Chapter 201: Waging War Part 2
The Western King and Queen spent several prolonged seconds of silence as they processed the implications of the recent events that happened. Elys was boiling mad at the coincidence of the matter, while Aleksander on the other hand worried.
He was starting to believe the lie that the previous queen spread about him.
’Am I truly cursed and going to bring the kingdom into ruin?’ he asked himself. ’Have I done things to lead this war into my own kingdom?’
The young king did proclaim that he wanted to bring the Western Kingdom down to ashes, but he didn’t want other kingdoms getting in his own way of doing things at all.
The Eastern Kingdom wasn’t supposed to make a move. They were supposed to keep quiet and live peacefully just like how they believe in using no weapons.
Suddenly, the incident with Elys and the killing aura that tried to enter her office vanished in their minds. Elys and Aleksander’s heads were now occupied by one thing – the Eastern Kingdom’s presud attack on the Western Kingdom.
"My king, what do you say our next move should be?" Elys asked her husband.
Aleksander bit the corner of his lip so hard that he eventually bled. Wiping the blood that had dripped to his chin, Aleksander sucked at his own blood and then spat to the ground.
"We are going to fight them if they even try to make any further steps towards the kingdom borders, my queen," Aleksander spoke. "The Eastern Kingdom won’t be a match with our armies of vampires who are full of magical affinities."
"Would you go battle as well, if worse cos to worst?" she asked him.
"Hell, I will kill those weak Eastern n if they even try to set foot on Western soil," Aleksander snarled.
Elys unclenched her fists and heaved a sigh. Her husband turned his head and looked at Elys, curious as to what she was thinking at the mont.
He couldn’t help but ask her, "What is in your mind, wife? Tell , I am always here to listen to your woes if there may be."
Elysianne started to walk towards Aleksander. Her eyes were cast down, but when she was barely an inch apart from the vampire king, she lifted them up to gaze in his eyes.
"My king, I worry for my people," Elys spoke, using a weak voice to appeal to Aleksander’s softer side. Gradually, she raised her tone as the anger in her surfaced, "The humans residing in the Western Kingdom must co to no harm, King Aleksander. I ask that you promise
that."
The young king’s face turned soft. He reached out a hand and cupped his wife’s face.
"That shouldn’t even be sothing for you to ask of , my queen. I know how much you care for your people, and I will do whatever it takes to keep them away from this trouble should it escalate," Aleksander told her.
Elys leaned her face to feel his cold palm on her face. She closed her eyes and whispered, "Thank you, Aleksander."
The vampire king, moved by his wife’s passion for keeping her people safe, took her in his arms and enveloped her in his warm embrace. He swore to protect her and that of the people she cared for, and no vampire or other foreigners could co and destroy that conviction.
A knock ca from Aleksander’s door, and the two slowly withdrew from their shared mont of embrace. The young king already knew the identity of the person who arrived by the sound of his footsteps.
"Your majesty," the guard outside spoke.
The ticking clock in the man’s breast pocket gave him away as well, and the young vampire king spoke even before the guard outside his office door could even continue his announcent.
"Let him in," Aleksander said.
Elys took a seat beside Aleksander’s table as the doors began to open. As the man entered with a frown on his face, Aleksander lifted his head and greeted him.
"Henry," the young vampire said, "I would normally ask why you are here at this exact mont, but it is a good thing that you ca even before I called for you."
The old attendant bowed his head and spoke, "I served you ever since I could rember, your majesty. I could tell by the buzz inside the Rose Palace that there must be sothing you would probably need
with sooner or later."
A smirk lifted the corners of Aleksander’s mouth.
"I am seriously starting to consider giving you a raise and an honorary title by now, Henry," Aleksander joked about.
"Perhaps you should, husband," Elys said. "But then again, better just to give Henry a raise and then keep him in the shadows where he is most efficient working behind the scenes."
The old man nodded his head and said, "I agree with her majesty, the Queen. It would be beneficial for everyone that I don’t raise the brows of the nobilities should I rise and start to stand where they stand."
"Do I look like I would give a damn if they do, Henry?" Aleksander asked.
"Absolutely not, your majesty. But it would be wise to follow Queen Elysianne’s suggestion," Henry replied. "Besides, I have already the influence I need all over the kingdom as per my area of expertise is to be asked."
The vampire king clapped his hands and stood up from his chair.
"Bravo, Henry, bravo. Indeed you are one of a kind, the best attendant that I could ever have," Aleksander complinted .
"You flatter
too much, your majesty," Henry bowed his head.
"Very well then," Elys clapped her hands together. "Maybe we should start discussing what should be discussed at the mont. Husband, do you have anything you would want Henry to do?"
Aleksander’s eyes turned back to Henry after so ti thinking.
"Ah, you have already extracted all of the information from that arsonist, right?" he asked Henry.
The old man raised his head and said, "Yes, your majesty. He couldn’t speak, and it was pretty difficult, but I was able to get so help and made the man spill every bit of information he knew of."
"Is he still alive?" Elys asked.
"He survived the torture process, your majesty," Henry replied to Elys’ question, "He still resides at the old manor’s dungeon, but I do co by and check on him from ti to ti."
"Then we shall have him executed publicly," Elys flatly said.
Henry was suddenly out for words. Even Aleksander’s mouth hung slightly open with shock at the coldness of his wife’s voice. Wasn’t it a few monts ago that she had made him promise to keep all humans safe in the Western Kingdom?
"Wife, I have thought you wanted to keep the man alive, as he was a human himself?" Aleksander asked her.
Elys turned to Aleksander and said, "He was a human, but his choices have led him to endanger the rest. I don’t think of him as the sa, he has beco a monster by causing the fire."
"Then shall I bring the man over to the authorities, your majesty? We have kept him for a while now, and the issue has been quite forgotten by the people already," Henry noted.
"The issue isn’t done as long as we don’t put soone to bla," Elys said. "Ah... now that I rember it, how has Mora been?"
The young queen turned to her husband and Aleksander waved a dismissing hand, "The vampire clergy is still insisting that Mora be released. However, they were only the minority. Not even High Priestess Naya have spoken up for him."
An evil smile spread across Elys’ face. She imdiately understood what High Priestess Naya was trying to avoid.
She didn’t want herself to be associated with a traitor, but she also didn’t want the rest of the vampire clergy to hate her for abandoning Mora. So instead of speaking up herself, she was desperately trying to get the people’s sentints via her other priests and clergy mbers who were vocal.
"Have a fake evidence planted on Mora," Elys said, "and have him executed as well together with the arsonist. That should create a spectacle for anyone who would want to consider betraying us."
An evil laugh tinkled in the air as Elys giggled at her plans. Aleksander who was shocked at first, slowly saw the genius in his wife’s choices.
"Wife, you are most wonderful for thinking of this right now!" the young king said, "We could have this as a threat to the Eastern side, let them see how serious we are of those that try to challenge our power."
Elys smiled at her husband.
"But of course, my king. We shouldn’t let those insignificant people try to shake us," Elys said. Turning her head towards Henry again, Elys waved a dismissing hand, "Go on, Henry. If you need help, find Cordelia and get her to help."
The old man bowed down and said, "Right away, your majesty."
