Chapter 78

lisca was about to step forward, but Lorna held her arm, which made her face the girl again. Her face had a sad, tight smile. "Please be careful. Though I don’t want you to level up so fast." She grinned, and her voice was proud, but it didn’t reach her eyes. "It’s up to you."

Her face remained passive as she stared at Lorna. She nodded her head, and Lorna let go of her arm.

"First of all, one minute stretch for everyone." Lawrenz announced with a single clap. "Co on, warm up yourselves!"

Everyone moved imdiately except for Lorna and lisca. The two girls eyed each other. Then lisca started to do so stretching. Her body was a bit tight from all the tension she felt in the last few hours. Lorna was hesitant to move, but she managed to work her limbs a bit while looking at everyone around.

"Maybe she’ll get another nightmare out of this." A hostile voice from a girl reached lisca’s ears. The girl was one of her dorm mates, of course.

"She just arrived yesterday and hasn’t even had any fights yet." Responded by the other girl beside the first one.

"Another disturbing night again. I hope she just quits."

"Then she’ll be dead if she did that."

"At least she’s out of our dorm and won’t be having everyone’s attention anymore."

Lorna glanced in the girls’ direction and glared at them.

lisca did not mind their gossiping. But she wanted them to tone it down so that the one beside her wouldn’t hear because it looked like Lorna was ready to breathe fire at them.

She was stretching her arm as Lorna huffed and was about to storm to her dorm mates. She grabbed her by the elbow before she could take another step.

"Ignore them." She uttered. "It’s nothing."

Lorna gave her a sharp look also. Her face was contorted in annoyance. "Why would you let them talk about you like that?" She pulled her arm from her grip. She let go of her then.

"It’s just a waste of breath, Lorna. They’re nothing. You should just conserve your energy for sothing else important. Not on people like them."

The girl ford a thin line with her lips and shot them another look full of daggers before she exhaled a loud breath.

"Ti’s up!" Gea was the one to voice out this ti. "Back off, people. Give the space for the old and the new."

Daisy shot Gea a glare, which was responded by a quirky smile and raised eyebrows by the girl’s dorm warden. Daring the blonde Daisy of any cobacks.

"Do you want to do what Mike did to you?"

Gea snorted. "Even if you try, you can’t."

"Stop it, you two. You’re not the ones who got to duel here." Lawrenz hissed to the two ladies. He was shaking his head. "Your attitudes are an embarrassnt for the trainees."

"I don’t understand why Mike had to make Gea his stand-in for today. Knowing these two doesn’t have any common grounds." Josh chid in beside Lawrenz.

"Well, he sees fit everywhere." Gea with her mocking smile even tapped Josh’s shoulder. "I’m honored to et the newbies in advance though."

"Yeah, he could make use of you instead of just sitting around in your office. And he scored you a good bruise because you turned rusty for slacking." The blonde wasn’t finished with her yet.

"All right! Let’s get ready." Lawrenz ca between Gea and Daisy to separate the two before it beca their duel instead.

"No weapons. Only kicks and fists." Josh set the rules after she pulled Gea to the side. "Yield when you’re unable to fight back. No stubbornness. This is just a quick assessnt of your skills." He wiggled an eyebrow at lisca.

With a sharp gaze, lisca jolted her head for a nod. She pulled out the knives in her waist and passed them to Lorna behind her. She did not bother to give the other two in her boots. She had no intention to cheat anyway.

She stepped up in front of everyone, and Daisy stord forward.

"Ready your asses. Don’t kill each other. Start!" Lawrenz exclaid, and he retreated out of the way.

lisca just stood there, waiting for the other woman to pounce on her. But they were just both staring at each other.

"I’ll give you the chance to strike first." Daisy stated, but she was already in a defensive stance.

"No. Show how strong you are as our trainer." She countered, but she was on her toes too. Underestimating any enemy was always the most basic mistake that everyone makes. And she won’t be among them. There was always soone better than anyone. Be it human or supernatural. This ti, she had to act human.

The two were walking in circles. Eyes never left each other. But like in a silent agreent, they moved together. eting in the center.

Daisy threw a punch, and lisca stepped to the side as she threw her upper body down, doing a handstand, and moved her lower legs up. She locked them by the woman’s neck and pulled the woman’s body forward to crash on the ground. Daisy grunted as her back hit the platform hard.

This was so easy for her. Her legs could have broken the slim neck, but she had to withdraw her strength not to do a cri in front of everyone. She stood up to let the woman breathe and recover.

Everyone’s jaw was on the floor upon witnessing the brief action. Even the other group far from them looked in their direction.

lisca did not mind them. Her focus was on her opponent. Daisy hadn’t surrendered yet so the fight was still going on.

The woman took a deep breath and wiggled an eyebrow at her. "Well, I let you do that to see your strength and what moves you have. Not bad." She was still breathing heavily.

Sure. Whatever. It can be true or not but lisca knew that was a bad move for anyone. Was that how Daisy taught the trainees? She felt bad for them already. Testing an opponent’s strength by letting yourself take the hit especially if you don’t know that person was a big no-no. It’s the sa as underestimating your enemy. Testing the strength by strength was the best thod.

For soone like lisca, she doesn’t want to belittle humans. But they can just never compare to her. She’s part supernatural for damn’s sake. And she can finish anyone inside the arena just by her speed in cutting their throats. But she won’t get answers in that way. And there were other people outside who could be alerted and would use their chemicals on her. She can’t just over-exert her capabilities like that now that humans managed to create sothing against the half of her being.

The woman started to advance on her again and this ti she just blocked her attacks. She had to be extra careful. To limit the strength and the speed she exerts. The woman was quick and her every attempt was firm.

"Fight back." Daisy grunted as she kept blocking her.

"I won’t get expelled by hitting a teacher, right?" Her tongue ran off again.

Daisy sneered. "This is not a school."

"If you say so." She started to give her own punches then.

The woman tried to avoid her right fist by stepping aside and Daisy grabbed that sa arm close to her body and attempted to bring her knees up to her stomach. But lisca knew that thod too well. It was the basic counter if soone attacked with a fist.

lisca used her other hand to block Daisy’s upcoming knee attack on her abdon. And at the sa ti, she used the arm that the woman was holding and she elbowed her with a bit of strength. That caught Daisy off-guard. She might have thought that her hold on lisca’s arm was firm enough to not let her use it. Her elbow almost hit her face but she quickly jolted backward to avoid the sudden turn of attack.

The trainers at the side exchanged glances at one another. No one was able to say anything from what they’d seen so far. But they knew that the first act was impressive enough. lisca was able to take down a trainer just a minute earlier. Despite what their co-trainer Daisy said.

Back to square one, they were pacing in a circle again. Waiting for each other’s attack. lisca got to see Lorna’s face beyond Daisy’s. The girl had a tight expression as she was biting her lower lip. And her eyebrows were slightly furrowed. The girl was blinking slowly and she could see the loneliness in her eyes. Right. If she was to win over Daisy, Lorna would be left behind.

"Where are you looking at?" Daisy asked, at the sa ti bringing her left leg up for a kick.

lisca with her quick reflexes even though she was distracted, her right arm shut forward to hold Daisy’s ankle and she kicked the woman’s standing leg by the back of its knee. That made Daisy lose her footing and she didn’t let go of the leg in her grip. She bent them backwards and she put a foot on Daisy’s back. She pushed her forcibly on the ground so that she wouldn’t be able to stand anymore.

The woman grunted in pain as lisca kept bending her knees in an uncomfortable direction and any second more, her bone might break. She was waiting for Daisy to tap the ground. To yield.
