The world around Shinon slowly ca into focus as he regained consciousness. However, as soon as he opened his eyes, he was blinded.
It took him a while to adjust to the harsh, blaring light. But when he did, he found himself secured to a chair in a glaringly white room.
It was pristine, almost blinding, and seed to have been designed to negate any potential use of Shinon’s shadowsmith abilities. The room was so brilliantly lit that not even his own shadow could be found anywhere in the room.
The light was flooding in from the ceiling, the walls,s and even the floor. Not an inch of space was left for any shadow to be cast, which ant Shinon had no way of using shadowmancy in the room.
"What... is going on... here?" Shinon weakly mumbled.
His body felt strangely numb, as if he was given an anaesthetic or sothing. Even his mind felt hazy as he struggled to put the pieces together.
The last thing he rembered was his fight with the Eclipse Leader and using the rocket launcher to get rid of the alpha zombies. Then he heard sothing before blacking out.
At first, Shinon thought maybe one of the zombies managed to survive and struck him. But it seed impossible because the zombie would have attacked him from the front if that had been the case.
Shinon’s thoughts then went towards his father. It was possible that while he was busy dealing with the Eclipse Leader, his father slipped in and hit him in the head.
While at first Shinon wanted to dismiss the fact, he realised his father wasn’t the man he thought he was. As such, he couldn’t deny the possibility that his father indeed did sothing to him.
The thought still felt a bit farfetched to him when he noticed soone beside him. To his side, also strapped to a chair, was Kira.
The haziness of his mind promptly disappeared as soon as he saw Kira there. Shinon struggled to free himself from his binds, but in his weakened state, there wasn’t much he could have done other than check on Kira.
Thankfully, there were no signs of injuries on her body as far as Shinon could see her. But Shinon still wondered why she was there.
If the Eclipse caught soone, Shinon expected it would be Rico or Lova, who had joined him in the mission. After all, Kira had decided to stay back in the settlent unless she had decided to follow them and got caught while trying to sneak in.
"Fuck... Kira," Shinon mumbled, shaking his head. "Why couldn’t you just stay behind!"
Still, Shinon found solace in the fact that she was unhard. However, the mont of peace didn’t last long.
While Shinon was looking towards Kira, the concealed doors leading into the room slid open, revealing Miro and Caleb walking in together. Miro smiled as if they expected Shinon to act surprised, but Shinon didn’t.
After all, Shinon already suspected Miro to have so movent in the business before venturing inside the facility. To top it off, when Shinon discovered his father standing alongside the Eclipse Leader, he knew Miro also had to be one of them.
But sothing did catch him off-guard. It was the way his father was moving around Miro. It almost mimicked the relationship between a boss and his assistant.
Shinon had been expecting his father to be the top dog of their zombie-farming venture, but it seed Miro was the one pulling the strings instead.
Shinon now knew for certain why Miro had been so insistent on deterring him from investigating the facility. It wasn’t just about keeping Shinon in the dark about the Eclipse’s true objective, but to ensure he didn’t beco a hindrance to them and their plans.
It would also make sense why Miro was always so hellbent on those ’rescue’ missions and saving unfortunate slaves when there were more pressing concerns.
Miro just wanted Shinon to remain preoccupied so the Eclipse could carry out their true plans without any issues, while at the sa ti, he sent so ’spies’ in the guise of rescuing people to the settlents that Shinon had so influence over.
In other words, Miro had been playing Shinon like a fiddle, and Shinon never doubted his intentions. Not until it was too late. Now, there he was, helplessly strapped to a chair right in front of his enemies, and the entire settlent was in danger of being swallowed by Miro.
The closer Shinon thought he was to Eclipse, the farther he got from them, and it wasn’t until the very end that Shinon realised he never was a threat to them. Just an inconvinience.
"You don’t look surprised," Miro smirked, taking a seat before Shinon. "Then again, you seed to have been doubting recently. Unfortunately for you, you only doubted because I wanted you to."
Saying so, Miro got up and wrapped his arm around Caleb’s shoulder before continuing. "Just imagine why would I blow my cover all of a sudden? I an, I had you wrapped around my fingers, so why would I give it all up?"
"To get rid of ? To use your sleeper cells, throw the settlent in disarray, and eliminate everyone who could oppose you?" Shinon sarcastically replied.
Miro jumped excitedly before supping his hands around Shinon’s cheeks, "Yes! I knew you would get it!"
Slowly, Miro regained his composure and sighed. Shinon could only imagine what kind of twisted thoughts were going through Miro’s mind when the latter spoke his thoughts out loud.
"Fear is the greatest weapon one could wield against humanity," Miro mumbled. "It makes people do things that are out of character, both for them and for those around, and I wanted control over fear."
He continued, "But how? Then, those zombies appeared a decade ago, and I saw every panic like never before. It then hit . If I could control the undead, I would control the world, and now my dream is turning into reality! And no one can stop ! No one but... YOU!"
