"But let be clear, Logan... I’m not doing this for him. Or for you. I’m doing this to survive."

"Sa here," he said, finally pushing off the wall.

As he reached for the door, she added, "We walk out of this like allies. But we’re not friends, Kingsley."

He smirked faintly. "Wouldn’t dream of it."

The door clicked shut behind him.

And Jean exhaled.

Not in relief.

But in preparation...

Because surviving ant knowing when to be silent... and when to strike.

The next morning, the sun rose with an edge of silence. The city was buzzing with whispers, yet Jean’s hospital room felt like a pocket of stillness... the kind that cos before a storm.

Emma walked in briskly, her phone still pressed to her ear. Her expression is unreadable.

Jean looked up. "Was it him?"

Emma nodded, lips tight. "Mr. Kim. He wants to settle... quietly. He said his team will send over the official docunts by tonight."

Jean let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. "That’s faster than expected."

"He’s scared," Emma said. "Junho’s party photos, drug use, and that secret suite of his... all leaked. His board is threatening to replace him if this continues."

Jean nodded. "Good. Let him stew in the ss he made."

Monts later, Logan entered the room, followed closely by Henry and their legal counsel. Emma stepped aside to make space as Logan offered a quick nod to Jean.

"Ready to act innocent?" he asked dryly.

Jean smirked. "I’ve been doing that all my life."

The team gathered in the corner of the room where a large whiteboard had been wheeled in by the hospital staff earlier. Their lawyers took center stage.

"We’ll play this safe," Logan’s lawyer began, adjusting his glasses. "Our official stance is simple; Mr. Kim offered a confidential settlent to avoid unnecessary damage to both parties’ reputations. We accepted... reluctantly, for the sake of professionalism."

Emma’s eyes narrowed. "But what about the leaks?"

"Not our concern anymore," Jean’s lawyer chid in. "As long as nothing ties back to us... and nothing will... we’re clean. Our nas stay off the battlefield."

Henry added with a chuckle, "You two just need to smile and shake hands. Maybe throw in a photo-op with Mr. Kim. Fake forgiveness."

Logan made a face. "I’ll need a drink after that."

Jean leaned back against her pillows. "Make it two."

Everyone laughed... nervously... but there was tension beneath it. They were skating on glass, pretending to be saints while they’d orchestrated a slow, calculated ruin behind the scenes.

And now... it was ti to polish their masks.

Emma stepped beside Jean and whispered, "You good?"

Jean nodded once. "Let them think we’ve backed down. It’ll make the fall taste even better when it’s their turn."

Outside the window, the day carried on, oblivious.

Inside, a room full of enemies turned allies were preparing to deliver the performance of their lives.

The room was too quiet for the kind of deal being made. No flashing caras. No digital trail. Just whispered agreents, scribbled signatures, and unspoken grudges.

Jean sat upright in her hospital bed, eyes locked on the tablet in her hand as she scanned the settlent terms one last ti. Across the room, Logan leaned against the wall, arms crossed, brooding like a storm barely held at bay.

No one said it aloud, but everyone in the room knew what this was... hush money, dressed in legal formality.

Henry and Emma stood nearby, lawyers on each side going through the motions.

The docunt was brief but powerful: a non-disclosure agreent, mutual liability waivers, and a sizable monetary compensation that would keep both Jean and Logan out of any official inquiry.

It was clean.

Too clean.

Jean passed the tablet back with her signature. "Done."

The lawyer nodded. "We’ll send this to Mr. Kim. Once the funds transfer, it’s over."

"Over?" Logan muttered, finally pushing off the wall. "If this is over, why does it still stink?"

Everyone fell silent.

Emma glanced at Jean, who said nothing. Her silence was an armor.

Logan walked toward the window, fists in his pockets. He wasn’t made for quiet settlents. He wanted war. He wanted Junho dragged through the dirt. But instead, here he was... signing silence.

And all because of her.

He turned slightly, just enough to catch Jean’s profile. Calm, poised. She always looked that way, even when she was hurting. Even when she was scared. And that... sohow... angered him more.

He scoffed bitterly. "You know, I would’ve burned the whole damn empire just to see Junho fall."

Emma shot him a warning glance, but Jean only looked up at him with unreadable eyes.

"But I didn’t," he added, voice lower now. "Because of you."

Jean’s jaw tightened.

Logan turned away again, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "Why is it always you?" he muttered under his breath.

There was no answer.

Because even she didn’t know.

After eventually signing the agreent, Logan barked to everyone, "Get out!"

The room had emptied slowly... Mr. Kim’s legal team with their tight smiles, the assistants gathering their briefcases, and even Emma after a silent nod from Jean.

Only two remained.

Two people who had once fought side by side on a hellish island, now standing across each other like strangers tethered by a bitter thread of silence.

Logan stood with the signed docunt in hand, his expression unreadable. He let it fall on the nearby table like a weight he’d carried too long.

"You made do sothing I would never do," he said coldly, breaking the stillness.

Jean let out a soft scoff as she shifted her legs over the edge of the bed. "Co on, Kingsley, think with your brain sotis and not with your new-found muscles for once."

She stood, fixing the hem of her hospital gown, her voice tired yet biting. "You n and your uncontrollable egos..."

His steps cut her off.

Dangerously slow.

Deliberate.

Jean’s breath hitched when her back t the cold hospital wall. Logan didn’t touch her... but the proximity caged her in tighter than any arms could.

"I don’t deal in dirty money, Jean," he growled. "What I have, I built. With my own hands. My own pain. It was clean..."

His voice dropped to a ragged whisper.

"...until now."

Jean swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry. His gaze was burning and unrelenting.

What is he doing?
