Chapter 171: Impatient King
Elys and Aleksander looked at each other, a similar scowl shared between the two of them. It was clear as day that they left the capital with a bitter taste in their mouths, and a fiery temperant for the vampire clergy priests that ca to ’help’.
"Are you thinking what I am thinking?" the both of them suddenly asked at the sa ti.
Their eyes widened with the coincidence that they said the sa thing at the exact sa ti. What were the odds really for them to think the sa too?
Aleksander cleared his throat and waved for Elys to speak ahead of him, "You go first," he said.
Elys shook her head and replied, "No, you go first. You were the one that seed pretty upset."
Aleksander crossed his arms and raised an incredulous brow at his wife, "You are to say, wife. Were you not the one that threatened a vampire clergy priest at the capital a while ago? By the way, thank you for defending , you did not need to do that, but you did."
Elys smirked at Aleksander, "I hate it when they look down on us like that. I rely just wanted to show them what they are up against. But on a serious note, though, go on husband, what did you have in mind?"
The vampire walked close to Elys and lifted her hand that he healed half an hour ago.
"Have I not told you already, Elysianne? You, my queen, will always co first," Aleksander muttered under his breath.
Elys could feel him inhale and exhaled through the tiny hairs on her hand, and it sohow sent an electrifying sensation up and down her spine.
Was it the way his lips kissed her knuckles gently? Had it been how his smoldering gaze was locked on hers as he bowed to get her hand without losing eye contact? Perhaps it was rely because of the weather?
But then again, blaming it on the weather was rather a stupid thing to say.
Elysianne cleared her throat, and then said, "Well... if you insist then I shall go ahead – don’t you think that Priest Mora is suspicious?"
Aleksander stood straight and gently let go of Elys hand. He squared his shoulder and then lifted his downcast eyes to Elys’ level. His expression was serious and he slowly nodded to Elys.
"I think the sa too, my queen," he responded. "His answer didn’t seem to be rely just a playful act of defiance to our position. The rest of the knights that tried to put out the fire back then had a hard ti doing so, but then they co along and the fire was contained imdiately?"
"It is pretty suspicious don’t you think?" Elys asked.
"I don’t just think he is suspicious. I am more than convinced that that priest is one of the masterminds behind the fire," Aleksander said with is fist balled up in the air.
"Now what is the plan, husband?"
Aleksander paced the wide space in their shared bedchamber, one of his hands covering his mouth while the other supporting his elbow. He humd as he was thinking, and the young king only stopped when he had a sowhat concrete plan to be executed.
"When is Cordelia returning?" Aleksander asked Elys.
His wife shrugged and answered him honestly, "I don’t really know, Aleksander. Cordelia may take a few days since the outermost borders of the Western Kingdom is quite a long way from the last piece of civilization in the kingdom. She went on foot too, as taking a horse would be too obvious with those animal whisperer Easterners."
Aleksander grunted with worry, and this ti around, made his way to the doors. He unlocked the handles and then peeked out of them as he spoke loud and clear, "Get
Henry."
After a few minutes, Henry ca knocking on the doors of their chambers.
"You called for , your majesty?" the old man called.
"Yes, co on in, Henry," Aleksander replied.
The old attendant opened the doors. He made his way towards Aleksander and Elys who were seated at the sofa, and Henry waited for him to be addressed.
He wondered what happened within the vampire capital and why Elys and Aleksander were on edge. But just as he used to, the old man kept his mouth shut and patiently waited for his master to speak to him about it.
"How is the plan going? You have taken care of it, yes?" Aleksander asked Henry.
The attendant was confused for a second, but then was quickly reminded of the previous mission the young king had given him. Henry nodded vigorously and signed a thumbs up.
"The distributions are on schedule, sire," Henry said proudly, "I think that we would be able to get a hundred percent in two months."
Aleksander raised a brow and said, "Two months? That is too long! Make those three weeks at most."
Henry shook his head and explained, "But it can’t be that fast, your majesty. The potion was intended to be ingested in small droplets over a period of ti. Should anyone – human or vampire – be unfortunate to drink more than two spoons at the sa ti of the potion would have them sprawled dead and foaming in the mouth!"
"Tch!" Aleksander clicked his tongue, "Well how long must it take for one person to successfully ingest the exact amount without dying?"
Elys couldn’t help but butt in the conversation and asked, "Wait, is this regarding that potion that would render the vampires with affinities weak?"
Aleksander and Henry raised their brows at the question.
"It is, but the effects would be death should we be careless with our asurents, and you did say that you don’t want to go down to mass genocide," Henry said with a grim look. "Besides, a super heightened sll and could possibly detect the potion in high concentrations."
Aleksander grunted with Henry’s words. His patience was wearing thin but his options didn’t give him much of a choice at all.
They need to take it slowly or else risk detection.
