Jared turned, his gaze softening as it fell on his son. Logan was still on his knees, hands trembling against the cold earth, his lips moving soundlessly as if in prayer.
Jared knelt beside him, his firm hand gripping Logan’s shoulder. "She’s not gone, son. Do you hear ? We’ll find her. I won’t accept anything less."
Martha sobbed quietly behind them, Hannah clutched her arm, both staring out into the dark ocean with tears in their eyes.
But Logan’s heart was deafened by the crashing waves. All he could see was Jean’s smile, all he could feel was the emptiness where her warmth should have been.
Still, Jared’s words cut through his despair like a lifeline. And for the first ti since he saw her car abandoned by the roadside, Logan lifted his head, eyes blazing with both fear and desperate determination.

Jean’s eyes fluttered open, heavy as if weighed down by lead. A sharp sting pulsed at the back of her head, forcing her to wince. She tried to move, but her limbs felt sluggish, her body sinking into an unfamiliar mattress.
Her heart skipped.
This wasn’t her bed.
The ceiling above was painted a dull beige, cracks running along the plaster. The air slled faintly of damp wood and sothing tallic... blood?
No... disinfectant.
Panic shot through her veins as she jerked upright, clutching at the sheets. The room was dim, a single bulb flickering overhead, throwing shadows across the peeling wallpaper.
A locked door stood in the corner and beside it, a small table with a glass of water. Her clothes were the sa as earlier but her shoes were missing.
Where am I?
Her breath ca faster, trembling, her throat beca dry. She scanned the room again, desperately looking for a window. There was one... covered by heavy curtains. She stumbled toward it, yanking them open.
Bars.
A choked gasp left her lips. The window was barred shut, sealing her inside like a prisoner.
Her pulse hamred in her ears. She backed away, pressing her hand over her mouth to stop a scream from escaping. Fear coiled in her chest, icy and suffocating.
The door creaked.
Jean froze.
Slow, deliberate footsteps echoed outside, approaching towards the door.
Then ca his dreadful voice...
"Jean."
Her eyes widened, blood draining from her face. The knob turned, and her heart nearly stopped.
She staggered back, whispering, "What are you doing here...?"
The last person she ever wanted to see stepped inside, his tall fra filling the doorway. His smile was calm... too calm, as though he had been waiting for this mont all along.
"Tyler..." Her voice broke, her throat constricting. "What are you doing here?"
His lips curled into a smirk, eyes gleaming with a darkness she rembered all too well. "You have no idea how long I’ve waited to hear you say my na again."
Her stomach lurched. mories she had buried clawed their way back, raw and suffocating. The pain, the fear, the helplessness... every scar he’d left on her soul ca alive in an instant.
"You..." Her voice shook as she stumbled another step back. "You kidnapped ."
Tyler closed the door behind him with a soft click, the sound like a death sentence. He moved toward her slowly, deliberately, as if savoring her fear.
"Kidnapped?" he chuckled, tilting his head. "No, Jean. I’m saving you. From him. From them. From a world that doesn’t deserve you."
Her hands trembled, curling into fists at her sides. "You’re insane."
"And you’re mine," Tyler whispered, his voice dropping into sothing possessive, chilling.
Jean’s chest tightened, a scream caught in her throat. She wanted to fight, to claw her way out, but the walls pressed in, suffocating her.
The nightmare she thought she’d escaped... had found her again.
Jean’s heart hamred against her ribs as she staggered back, her voice breaking.
"Why? Haven’t you done enough? You’ve already ruined everything in my life. What else do you want from ?"
Tyler’s gaze softened... not with remorse, but with a deranged tenderness that made her blood run cold. "I told you before, Jean. I only ever wanted you. Everything I did... it was for you. I love you."
He reached out, fingertips brushing against her cheek. Jean flinched, swatting his hand away with all the strength she had left. "Don’t touch !"
His jaw clenched. For a second, his mask cracked. Then, without warning, he seized her wrist and yanked her forward, slamming her against the wall. The impact stole her breath, his body caging her in completely.
