[The city of Sanctuary – POV of a girl nad Ely from the streets.]

It was packed. All in her life, Ely had never seen a greater crowd than this one. Armies of countries going to war were nothing compared to this avalanche of human flesh.

They were right to do this outside the city, even if they had to change the location at the last minute. Inside the city, such a crowd would never be able to fit. Of course, the extra inco they had earned by helping was the cherry on top.

Ever since she and Riky had arrived in the city, they had been constantly busy doing this or that for the Sanctum. Nothing permanent, but the work Sanctuary hired them for paid much more for the short ti than any other job could. They weren’t lacking in money exactly, with Luca earning more than enough for all three of them.

But they couldn’t just do nothing. For the opening event, the Sanctum had built a lot of wooden houses inside the city. Right now, they were all rented to others, but from one of the Sanctum officials, they had heard a possibility of the Sanctum selling it for cheap after the event ended.

Even if they didn’t sell it cheap, if the Sanctum let them do that installnt thod, all three of them could work and pay for it. In just a year or two, they would have a new house of their own in one of the biggest cities on the mainland.

That was their goal.

So Ely, Riky, and Luca - all put their everything into any jobs they could get hired for. Their preferred job, like most people in the Sanctuary, was always the one offered by Sanctum. Before people like them, living on the streets, with no connection to anyone, would have never been able to even learn about the available jobs officially offered by Sanctum.

But now, with their receivers, everyone learned about the job opportunities together. Everyone could apply together. There was no small competition, but the little jobs were so many that they always managed to find so work every few days. Already, Ely had earned over 3 gold and 70 silver, and that was after they spent money on food, receivers, and other things.

Indeed, staying here was the right choice. And buying these receivers was also a good investnt.

The preparation of the opening event had kept them busy nonstop. They had done simple jobs like removing stones, cutting high grass, and cleaning the massive colosseum built in the new island city called New Dawn. Both Riky and she had been to the island multiple tis through the waygates.

Riky had even given a lot of thought to buying a carriage and horses on the Sanctum loan to start the business in New Dawn. But it wasn’t sothing they could decide just like that; it required more money and planning behind it. Luca had money saved up, but neither of them would use his hard-earned money just like that.

Plus, there was hope for a better job. One that used their specific skills, so they could earn more and do it with less back-breaking work. The factory job was sothing Ely was hoping to get, but she wasn’t set on that.

Since, for the first ti in a long ti, they had enough money to take it easy, Ely wanted Riky and herself to take their ti before joining a permanent job. She had heard many great things that were planned for the city from different people all over the city. Before taking up such a burden, it was better to see their options.

Even right now, when the first day of the opening speech was ongoing, Riky, Ely, and even Luca were working as line separators together.

The gigantic crowd before the massive flying stage was carefully divided into squares with space all around so people could co and go as they wanted. These squares were ford by air shield runic machines that could be turned on and off with a flick of a finger. Their job was to keep this up till soone wanted to leave, then activate it again right after.

There was rarely anyone leaving; only people who really had to go would miss the once -in-a-lieti event happening before them.

Once again, Lord Keeper had created massive glowing figures of himself and the Sanctum heads. Even Lord Torvin, the newly elected head of Sanctuary, was among them. The man looked just as calm as a commoner sitting beside god-like figures would.

Ely had seen the man with kind eyes in his shop whenever she had passed through the main street. The MCS shop. Where they were fed many tis, when things were really bad for them. Riky was still little back then. Ely had teared up that particular night when she had missed her father the most with an empty belly and not a coin in hand.

For herself, she wouldn’t care much. But seeing her little baby brother suffer such a fate was heartbreaking. Since that day, no matter how bad the job, Ely had never looked back. She had made a promise to herself that day in the rain, she would never let Riky sleep hungry at any cost.

It was a good thing she found jobs; she never said it to Riky or Luca, but when the situation was really bad, many tis she had made plans to rob people or steal from the shops. It was not a promise she took lightly. Good thing she never had to break the morals her father had taught her all those years ago.

At last, after the varied welco speeches, songs, and dances, the main person whom they had all gathered to hear from took up the stage.

The giant golden windows that showed a close-up of their Lord Keeper’s face were placed at multiple places in the city and outside. All major cities had these, Ely knew. Ely had seen Lady Mindseer, a highsword transcendent, put up those as she was picking up stones from the ground in preparation for this event.
