Chapter 146: A Surprise Visitor

Elys and Aleksander sat in their thrones for nearly three hours straight. Aleksander was the one making most of the decisions, so problems being probably as mundane as what Elys had seen from the Northern courts back then.

Occasionally, Elys did get to speak up when things were being directed her way, but mostly, the vampires that ca to the palace disregarded her.

’I really need to get their respect,’ she thought to herself.A

To ease her boredom, Elys looked out for any telltale signs of the ladies she had previously talked to last night. They were nowhere in sight, and she had been quite uneasy with the absence of them thereof.

Cordelia was amongst the crowd, and although she was Elys’ most trusted out of all the people inside the room, a maidservant was only allowed to stand several paces away from the throne.

Things would have been a whole lot different if they had been in the North. Cordelia was a proud noble, and she would have been serving Elys as her lady in waiting.

She could sense Elysianne’s unease as her eyes slowly darted from one end of the room to the other. Cordelia knew the young queen was expecting her ladies in waiting, but apparently, none of them have showed up so far.

’If only I can serve her the sa way a lady in waiting could,’ the old woman wished fervently. ’Why do we even have to abide with vampire laws and traditions, anyway?’

"What are you thinking?" Henry suddenly spoke beside her.

Cordelia’s eyes twitched for a second, the only sign she ever showed that ant she had been taken by surprise.

"Nothing," she automatically said, almost to the point of sounding too stiff with her words.

Henry raised a brow at the old woman and stood beside her in silence. He fished out his pocket watch and noted the ti. It was nearly midnight.

After another thirty minutes or more, the nobles and commoners who sought an audience with the King and Queen were all taken care of. Aleksander’s face was arguably irritated, but he kept his cool as Elys was beside him.

"You look tired, your majesty. Shall we end this now?" Marquis Lanz asked Aleksander.

As the appointed High Secretary, Marquis Lanz took it upon him to be by the King’s side whenever he sees that Aleksander was about to say sothing.

The apparent scowl that was forming in his face deed to be a bit concerning for the Marquis, that he imdiately walked towards the throne and whispered a question beside Aleksander’s ears.

"Are there anyone else?" the young king asked as he rubbed his temples.

Marquis Lanz peered into his list and then signaled towards the throne doors. A knight imdiately signaled back to him. The young vampire leaned forward and whispered in Aleksander’s ear the information relayed by the knight.

"There is but one man left, your majesty," Marquis Lanz whispered beside the young king. "He has waited since we have started four hours ago."

Aleksander heaved a silent, but heavy sigh. His hands were about to shake, and Elys noted his pale face has sowhat turned paler than usual. Her husband’s eye color was switching here and there, making her assu there was one thing that was the most probable explanation to it.

It seed like the King Aleksander Ardorlean needed, craved for fresh blood in his system.

"Bring him in, and make him hurry up," Aleksander said in a quick whisper.

"Let the man in," Marquis Lanz announced.

The doors opened once more, and a potbellied man trudged in with a limping foot. Elys and Cordelia’s eyes widened with shock to see the familiar man in front of them.

"Your majesty," Yobab bowed down, "It is an honor to have finally t you."

Aleksander scowled and snapped imdiately, "Get to business. I am not going to wait for your babble to stop. I don’t have the patience for you."

Elys reached out a hand to squeeze Aleksander’s, reminding him to calm down and be composed with the man.

Yobab smirked at the man and woman who sat at the throne in front of him. His eyes swept towards the human queen.

He was fully aware that she was the sa slave he had brought to the capital to be executed but was played by King Raxus as she married the bastard prince – now the reigning king.

Yobab still couldn’t believe that she had risen up from being a bastard prince’s wife which makes her technically a princess, now she has taken over the palace itself and called herself the kingdom’s queen!

It was a bit absurd to say the least. She was the sa specie as he was but he had always been in the muck and harsh lands of the enslavent camps.

"What do you co here for, sir?" Aleksander asked.

Yobab’s eyes darted for a second towards Elys’ throne, and her cold and nacing stares were enough to tie his tongue around. The Fat Pig couldn’t speak a word, and when he did try to, he only uttered incoherent words and stuttered for at most a minute.

"I am losing patience with you, sir," Aleksander sneered, his fangs baring at Yobab. "Get lost, you are just wasting my precious ti."

Marquis Lanz, noticing the bubbling anger from the king, called for the knights to take away Yobab.

"W-W-Wait! No! I c-c-ca here be-because - !" he called out, but the doors slamd shut on him and his muffled voice slowly faded as he was unceremoniously thrown out of the palace.

Aleksander was about to stand up, when all of a sudden, the door opened once more.

"Now what? I thought I already said to take that man away from my sight?!" he grumbled.

But as soon as the young king’s eyes looked up, he was dumbfounded by the face that showed up.

"Do you still have ti to speak with a visitor, your majesty?" a young man asked.

Aleksander’s eyes squinted, his fangs bared and his sharp nails digging into his chair’s armrest as he asked in reply, "How did you get in, Sir Noa?"
