216 Three Days

Zhao Zhan subconsciously looked at her reaction.

Jiaojiao’s eyes dropped slightly. She paused for a mont before she said softly, “Yang Dashan, don’t bla yourself. You didn’t cause Chengfeng to go missing.”

“Zhao Zhan and I didn’t stay at ho to take care of him well,” Jiaojiao said in a gentle voice. “What happened on the day Chengfeng went missing? Can you recall what happened?”

“Chengfeng has been missing for three days.

“When sothing happened in the village, Li Miao and I checked the door of your yard a million tis.” Yang Dashan said. Recently, he had been thinking about the days when Chengfeng would stroll and get lost.

“Three days ago, two wolves entered the village in broad daylight and must have bit Chengfeng.

“I heard Chengfeng’s wailing sound, so I carefully ran over to see what was wrong with him. I opened the door and Chengfeng imdiately ran out.

“He was too strong. I couldn’t stop him at all when he pushed

away. He was almost as strong as a tiger!”

Zhao Zhan silently rubbed his lover’s shoulder to comfort her. He looked at Yang Dashan’s back and asked, “Did you go up the mountain?”

“No one dares to go up the mountain right now,” Yang Dashan shook his head, “Lizheng has blocked the road up the mountain, but there are still straggler wolves that can run into the village. Our neighboring villages have piled up soil to block the road. Now, there is only one road to Wangshan. It’s blocked by our own people, so I know how to move it.”

This calamity of wolves appeared not long after Zhao Zhan and the others left.

At first, soone had heard the wolf’s howl in the middle of the night, but no one else in the village had heard it, so this matter did not attract everyone’s attention. Later, more and more people heard it, and Lizheng gathered everyone in the main hall.

That night, a wolf rushed down the mountain and rushed into Zhao Wencai’s house. In a panic, Zhao Wencai pushed her husband away, causing one of the wolves to bite off his hand.

Later on, the villagers discovered that wolves had broken into their courtyards, harming the poultry they kept at ho.

Lizheng’s family had not suffered any mishaps because their house was built firmly and was a little further away from the foot of the mountain. However, the villagers were in a state of panic when they heard this news. Soone spoke up and said that they had accidentally seen Zhao Zhan taking sothing from the mountain before he left.

It was said that Zhao Zhan had offended the mountain god.

Also, he had an odd animal at ho. Everyone said it was a dog… But whose dog would bark like this?

This kind of gossip spread more and more, and it caused fear and panic to seep into the villagers’ hearts. However, most of the villagers had a better life because of the silver that Zhao Zhan had given them. They were afraid, but at the sa ti, they restrained themselves and did not curse out loud.

It was only when a wolf started lurking around the village that rang the alarm in everyone’s mind.

Lizheng had no way to ask for help, so he could only ask Yang Dashan about Zhao Zhan’s whereabouts and then write to him, hoping that he could help.

When Zhao Zhan received the letter, he thought of the wolves that he had heard the people in the village ntion.

This wasn’t the first ti such a thing had happened in Willow Village, but now, the big guys in the village had always regarded it as a legend.

“When we received your letter, Lizheng organized us to stay in that house. At night, we would light a long line of fire in front of the house with straw.

“It was snowing heavily the day Chengfeng was lost. I followed his paw prints and found that he went up the mountain.”

The ox-cart stopped in front of the house.

“Yang Dashan, I’ll have to trouble you to let Lizheng know that I’ll be seeing him in a bit.” Zhao Zhan jumped off the ox cart and held Jiaojiao in his arms. “I’ll have to drop her ho first.”
