A mont later, all the players were back to start the second half. The ho team’s players were still eyeing them with their hungry gazes, as if they wanted to devour the whole Hakodate Nishi team alive. Honestly, whatever their head coach said during the break should work, since they were more motivated than ever.
Higo himself took a deep breath, wanting to calm down his nerves. He could hear quite clearly the whispers from people around, and it would be a lie if the boy said that it didn’t disturb him.
"Just look at him! He is so short, how could he be their goalkeeper?"
"Tch! At least, he is still better than that useless stern captain! Who is he trying to pretend to look cool, their head coach? Shaless!"
"Psst! Don’t say it that loud, they would hear what you said!"
The last part was just full of mockery, since they were sure Higo could read it from his spot. He just clenched his fist tightly, though, not wanting to show any reaction. The boy knew that once he made a move, they would only retaliate further, so silence was truly golden here.
Honestly, though, the ho team’s supporters here started to get under his skin. They didn’t say or boo the players on the pitch brutally, but only whispering quite loudly to the point that anyone getting close to the sideline could hear their sarcastic remark. It also helped that their place was so close to the pitch, doubling the intensity of whatever they were saying here.
This also made their number look far more than the reality. Higo was so sure that there should be fewer than 100 people around, and yet, they spread in so of the best places around, making it look like the entire pitch was full. This gave a troubleso psychological burden for the team, making them nervous unconsciously.
’Damn, how could they engage in such a small, dirty trick like this?’ Higo sneered in disgust.
It seed Makino also noticed his current state, as the captain approached him and asked, "Anything wrong, Chibi?"
"Nah, don’t worry, just flies buzzing straight to my ears." The goalkeeper shook his head strongly. "Anyway, the second half is about to start. Get ready, and don’t let anyone slip. You have been performing badly in our last two gas; you’d better start making up, Te!" He said, pushing the captain back to the defensive area.
The captain himself felt the corner of his lips twitching madly at that. Unfortunately, he had no room to complain, since Higo’s words held so truth here. Not so, even, but probably a massive one.
He didn’t really do anything in the last two gas, just making mistakes left and right. It was so fortunate that Higo was on the back, giving the team reassurance that everything was going to be alright.
It was also what Higo did in today’s ga. He didn’t chat a lot except when he was instructing soone or praising the others, and yet, his re presence was enough to let the others breathe relaxedly, knowing that soone would hold the sky even if it had to fall.
Still, while Makino could praise his friend here, he was still a normal teenager, and his youthful spirit would never allow him to stay still when Higo was trying to fly.
’At least, I have to do better than in the first half.’ He cracked his head gently, trying to recall what he had to fix next. ’The communication line should be better, and my decision-making is too slow. I cannot hesitate even for a second, or I would be punished later. No, everything has to be perfect today.’
While he was in the middle of his contemplation, the referee started to check everyone on the pitch, and the mont all of them gave a nod here, the old man in the middle of the pitch didn’t hesitate, blowing the whistle imdiately.
FWEEE!
"Shit! The second half is about to begin?!"
"Hey, don’t push around! Just watch from your spot!"
"Nori-sama! Do your best today!"
The crowd went buzzing the mont the referee blew the whistle. However, the kickoff started from Hakodate Nishi’s side right now, so that ant they were going to take the initiative with their usual blitzkrieg attack.
"Without Takaaki on the pitch, that ans Kazawa has to take over. His passing preference is... There!"
Hiroshi gritted his teeth as he rushed as quickly as possible toward the space between the two of the opponent’s midfielders. Unlike Takaaki, who liked to give a high ball to the tallest striker to initiate the attack, Kazawa’s thod was a little bit more sophisticated. He liked to pass it to the empty space and forced his teammates to chase the ball, letting everything flow naturally.
The opponent seed to have already prepared for this. One player followed Hiroshi tightly, while the others were also trying to shut down Hakodate Nishi’s attackers in another place.
However, Hiroshi didn’t even blink here.
With how tight the opponent’s marking was, it was so easy for him to escape this defense. He just backheeled the ball gently, passing it to Denji, who rushed to the middle without even looking. The older twin got the ball easily, and with Hiroshi attracting so much traffic on his side, Denji had an open space right now, running straight to the heart of the opponent’s defense.
"Oh! Yes, Denji! Co here!"
"Brother, get ready!"
"Keep eyes on everyone! Don’t let them get the ball!"
Yuji and Denki ran simultaneously, but the opponent’s defense also reacted accordingly. They went to shut down all the passing routes, giving Denji no option but to take action here. Or... At least that was what they thought.
Denji saw the other possibility, though. Just in a split second, where every angle to pass was covered, he caught a glimpse of inspiration out of nowhere, and without hesitation, he took his chance for a shot.
’If you don’t let
pass it, I can just take it by myself, right?’
BAM!
And after that, chaos broke out on the pitch.
