37: Chapter Thirty Seven : Two in the Courtyard 37: Chapter Thirty Seven : Two in the Courtyard Chapter Thirty Seven : Two in the Courtyard Originally, Fang Ting had planned to enjoy so hotpot alone for lunch — but now that Su Xinyan was here, they might as well eat together.

Fang Ting’s laid-back daily life included not only gardening, walking his dog, and fishing, but also a deep dedication to culinary research.

His hotpot was truly one of a kind — from the dipping sauces to the ingredients, every detail had been carefully designed.

Before everything was even ready, Su Xinyan, still in the back courtyard, caught a whiff of the aroma.

“What a unique scent.” By the Core Formation stage, most cultivators no longer needed food — they could survive on spiritual energy.

Su Xinyan only occasionally snacked on spirit fruits she grew herself or on so pastries.

It had been a long ti since she’d eaten a full al.

Yet now, with that sll in the air, she actually felt… hungry.

Being a guest at the Fang estate, she didn’t use her divine sense to investigate.

Instead, she followed the aroma.

Fang Ting spotted her.

“Oh — I was just about to call you over.” Su Xinyan smiled faintly and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear.

“What is that you’re cooking?

It slls wonderful.” Fang Ting pointed to the small stools by the table.

“It’s a hotpot.

Co sit — everything’s ready.” Su Xinyan sat down, her bright eyes blinking with curiosity as she looked over the table filled with both familiar and unfamiliar ingredients.

Fang Ting picked up a plate of sliced at and tossed it into the pot.

“This is the hind leg of a Crimsonfla Demon Goat.” He began introducing the dishes one by one: “These beef balls are made from Icevein Ox at.

They’re hollow inside, so they’re super springy.

Careful when you bite in.” “These are fish balls from Bluefin Spirit Fish — incredibly fresh.” “You’ve heard of Vermilion Fruit, right?

If you pick the fruit when it’s still peanut-sized after the flower blooms, then prepare it like tofu, you get sothing even smoother.

I call it fruit jelly.

Add so ice and juice — it’s tangy, sweet, silky — try it!” The dishes were varied and nutrient-rich, all filled with spiritual energy — perfect for cultivators.

So beast ats could even enhance physical strength or help with breakthroughs.

Su Xinyan picked up a small bowl of the fruit jelly, scooped so with a spoon, and took a bite.

“Mm!

Delicious!” Her clear eyes lit up, practically sparkling.

The small bowl was gone in no ti.

She wanted more, but Fang Ting quickly said, “No rush — that’s just the appetizer.

The real star is the hotpot.” He mixed a dipping sauce for her and fished out so Crimsonfla Goat at, placing it into her bowl.

“Try this.” After just one bite, Su Xinyan was singing its praises.

Soon, she was helping herself — no need for instructions.

She had grown up in Lingyue Sect, spending most of her life training or on missions.

How could she resist sothing like this?

In this mont, Su Xinyan was no longer the high-and-mighty fairy of the sect — just a food-loving girl enchanted by taste.

Fang Ting thought to himself: “I’ve read early webnovels where the protagonist wins the girl with just a skewer of grilled at.

That always felt lazy.

This hotpot, though?

Months of research went into perfecting this for cultivators — it’s gotta beat their barbecue!” After several rounds, Su Xinyan finally realized her behavior had slipped.

A rosy blush crept across her pale face, and she slowed her pace.

Suddenly, she rembered sothing and produced a small box with a wave of her hand.

“These are so spirit fruits I grew.

Try them.” Fang Ting accepted without fuss and began eating.

“These may not help with cultivation, but they taste great.” That said it all — Su Xinyan was a foodie at heart.

She just hadn’t been awakened yet.

As they ate and talked, ti flew.

In half an hour, they’d finished all the side dishes.

Fang Ting waved his hand, clearing the table.

He summoned a breeze to sweep away the lingering hotpot sll.

Then he brought out so desserts and poured tea to help digest.

Su Xinyan was amazed by how smooth and seamless everything was.

“Is this how you normally live?” Fang Ting shook his head.

“Today’s hotpot.

Tomorrow’s barbecue.

The next day — stir-fry.” Su Xinyan was speechless.

This is way too comfy…

I’m kind of jealous.

After finishing their tea, Su Xinyan stood.

“Thank you for the al, Clan Leader Fang.

That was a very special lunch.” She felt she wouldn’t forget it any ti soon.

And oddly enough, while she usually felt tense or awkward being alone with soone, with Fang Ting, she felt completely at ease — even relaxed.

Fang Ting waved dismissively.

“No need to thank .

It’s just proper hospitality.

And feel free to co by for als anyti.” Su Xinyan didn’t think much of this al, but coming again felt…

improper.

Yet soon after, the daily aromas wafting over beca impossible to resist.

It was like a valve had been opened.

She couldn’t close it anymore.

Every day, when the scent hit the air — she’d think: I could just drop by again… And so, Su Xinyan beca Fang Ting’s regular al companion.

Most of the Fang family didn’t even know she was there.

She stayed quietly in the back courtyard, and when she did go out, her cultivation level ensured no one sensed her presence.

— In the blink of an eye, a month had passed.

After one al, while sipping tea, Fang Ting said, “The weather’s great today.

Want to go out for a walk?” Su Xinyan instinctively wanted to refuse.

She had a deep-rooted aversion to going out.

But then she rembered why she’d left the sect — for breakthrough insight — and relented.

After tea, they left the Fang estate together.

To avoid drawing attention, they both applied a thin veil of spiritual mist over their faces.

From a distance, no one could clearly make out their features.

On the bustling streets, Su Xinyan instinctively frowned and felt the urge to turn back.

Fang Ting noticed and suggested, “There’s a place called Moonwatch Lake in the east.

Beautiful scenery.

Not many people.

How about we head there?” Su Xinyan nodded.

They quickened their pace and soon arrived at Moonwatch Lake on the city’s eastern edge.

It was indeed quiet — a few people were fishing on the banks.

Fang Ting had been here a few tis himself.

Sunlight sparkled across the calm water, with small boats occasionally drifting past — mostly carrying young couples in love.

Fang Ting rented a slightly larger boat.

He and Su Xinyan sat facing each other, gazing out the side windows at the scenery.

Su Xinyan wore a flowing green dress.

Her features were lovely, her eyes deep and serene.

A gentle breeze lifted her hair.

The lake’s surface mirrored the blue sky and white clouds.

Under Fang Ting’s steady control, the boat glided smoothly.

Su Xinyan sat quietly across from him, completely imrsed in the tranquil beauty around her.

She genuinely enjoyed this quiet atmosphere.

Their gazes occasionally t.

Slowly, a subtle new feeling began to stir between them in the small, shared space.

A breeze drifted through, fluttering her skirt — and ssing up both their hair.

It also unsettled their hearts.
