Seeing the man standing at the doorway, Luo ijuan was montarily stunned, only to see a man of supre handsoness, with well-defined and chiseled features, and a strikingly handso face that seed more fitting for the big screen or within the pages of a magazine, rather than in reality.
After a few seconds of surprise, she warmly greeted him: "Co in and sit down, co in. My dear, who is this?"
"This is my university teacher, his na is..."
"Nice to et you, Auntie. Just call Luo," Luo Shangqing said, offering his hand with a polite and humble smile on his lips.
"Professor Luo, ah." Luo ijuan quickly shook his hand, "Hello, hello, please co in."
"I work in the sa hospital as Director Mu," Luo Shangqing initiated the explanation, "Although we are not in the sa departnt, we run into each other frequently."
Luo ijuan clapped her thigh, "Now I rember, our family’s Director Mu has ntioned you before, young and promising, the youngest professor in the hospital, and moreover, our girl ntioned that you took great care of her in school, a teacher of both talent and virtue."
Luo Shangqing glanced at Mu Chenxi. Mu Chenxi chuckled awkwardly; when had she ever used such nauseatingly sycophantic terms, but her mother really had a way with words.
"Luo, have you had dinner? We are about to eat, why don’t you join us?" Luo ijuan invited enthusiastically.
"Then I’ll impose."
"It’s no trouble at all, just a simple al, you’re welco as long as you don’t mind," Luo ijuan said, pulling at Mu Chenxi, "Darling, go make a cup of tea for your teacher. Luo, sit down in the living room; dinner will be ready soon."
"Thank you," Luo Shangqing nodded.
He was already quite familiar with the place and comfortably took a seat in the living room on his own initiative.
Mu Chenxi brewed so good tea and placed the teapot and cups on the coffee table, "Professor Luo, please have so tea."
"Hmm." Luo Shangqing took the cup, "Where is your father? Isn’t he coming back for dinner?"
"He has to work overti tonight and rarely cos ho for als. I call him the ’little dragon’ because he always keeps a low profile, appearing and disappearing unpredictably," Mu Chenxi explained, placing the remote control beside him, "You can change the channel to whatever you want to watch."
"I’ll go wash my hands first." Luo Shangqing set down his tea cup and went to the washroom, passing by Mu Chenxi’s room, he glanced inside unconsciously and caught sight of the calligraphy hanging above the bed. It looked familiar, and upon closer inspection, he realized it was his own handiwork, the four characters "Study Hard", casually penned as a form of encouragent for her at the ti. He didn’t expect that she would cherish it to the extent of having it frad and hung above her bed.
"Professor Luo, aren’t you going to the washroom?" Mu Chenxi suddenly popped her head out and asked.
Luo Shangqing then withdrew his gaze, "Right away."
Since a guest had arrived, Luo ijuan added two more dishes, making the al quite lavish with six dishes and one soup.
"Luo, do you drink alcohol?" Luo ijuan asked.
"Professor Luo doesn’t drink or smoke," Mu Chenxi promptly replied instead.
Luo Shangqing looked at her; indeed, he didn’t smoke, at least never at school, and he only occasionally shared a smoke while playing cards with Shaoqing and the others, but never inhaled deeply. As for alcohol, he always abstained. He was surprised that this girl knew his habits so well.
"Then you should drink more soup; the chicken and bamboo shoot soup I’ve made today is very nourishing," Luo ijuan said as she enthusiastically served Luo Shangqing so hot soup, while taking the opportunity to express her concerns for her daughter, "Luo, my little Chenxi has lost so much weight this month. Could the quality of the food at your school have dropped?"
Mu Chenxi held her forehead; she was obviously stressed from studying, and now the school cafeteria was being wrongly blad.
"Don’t worry, Auntie, I will bring this up with the school on Monday," Luo Shangqing said, accepting the bowl of soup with both hands, "Thank you."
Luo Shangqing didn’t talk much during the al; Luo ijuan did most of the talking, while he listened attentively and showed great humility and politeness.
As the al was coming to an end, a rumbling noise ca from outside, followed shortly by a flash of lightning across the living room window.
"It’s going to rain," Luo ijuan hurried to close the windows. Before she could reach the windows, a downpour suddenly started.
By the ti she had closed the windows, she was drenched.
"Luo, with this heavy rain, just sit here and watch TV until it eases up a bit before you leave."
"Then I’ll trouble you, Auntie," Luo Shangqing was actually not at all reserved, truly settling into the living room after dinner.
The rain outside continued to pour down relentlessly, showing no sign of stopping.
"Professor Luo, I have so questions to ask you." Mu Chenxi planned to make the most of this opportunity to seek so insights, as she would need to continue her incomplete experint next week.
She was about to retrieve her backpack when Luo ijuan said, "Chenxi, why don’t you and Luo go to your room instead? The TV series here is concluding today; let’s not disturb you two with solving problems."
"Okay," Mu Chenxi glanced at Luo Shangqing, seeking his opinion.
Luo Shangqing nodded briskly: "Sure."
Mu Chenxi’s room wasn’t as ssy this ti; during the monts Luo Shangqing had gone to wash his hands, she had quickly tidied up. Everything that could be tucked away was tucked away, creating the illusion of orderliness from the outside.
Mu Chenxi moved a chair from the dining room over and gave her own seat to Luo Shangqing.
"I heard that your experint was a success?" Luo Shangqing picked up a pen, asking as if it was of casual interest.
"Yes, but there are still follow-up experints to do. It was just a small step forward," she replied.
Luo Shangqing looked at her, admiration in his eyes. He had never expected the girl who always appeared nonchalant about academic pursuits in his eyes to one day overco such a difficult challenge.
"Chenxi, where are my glasses?" Suddenly, Luo ijuan called out from outside the door.
Looking apologetic, Mu Chenxi said, "Professor Luo, please wait a mont, I’ll go find the glasses for my mom."
Luo Shangqing nodded his head, and after she left, he casually flipped through the books on the desk, pulling out a notebook and discovering—upon opening it—that it was a diary.
