If it’s Mu Shuoqian, smoothing things over for the Chen Family wouldn’t be a problem.

But what worries her is that this matter is actually related to him.

When Mu Shuoqian returned from the outside, as soon as he entered the house, he slled the fragrance of the cooked food. He couldn’t help but lift the corners of his lips. When he lived alone before, the house was so empty it almost had no signs of life; he never ca back to eat, nor could he sll the scent of ho cooking, treating it rely as a shelter from the storm.

In the kitchen, Gu Qili was wearing an apron, with cotton gloves on her hands, carefully taking down a soup pot. A waft of aty aroma struck her nose, she took a whiff and showed a satisfied smile.

As she looked up, she saw Mu Shuoqian standing at the kitchen door. Her eyes curved into a smile and she said, "You’re back?"

"Mhm." He responded indifferently, casually draping his coat over the back of a chair.

The dining table was already set with several dishes, snail stewed with old duck, grilled prawns, stir-fried chive hearts with scallion oil, seafood fried rice—all dishes that required ti and patience.

Gu Qili placed the soup in the center and arranged two small soup bowls.

After Mu Shuoqian washed his hands and returned, the soup was already served. The milky soup was dotted with a few specks of vibrant green scallions, looking appealing and slling delicious, truly tempting.

She had never cooked so many dishes before.

"What’s the special occasion today?" Mu Shuoqian sat down and gave her a suspicious glance.

Gu Qili imdiately felt guilty and narrowed her eyes, giving a heh heh laugh: "There’s no special day, just cooking casually."

He didn’t speak, instead simply picked up his chopsticks. Before he could reach for any dish, Gu Qili had already eagerly placed a skewer of grilled prawns onto his plate: "I know you like prawns the most."

The hand holding his chopsticks paused, and he frowned, fixing a steady gaze on her face.

Feeling uncomfortable under his stare, she could only peel the shrimp for him, placing the tender white at in front of him, "Let do the dirty and tiring work, don’t dirty your hands."

Mu Shuoqian didn’t touch the piece of shrimp at. Instead, he casually set his chopsticks back down, raised an eyebrow slightly, and pressed his thin lips together: "If there is sothing, just say it."

Gu Qili scratched her head, realizing she had been seen through. She really wasn’t suited for brown-nosing.

The brown-nosing hadn’t even started, and the horse had already spooked.

"Actually... I just wanted to ask, do you know about the investigation into the Chen Family?" As Gu Qili spoke, she carefully watched his expression.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t make out anything.

"Which Chen Family?"

"It’s Chen Jiehui."

Mu Shuoqian responded indifferently as if he didn’t rember this person: "What happened to the Chen Family?"

With such an unconcerned questioning tone, could it be that he wasn’t responsible for this?

"It seems that soone reported the Chen Family, Chen Jiehui is under scrutiny, and the company is in jeopardy."

Mu Shuoqian coldly raised the corners of his lips: "If I rember correctly, it seems you had a grudge with Chen Jiehui."

He had once slapped Gu Qili in the hospital, an incident he rembered clearly; how much self-control he must have had not to rush up and slap him back.

But his mory is good, he never fears forgetting a grudge that needs to be settled.

Gu Qili didn’t imdiately know how to respond, and Mu Shuoqian said with sarcasm: "Because of Chen Yishu, you can disregard it, right?"

She could disregard it, but he cared. The won belonging to Mu Shuoqian were not so ordinary that anyone could just strike them as they pleased.

She abruptly lifted her head to look at him. His face carried a mocking smile, making his features seem even more icy and unapproachable.

"So, you cooked all this food, actually just for Chen Yishu, wanting to help him, and that’s why you deliberately tried to please , right?"
