That was the thing with fighting this bastard—Damian had no idea what was real in its slimy body. Even more so here—Damian sensed a singular mana signature from all its darkness. Even the sword had the sa feeling.

"I hate this guy.." Sam said, not trying to use his lightning to fly and instead choosing to be carried by Damian.

Before the grey dirt flying high from the giant dark energy explosion could clear up, the swirling, twisting giant dark sli rose out of it and ford a golem-like shape with an enormous black sword in hand. It headed straight for their heads seconds after being materialized.

"I think the feeling is mutual.." Damian replied.

Damian used his leg rune again and threw Sam into the wormhole, following right after—landing on the grey planet’s surface so hundreds of ters away from the giant black golem, now behind its back. Damian used his Archscript Sovereign skill to add the paper-thin aura spell to his black spear. Then he made over seven arcs of thin but long aura slashes with sharp edges, moving his spear through the windless atmosphere and sending them flying straight toward the giant figure.

Sam beside him was also charging so skill from the second they landed on the surface. It was still charging when Damian’s seven arcs landed on the dark giant at different places, cutting its limbs one by one—the ugly face along with the dark sword had been cut in half. The attack didn’t cost much mana for Damian, but it wasn’t all that effective on a figure made of formless darkness either. The demon lord could just reattach himself. The point wasn’t to injure him, though—it was just to buy more ti.

And he succeeded in doing just that—before the demon lord could regain his form, a small, tennis ball-sized white energy ball with electric bolts going wild all around it had been launched by Sam, charged to the limit with his sacrium sword. Damian placed a wormhole in the way and sent it inches from the giant figure’s chest in a split second. The giant, blinding explosion that followed was a pretty nice sight to see.

It had to cost the guy at least so mana, if nothing else. But then again, the demon lord had access to a million bodies, all generating mana every second of the day—it was a bigger mana generator than Damian’s own.

The grey surface of the planet suddenly beca darker and darker around Damian and Sam—they imdiately left the land and flew up. Seconds later, the darkness spat out the familiar monstrous humanoid form in grey skin—that thing could fly too. It had to be a copy of the real body of the fourth ranker demon lord. Despite having the control of the Chaos god, he seed to have evolved—unlike Land Breaker or the Sea Snake, who both remained human even after becoming fourth rankers. Maybe it was because of his esper class.. Sam, too, was already a very different creature from a normal human, with lightning running rampant all over his body.

The seven-foot-tall demon lord charged straight toward them as giant dark arrows after arrows were launched ahead of his charge—blocking their flight path, slowing their speed. Damian easily maneuvered through the ss, and Sam could handle himself well enough too. Damian sent so arrows back onto the demon lord using a wormhole, but the guy could just take control and send them right back toward them, so it was a useless effort. Damian stopped doing that, and both he and Sam sent arcs after arcs of aura from spear and sword toward the figure following behind them in midair—but the demon lord easily dodged. The guy was faster than any third ranker could possibly fly, but Sam and Damian were not average transcendents. Flying speed was sothing they excelled in. Still, the demon lord could keep up with them with ease—that was pure fourth ranker power.

Thankfully, Damian could sense that the palace had no mana signature belonging to the demon lord. Unlike in real life, it didn’t seem like the demon lord could split himself here into multiple bodies. Not having any pign or human minions ant he couldn’t force people out of those white boxes. The demon lord did not want to keep them under control anymore. The reason was simply because he had failed to do so once—he had no option but to get rid of them.

The fight continued for so half an hour—even a fourth ranker, powerful as he was, could not get rid of Damian and Sam that easily. Damian had hundreds of ways to get out of the darkness, and Sam was lightning in itself. Still, it wasn’t an easy fight either—Sam was bleeding from many places. Damian himself had tanked many dark energy explosions. Dodging them was easy, but when the damned demon lord, with unlimited mana at hand, spamd countless decay energy spheres, sotis even using wormholes wasn’t enough to escape.

Plus, the demon lord had long figured out what it was that they were doing and was trying to go back to his dark palace for a while now—but Damian and Sam kept annoying him all the way, slowing him down—getting in his way. They had slowly reached the palace while doing this, but they had bought considerable ti in the process.

At last, Lucian used the waygate, and Damian and Sam quickly jumped in. The demon lord taking the long route gave them a few seconds to do this right.

"Did you find it?" Sam asked while drinking the healing potion Damian gave him right after coming out of the waygate.

"Yes," Maelor answered instead of Lucian.

There were hundreds of books all around them—spread across the black stone floor. The room had slightly glowing green stones illuminating it, but it was still pretty dark in here. The room was massive and filled with shelves and shelves of books. They were massive—going high and wide for ters.
