Lucas couldn’t prevent him from being softhearted when he saw Violet pleading him in this manner.

"Fine. However, only for a short while though," Lucas stated.

Lydia stared at Lucas helplessly.

Lucas then spotted Sylas who entered the house from the corner of his eyes and voiced out, "It would have been more effective if you made a bracelet for Alpha and convinced him. He could protect you better."

Violet pretended to have not heard his words and said, "I will go and take a bath. I am sweaty."

Following this, she rushed towards her room.

Then, feeling the pressure directed towards him, Lucas sat up straight. His eyes t with the solemn silver blue pair, and he gulped nervously.

The corner of Sylas’s lips curled up to form his amiable smile. But Lucas only felt more scared when he saw this.

"It seems I haven’t sparred with you for a long while, Lucas. Why don’t you co outside now?"

Violet thought about how she would be visiting Anna today. Since the child was anticipating to see her so badly, it would only be appropriate for her to prepare a little gift.

Violet pondered over what she could take for the child. Although the child enjoyed snacks, her low immunity restricted her to a strict diet.

What do kids of that age like?

Lucas went out to et few of his friends today, and Lydia had work to do. As for Sylas, Violet had no clue about him. Left alone, she had to think by herself.

Violet was distracted out of her thoughts by the sound of her phone ringing. Her brows furrowed, noticing the call ca from an unknown number.

Could it be a spam call?

Nonetheless, Violet received the call.

"Violet," the man’s voice reached into her ear.

Violet’s grip on her phone tightened, and her expression imdiately turned hostile. Although this house was a protected place, Violet had a negative feeling about the call.

"How did you get my number?" she coldly asked— her voice sounded defensive.

Mathew chuckled. "How do you think?"

This had her heart drop to the bottom of her drop in anxiety. All the possible scenarios ran through her mind. Since Mathew sounded so confident, there must be sothing wrong.

"If you don’t have anything to say, I will hang up," Violet said, not willing to indulge him.

But before she was able to cut off the call, Mathew spoke out, "If you keep on being this impatient, I will think that the life of your little friend doesn’t matter anymore."

"W-What?" Violet stuttered. Her heart tightened.

Next ca the panicked voice of Anna. "You bad man, what are you doing? Let go of ! My dad will beat you up once he catches you! He will send you to the— mmm."

Her voice ca out muffled at end.

Violet’s head stopped processing for a second, and nausea welled up within her.

"Mathew, what the fuck are you doing!? Let go of her! She is an innocent human child! Don’t bring her into this!" Violet shouted desperately.

Mathew only laughed. "It seems I was right to have brought her here. Violet, I will give you two options now. Either you can continue to hide away or you can co here to rescue your little friend. What do you think?"

Violet was instantly about to contact Lucas and the rest when Mathew’s next words made her pause.

"I know that the house is empty. I will give you twenty minutes to arrive at the location. Even if you’re a second late, your friend’s life will be gone," threatened Mathew.

The next instant the location was texted to Violet.

Violet realized that even if she texted Lucas and Lydia, there was no way they would be able to arrive in ti as they were in the human land. Mathew planned it quite carefully.

However, Violet had no ti to waste. She couldn’t selfishly allow Mathew to take Anna’s life.

Her eyes then fell on one contact.

Sylas.

She hesitated for a second, confused on whether or not to contact him. Violet bit down on her lower lip and made a call to him.

Even if she was a bother, this wasn’t about her life only. Anna was in danger now.

Seeing how the call didn’t get received by Alpha, she could only leave a ssage to inform him of the situation. There was no ti for her to waste as she hurried towards the location.

There was desperation visible on her face while Violet rushed through the dense forest. She tripped a few tis and scraped her skin at few places, but that did not concern her.

The place Mathew ntioned was once special to her. One ti, Mathew saw her curiosity for the land outside the pack, and in order to please her, he sneaked along with her outside of the the pack.

However, Violet’s dad caught on soon, and in the midst of their escape, they discovered a cave. That day they hid in the cave, so that they didn’t get caught. Ever since then, this beca a place for romantic getaway for both of them.

There were countless mories they created here, but now, standing in front of the sa scene, there was only disgust brewing within her. All the mories she had with him felt like a dark mark in her life.

"You’re here quite fast. I was looking forward to having more fun with this little girl."

As Violet caught her knees, heaving to catch her breath, she raised her head to find Mathew standing there. In his hand was Anna.

The little girl had tears in her frightened eyes, staring at Violet like her savior. Mud and dirt covered the girl, and her appearance was untidy. Violet’s eyes narrowed on the bruise on her face.

She then glared at Mathew.

"You hit her!" Violet exclaid.

Mathew shrugged his shoulder. "Well, she was making a lot of trouble. I needed to calm her down."

Seeing this only made Violet feel heartache.

Violet clenched her hand into a tight fist and spat, "Let go of her now that I am here. She is just a human child. There’s no need for you to hurt her!"

The corner of Mathew’s lips curved upwards.

"Co over here, and I will let go of her," Mathew said.

Although Violet doubted the sincerity of his words, she cautiously made her way over to him. Once she stood about a foot or two away from him, Mathew had a sinister look cross through his eyes before he tightly pressed Anna’s neck, making the poor girl struggle against his grip.

"Since you made suffer for so long, it would only be unfair to if I don’t charge any interest."

Violet grew enraged at that.

She instantly jumped forward, grabbing on to Anna, while her other hand flung a small ball towards Mathew. While that exploded on Mathew’s face, covering his vision and breathing, Violet coughed, running away from there with Anna.

Violet was glad she rembered to pick up the sample explosive Lucas made the other day. Although it wasn’t anything potent, at least it would keep Mathew at bay.

"You, bitch! You will be done for! Don’t think that you will be able to escape!"

Violet realized she celebrated too soon when she found herself being surrounded by a group of werewolves from all sides. Violet grew tense as they howled, slowly inching closer to her.

Although she was scared at heart, looking at Anna who tightly held on to her, frozen in terror, Violet grew more confidence.

She reached out for her skirt’s pocket and took out her treasured gun. Her face looked grave, as she pointed the gun towards Mathew.

"I will shoot if you don’t stop," threatened Violet.

Although her aim was still far from perfect, she maintained her composure. Her usually childish and round hazel eyes turned bold and sharp, showing her intent of protecting child.

Seeing the gun, the werewolves surrounding her took a step back cautiously. Mathew frowned.

"Attack her! There’s no way that gun works. She is only fooling us!"

Just as the werewolves were about to move, Violet held the gun in both of her hand and pulled the trigger. Her hands trembled a little. The bullet fell on the ground right in front of Mathew, imdiately causing him to take a step backwards.

"If you don’t want the next bullet to go through your head, Mathew, step back," Violet warned. She felt proud of herself when she saw the signs of fear on Mathew’s face.
