Chapter 149: Consequences

"You won’t want to anger my queen," Sir Noa warned the vampire king. "She may finally decide to lift the kingdom’s rule regarding fighting. We may not have magic like the vampires do, but our kingdom is rich with things that could kill you with a snap of our finger."

A low guttural growl rose from Aleksander, anger bubbling inside of him.

"Is that a threat, Sir Noa? Are you saying that the Eastern Kingdom is willing to go to war against the bigger, stronger, and magically inclined vampire kingdom of the West?" Aleksander questioned Sir Noa.

The man rely stared at the vampire king blankly, no emotion in his eyes and every single inch of his face.

"It is a fact, your majesty," Sir Noa replied coolly, "A fact that might just be your kingdom’s doom."

Aleksander scoffed at the words spewed by his foreign visitor, "Such lies and bluffs don’t work on , Sir Noa."

"Then would you gamble to restrain , King Aleksander?" he countered. Sir Noa glanced back at Elys who still sat in her throne and asked, "How about you, Queen Elysianne? Please don’t tell

you agree with your husband? You are, after all, the more level headed if I was to be more honest."

"How impudent!" hissed Aleksander. "You dare to paint

with negativity, you foreigner!"

Elys’ eyes twitched. She saw just a hint of a smile lifting at the corners of Sir Noa’s mouth. He seed to have anticipated Aleksander’s response, and spoke words he knew would stall the explosive vampire king.

"Husband, let the man go," Elys said as she turned her eyes towards Aleksander.

The young king’s face turned dumbstruck, his expression that of utter surprise with Elys’ orders.

"Did you just say that we let him go and return to the Eastern Kingdom, to possibly start and wage a war against our kingdom?" Aleksander tried to clarify what he heard from his wife.

"Yes, you heard

right, my king," Elys closed her eyes for a mont and then opened them back to look into Sir Noa’s face, "Let Sir Noa go and return to his ho as he is."

Sir Noa turned his body halfway to give Elys a mocking bow, "Thank you, your majesty."

"Elys..." Aleksander called out to her, "This is going to be a huge mistake," he warned her.

Aleksander hesitated for several minutes; his golden eyes battling Sir Noa’s unwavering gaze. They were fighting a silent battle of who was going to give in first.

"Aleksander!" Elys called out to her husband once more, "Let the man go."

"And what, my queen? Make him report to his queen to start a war against our kingdom?" Aleksander replied, too stubborn not to let Sir Noa go.

"Don’t be silly, my king," Elys tried to appease him, "no matter should the Eastern Kingdom want to have a war against our people, the West will always prevail. You and I will make sure of that, King Aleksander. We are strong, and no kingdom shall tear us down."

The Western King’s head cooled down slowly, his wife’s words calming him.

"Well, that is true what you say, wife," Aleksander agreed.

Sir Noa only stood where he was. He did not care for the sappy words the Western Queen was speaking about. He had lost his respect for her and her power the mont she denied the Eastern Kingdom’s summons for them to stand trial.

Aleksander stepped aside, letting Sir Noa walk away as he was about to do monts before he stopped him.

"Sir Noa," Elys called out to the Eastern adviser.

He turned around as he was about to grab the door’s handle, and then raised a brow as he said in reply, "Yes, your majesty?"

"Tell Queen Euphemia that we will be glad to arrange sothing else in return if she lets go of my husband and my faults during our visit," she told him, "The Western Kingdom can offer a lot, even protection and magical items to secure the borders of your kingdom."

Sir Noa snorted and replied, "I will relay such an offer to my queen, but she will still know that you deny her demands too. There are consequences to each of your choices, and this one won’t be an exception."

Elys smiled at him and replied, "I am well aware, Sir Noa. I am well aware."

The Eastern adviser pulled the heavy doors by himself, opening them and walking out of the throne room. The High Court was no more around by the ti that he went out, and only Cordelia and Henry, and the knights that were stationed outside were left.

Sir Noa recognized the maidservant and attendant, and then greeted them accordingly.

Cordelia and Henry acknowledged Sir Noa’s greeting, a silent bow and nod to the Eastern foreign visitor. By the ti that he had walked and vanished around the corners of the hallways, Cordelia and Henry made their way inside the throne room.

"Your majesty? Is there anything you need?" Cordelia asked Elys as they t in between.

"Cordelia, I need you to tail that man until the Western borders. See to it what he does and if he would be eting with anyone else within the kingdom," Elys ordered her maidservant.

The old woman understood and imdiately dashed out of the throne room. She was quick to catch up with Sir Noa, as he had walked leisurely within the palace on his way out.

Elys’ face turned brooding as they went out of the throne room. Henry was not far behind, and Aleksander seed to understand her need for silence at the mont. Her husband didn’t utter a single word, and he waited for her face to lighten up before he spoke too.

"Wife," Aleksander called out to Elys.

They had walked side by side for a while now, tracing their steps towards their next destination which was Aleksander’s office yet again.

"Yes?" Elys asked.

"I think we will need to prepare for war," Aleksander said.
