The teacher snapped back to reality and looked at him seriously: "Jian Zheng, you’re saying you know who stole the snacks?"

"Mhm." Zhengzheng nodded, "But it’s very timid, it wouldn’t dare to co out when there are many people around."

"Of course a thief would be timid." Tong Da retorted unwillingly, while sticking out his tongue at Li Yunfei.

"Teacher, I have a way to lure the thief out." Zhengzheng walked up to Tong Da, extending his little hand: "Tong Da, lend your sandwich to use."

"I haven’t even had the heart to eat it yet." Tong Da was obviously reluctant.

"Then do you still want to catch the thief?"

Clearly, Zhengzheng’s words were sowhat intimidating to Tong Da, so after hesitating for a minute, Tong Da still donated his sandwich, but not before taking a big bite. Tong Da was already chubby, and with this bite, only a third of the sandwich was left.

"Now, may I trouble everyone to wait in the hallway?" Zhengzheng walked up to the teacher, "The thief will show itself soon."

The teacher always liked Zhengzheng very much because he was smarter than the other kids. It wouldn’t be an overstatent to call him a genius. He represented the senior class of the kindergarten in a Rubik’s Cube competition, won first place in Aus City, and also broke the world record for being the youngest to solve a Rubik’s Cube the fastest.

The teacher ushered all the students out of the class, and they obediently stood against the hallway wall.

After everyone had left, Zhengzheng went to the back window, opened it a crack, and then placed the sandwich on Tong Da’s desk. After doing all that, he also closed the door and joined the others in the hallway.

Ti ticked away second by second, everyone waiting quietly and curiously in a low murmur.

About fifteen minutes later, just as Tong Da was starting to grumble impatiently, "Where’s the thief?" soone whispered, "Sothing’s co in."

"Shh." Zhengzheng quickly made a shushing gesture to everyone, and they all instinctively crouched down.

A black figure was seen at the window, cautiously looking around, and upon seeing no one, leapt down from the sill, then headed straight for Tong Da’s desk. Soon, it had taken the sandwich from the desk into its mouth and then quickly jumped back onto the windowsill.

"Thief." As soon as Tong Da saw the sandwich being taken away, he couldn’t keep his cool, kicked the door open and rushed in. The creature got scared, loosened its mouth, and the sandwich fell to the floor while it disappeared into the bushes outside the window.

Tong Da went over to pick up the sandwich, sighing with pity: "Ah, it’s been bitten by a cat, can’t eat it now."

"So the thief was a little cat," everyone seed to breathe a sigh of relief.

The teacher also ca over, relieved, patting Zhengzheng on the shoulder: "Zhengzheng, how did you know?"

Zhengzheng walked up to the window, pointing to the shallow footprints on the windowsill: "I noticed these marks a few days ago, they were the size of so animal’s paws, so I searched the bushes outside and found so fresh feces and food scraps."

Tong Da, considering whether to break off the part of the sandwich that the cat bit and eat the rest, promptly threw it in the trash can upon hearing the word "feces".

"Tong Da said his snacks were stolen, so I checked his seat and found so scratch marks on the plastic bag that wrapped the food. If a person had taken the contents, they would have opened the plastic bag directly, rather than destroying it. Moreover, the tis Tong Da ntioned his snacks went missing were always during break ti, when everyone was playing gas on the playground," Zhengzheng glanced at Li Yunfei, curling the corner of his mouth, "Li Yunfei likes to play so much, how could he waste such precious ti."

Li Yunfei, hearing that, imdiately flashed his two fang-like teeth.

The teacher, after listening to Zhengzheng, couldn’t help but feel an increased affection for the boy. He was so young, yet his mory, observation, and deductive reasoning abilities were all very sharp. With the right nurturing, he was sure to achieve great things in the future.

"Then why didn’t you say anything earlier?" Tong Da snorted, "So my snacks were eaten by a cat."

Zhengzheng leaned on the windowsill looking out, smiling, "Because the cat is pregnant. It’s stealing food for its kittens, so I didn’t want it to be caught. But now, I have no choice. If I don’t speak up, Li Yunfei will be wronged."

With that, Zhengzheng’s head drooped sowhat disheartened.

The classroom fell silent for a mont, then Tong Da suddenly raised his chubby little hand and proposed: "How about this, I’ll ask my mom to prepare a double portion of snacks tomorrow. I’ll eat one, and the other will be for the mama cat."
