.

"Handmade ones can be instantly distinguished from store-bought kinds with added flavors and preservatives—I don’t want Zhengzheng to be the odd one out." Jian Si picked out flour and powdered sugar, then went to buy butter.
