Chapter 64

"I think it’s better if I’d be with everyone." Her reply was as they stepped into the opening. The door opened on its own. Lorna took the lead, and she was on her tail. She noticed there were another three doors inside. One to the left, right, and ahead of them.

"That door to your right leads to the servant’s quarters. That door ahead of us was the way to the mansion’s living hall. And this, to my left, is where we should go." Lorna introduced each. They all look the sa, though. A gray tal door with a scanner to its side against the white-colored wall.

"Honestly, why the white color?" She just had to ask it.

"White conceals nothing. I grew up with it. That’s why my apartnt in Falden was white too." Lorna showed her ID card again to the scanner to her left, and the door had a creaking sound before it moved.

lisca rood her eyes inside. They haven’t entered yet, but she felt the cold air from the room. It was dark, but she used her wolf vision since she was behind Lorna. It was a wine cellar. "Wow." She mumbled under her breath.

Lorna, who couldn’t see anything yet, turned around to Liz.

"It’s freezing in here." lisca stated simply as Lorna gazed up at her.

The girl proceeded to move forward, and the lights turned on consecutively to the end of the row.

lisca blew air through her mouth. It was a good thing that she ca up with an imdiate response to Lorna’s questioning look. She groaned inwardly, thinking that she better keep the praises to herself. It was a dumb reaction of hers. And luckily, her eyes can change colors in just a blink. She can retract her senses pretty quickly.

There were different wine bottles in every corner. The girl before her made hurried steps to the left side and halted in front of the wine cabinet. She was looking for sothing, reading the label perhaps. Then she lifted one of the bottles and exchanged it for the one beside it. After a few seconds, a sound of screws or engines working reached lisca’s ears.

Lorna retreated a step, and she gestured an arm for her to move back also. She could feel the girl starting to shiver from how cold the temperature in the room was. For her, it was just a bit cold because she raised her body heat before entering the room.

The wine shelf moved forward and slid to the side. Giving them an opening to a small space that appeared in front of them. Lorna almost leapt to get inside. "Hurry, it’s too cold in here." She was even hugging herself and rubbing her arms. She took three full steps and was beside the girl. Lorna then pressed the green button at the side. The shelf started to move back to its place, closing on them.

lisca guessed it was an elevator or sothing, and she was right. She flinched when it started to move down. She felt like she was in so spy movie with a house that was full of secrets. She could actually compare her life to one. That’s why she loves watching action movies too if she decides to get up from bed during her off days.

"Why did you run away?" She asked Lorna. She was starting to be nosy too. Maybe the girl already rubbed it on her.

Lorna blinked in her direction. It wasn’t the first ti Liz had asked her personal questions, but every ti the woman did, she was still taken aback. Liz had a cold deanor around her, so it was the last thing anyone would expect her to ask or say when she talked.

lisca stared at the girl. Though she could just see the side of her face, she noticed every change in Lorna’s expression. Her eyes seed to set back, rembering sothing from a mory. The slight quirk of her lips too. Then, at last, she snorted and t her gaze. "Because I don’t like this place anymore." She shrugged her shoulders also.

She was sure there was more to that reason. It’s fine if she doesn’t want to reveal it for now. She doesn’t even know if it would be helpful to her.

After a few seconds, the elevator stopped and its door opened. Revealing in front of them a lobby. A reception desk was just a short distance from them, sofas and lounge seats at the far corner, a vending machine standing close against the wall, and of course, people were hanging around. All eyes were on them, especially at her. So even gasped as they saw past Lorna. She noticed that most of them were in uniform—a black leather suit if she got it right. That was what she observed by the fabric.

"Loriena?" A tall guy with a beard like in his early 40s almost ca running to them. They stepped out of the elevator, and she halted, as well as the man, who instantly hugged Lorna in front of everyone. "I have been waiting for you since this morning. Your mom told that you might be coming today." He had the sa eyes as Lorna and the sa cheekbones. She doesn’t have to guess who he is. "And I had been calling you. Why don’t you answer your phone? You were ignoring us for months. Why the sudden change of air, Loriena?"

lisca wanted to turn away. The last thing she expected to welco her was a family drama. She can see the change in his expression when he sees her daughter. From being thrilled, she could feel that he missed her and was worried, then his brows furrowed that he was about to scold Lorna for what she did.

Lorna sighed and glanced at her surroundings. "Dad, not in here." She mumbled with wide eyes, feeling embarrassed.

"I’ve just seen you after months without contacting us, then now you would just dismiss ?"

lisca also noticed that everyone was pretending to get back to their business. They were facing their friends. A few people were in blue-colored uniforms and were using a laptop on the sofa and the one next to him was on her phone. She wished she had sothing to do also. But she was just standing there, waiting for Lorna’s instructions. She wanted to pull her away so that they could proceed.

"We’ll talk later, dad. Please just not now. I have soone with ."

Then the guy turned to her and stared blatantly. She nodded at him.

"She’s your new friend? Where did you et her?" His stern voice reminded her of her own father.

"Yes. At one of Rico’s missions. We had been partners."

"What? That boy? I told him not to tolerate you for you can’t even protect yourself."

That sohow piqued lisca’s interest. It ca to her understanding that they didn’t know their daughter was tagging along with Rico.

"Dad, please." Lorna held her father’s arm. Her eyes were begging him to stop their conversation in public. "I’ll talk to you later. I promise."

"You better be." That was a threat and he looked at lisca’s direction again. "Hello, miss. I’m Lawrenz." He offered a handshake and she accepted it. "Lorna’s father. I don’t know what she sees in you, but I’m guessing you were the main reason why she ca back."

"I’m lisca, sir. And you got it wrong. She ca back because she wanted to try learning again."

She noticed at the side of her vision that Lorna’s eyes widened. Lawrenz glanced at his daughter. He finally let go of her hand.

"Oh, is that so?" His face instantly glowed from excitent. "Then, I would make sure that this ti she would learn."

Uh-oh. Poor Loriena. She can almost hear her swallowing hard. An imagination was coming to her mind of how hard it can be for the girl.

"Lawrenz! Let’s go. The eting was about to start." The guy who was with a laptop, stood up along with the woman beside her.

"I’ll see you tomorrow for the training, lisca." Then he faced his daughter. "And you, we’ll talk later."

"Yes, dad." Lorna’s only response. As her dad and his co-trainers walked out of the lobby, she imdiately turned to Liz with a glare. "Why did you say that to him?" Her tone was accusing.

"Was that supposed to be a secret?" She retorted innocently.

The girl squinted her eyes and heaved a deep breath. It was clear she wanted to say more but thought otherwise. Instead, she exhaled loudly through her mouth and shook her head. Dismissing whatever words that she was about to retort. She huffed in childish annoyance and turned around. "Whatever. Let’s get you registered first." She was even stomping as she walked to the reception.

She snorted silently as Lorna left her standing still. There was a small smile on her lips while shaking her head lightly. She was just teasing the girl. She knew that she didn’t have to say those, but she just wanted to divert Lawrenz’s attention back to his daughter. And there was nothing wrong with that.