"You don’t understand," he hissed, his face so close she could feel the heat of his breath. "I won’t let anyone else have you. Not Logan. Not anyone."
Jean struggled against his iron grip, fury mixing with terror. "You’re insane! This isn’t love... this is obsession!"
Tyler’s lips curved into a sickening smile. "Call it whatever you want. I’ll take you far away from here... out of this country, to a place where no one knows you. No one can find you. And then..." His eyes darkened, glinting with madness. "We’ll be married. You’ll finally be mine, and we’ll live happily ever after. Just you and ."
Jean’s stomach lurched, bile rising in her throat. The walls around her seed to close in tighter, suffocating her with every word.
Her eyes widened in horror as Tyler slipped sothing out from his pocket. A small syringe glinted under the dim light, the clear liquid inside shimring like a death sentence.
Her blood ran cold. "What... what is that?" she whispered, dread lacing her voice.
Tyler smirked, tilting the syringe in his hand. "Just sothing to make our journey easier. We’re boarding a flight tonight, Jean. I can’t afford you fighting every step of the way... so you’ll sleep until we reach paradise."
"No...!" Jean’s scream ripped through the air as panic took over. She thrashed wildly, kicking at his shins, clawing at his arms, punching him with every ounce of strength she had left. But it was like striking against a wall. Tyler absorbed it all, his grin never fading.
"Still so stubborn," he chuckled darkly, seizing her by the jaw. In one swift, brutal move, he forced the needle against the delicate vein just beneath her ear.
Pain shot through her neck as the sharp sting sank in, the drug spilling into her bloodstream. "No! Stop..." Jean’s voice cracked, her body convulsing against him. She tried to pull away, but her limbs grew heavy, the room tilting in dizzy swirls.
Her vision blurred, shadows creeping at the edges until they swallowed the light. Terror clawed at her chest, but with the last flicker of consciousness, one na slipped past her lips... fragile, desperate, aching.
"...Logan."
The world dissolved into blackness.

Logan sat hunched at the edge of his bed, his hair disheveled, his eyes hollow. The silence of the room pressed heavily on him, broken only by the faint ticking of the clock. His hands curled into fists, nails digging into his palms.
A strange unease clawed at his chest, an ache he couldn’t na. As if so part of him had been ripped away.
Jean...
The sound of the door creaking open snapped him out of his trance.
"Logan?"
His mother’s gentle voice filled the room. She stepped in, balancing a tray of food in her hands. The warm aroma drifted in... soup, fresh bread, sothing comforting. Her eyes softened as they fell on him, and for a mont, she looked less like the poised Martha Kingsley the world knew and more like a mother worried for her son.
"I thought you might be hungry," she said softly, placing the tray on the bedside table. Her gaze lingered on him. "You haven’t eaten all day."
Logan didn’t answer right away. His throat felt tight, his heart pounding with the inexplicable weight of dread. He dragged a hand through his hair and muttered, almost to himself...
"I think she left ..."
Logan’s voice cracked as he finally spoke, his eyes fixed on the floor. "I think... she’s gone. Maybe she... maybe she ended it herself. Because of ."
Martha froze, her heart skipping a beat. "Logan..."
"I wasn’t there when she needed the most," he whispered hoarsely, his chest heaving. "I swore to protect her, to stand by her. And what did I do? Nothing! I couldn’t even hold her together when she was breaking apart."
His voice rose, laced with agony as his composure shattered. He clutched his head in both hands, shaking violently. "She must have thought she was all alone... that she had no one. And it’s my fault. All of it. I drove her into this."
"Logan, stop..." Martha rushed to his side, dropping onto the bed beside him. She reached for his trembling hands, forcing them away from his head and holding them tightly in hers. Her son... her strong, unshakable son... was breaking down like a child before her eyes, and it crushed her heart.
Tears blurred his vision as he finally choked out the words that hollowed him. "I killed her, Mom. Not with my hands, but with my failure. She must have thought there was no reason left to stay..."
