Wang Cheng never expected to appear before the police in such an embarrassing state.

When he realized he was surrounded, the buzz-cut man hurriedly pulled up his pants, not caring whether Wang Cheng was exposed or not, and used him as a human shield.

At that mont, Wang Cheng was forced to face the police, standing tall and proud like a little eagle, but he was so mortified that he wished he could crawl into a hole.

To make matters worse, there were female police officers present. Seeing this scene, they all struggled to suppress their laughter, blushing as they turned their heads away.

"You damn cops, listen up! I have a hostage! If you don't back off right now, I'll kill him on the spot!"

The buzz-cut man roared viciously at Lan Gang and the officers.

But Lan Gang only responded with a cold smile and gestured with his hand.

Before the buzz-cut man could even react—

Bang!

A sniper, who had already taken position on a high vantage point, pulled the trigger, delivering a clean headshot.

The higher-ups had already given their orders.

This criminal had massacred an entire family, showing no humanity, not even sparing a months-old infant.

Before leaving, he had even written taunting ssages to the police in blood on the walls.

A ruthless criminal like him had no need for a fair trial. If he resisted even slightly, he was to be executed on sight.

Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere. The buzz-cut man was still standing, but he was already dead.

anwhile, Wang Cheng was now covered in blood, and so brain matter had even splattered into his mouth.

"Ugh—"

Wang Cheng imdiately started vomiting uncontrollably.

Then, glancing at the headless corpse beside him, he rembered how this man had just been tornting him monts ago.

After all, there was a saying: "One night as a couple, a hundred days of grace"—cough, too far.

Less than a second ago, this man had been alive, and now he was just a lifeless corpse.

Wang Cheng couldn't take it anymore. His eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

Seeing this, Lan Gang waved his hand. "Bring the ambulance up. Get the hostage to the hospital and check for any injuries."

Once the situation was handled, Lan Gang turned to Qi Lin with great interest.

"You're Qi Lin, right? You've got so impressive skills. Even with so many officers around, you still managed to sneak up behind unnoticed."

Qi Lin rubbed his nose and chuckled. "I just ss around and practice at ho. You’re giving too much credit, Uncle Lan."

Lan Gang smiled. "No need to be modest. You should know that just now, you helped the police capture the most notorious criminal in Jianghan City. Starting tomorrow, you'll be the city's little hero. Tell , how do you feel about that?"

"How do I feel?"

Qi Lin had guts—seriously big guts.

Lan Gang was the captain of the criminal investigation unit, a man who could command a sniper to blow soone's head off with just a gesture.

"Uncle Lan, I want to date your daughter. What do you think?"

Qi Lin scratched the back of his head, looking a little shy.

"Pfft!"

Lan Gang had been expecting so humble and reflective words from Qi Lin.

Instead, he nearly choked on his own breath when he heard this shaless request.

His colleagues behind him had also been eager to hear what the young hero had to say.

But when they heard that he wanted to date the captain’s daughter—

"Hahahaha!"

They couldn't hold back anymore, bursting into laughter, clutching their stomachs, barely able to breathe.

At the sa ti, they gave Qi Lin a thumbs-up.

This kid had guts!

Captain Lan was known as the "Iron-Faced King of Hell" at the police station, always cold and intimidating. No one dared to cross him.

Yet Qi Lin had the audacity to say to his face that he wanted to date his daughter.

He was the first.

"You've got balls, kid. If it weren’t for the fact that you helped us capture a major criminal, I’d put a bullet in your head myself."

Lan Gang scolded him, though his tone carried a hint of amusent.

Despite his harsh words, he couldn’t help but admire Qi Lin’s boldness.

This kid had guts and brains.

He had found the criminal's hideout when the police had been searching for a week with no results.

He wasn’t afraid of Lan Gang’s imposing presence, speaking his mind without hesitation.

It reminded Lan Gang of his younger self.

"Could it be that Yuxi has been secretly dating this kid behind my back?"

"Well… he’s barely acceptable. But if she broke my rule about dating only after college, she’s got another thing coming."

Lan Gang smirked inwardly.

"You were the one who told to speak my mind, Uncle Lan. Yuxi is so beautiful—it’s only natural to want to date her. If liking your daughter is a cri, then you might as well just shoot now."

Qi Lin straightened his back, looking fearless.

Lan Gang was so angry that he actually laughed.

"You've got guts, I'll give you that. Forget class this afternoon. Co to the station with . Let’s see what you’re really made of, daring to chase after Yuxi so young."

Of course, Qi Lin knew Lan Gang was joking.

This was a major case, and since he was involved, he had to go to the station to provide a statent.

And so, while Wang Cheng was taken away in an ambulance, Qi Lin got into Lan Gang’s police car and headed to the station.

anwhile, at school…

"Lan Yuxi, do you know where your deskmate went?"

Neither Qi Lin nor Wang Cheng had shown up for afternoon classes.

Qi Lin wasn’t particularly close with anyone in class.

So, Qiu Yuelin turned her attention to Lan Yuxi.

Lan Yuxi forced a wry smile. "He didn’t tell anything. I don’t know where he went."

"What about Qi Lin? You seem pretty close with him."

Qiu Yuelin asked again.

At the sa ti, she thought to herself, "I just praised this guy this morning, and now he’s skipping class. Looks like turning him into a responsible student is going to take a long ti."

Hearing Qiu Yuelin say she was close to Qi Lin, Lan Yuxi’s face instantly turned red.

Ugh, who was close with that scoundrel?!

It was all his fault for dragging her up on stage this morning to accept an award. Now the whole school thought there was sothing between them.

"I have no idea where Qi Lin went either."

Actually, Lan Yuxi was quite puzzled herself.

If only Wang Cheng had disappeared, she wouldn’t have thought much of it.

But Qi Lin was gone too.

Could Wang Cheng have challenged Qi Lin to a duel?

The thought sent a chill down her spine.

What if they really fought? What if soone got seriously hurt?

For the rest of the afternoon, Lan Yuxi couldn’t focus on class. She kept glancing at Qi Lin’s empty seat.

Wait… why was she looking at his seat and not Wang Cheng’s?

She didn’t even know the answer herself.

After school, Lan Yuxi walked ho, deeply worried.

Neither Qi Lin nor Wang Cheng had shown up all day.

She took the bus ho, and not long after arriving, she received a call from her father, Lan Gang.

"Yuxi, do you have a classmate nad Qi Lin?"

Lan Gang’s first words startled her.

A crazy thought popped into her head.

Had that troublemaker Qi Lin done sothing illegal and gotten caught by her dad?

Knowing her father’s zero-tolerance attitude toward cri, for the first ti ever, she felt a little worried for Qi Lin.

"Wait, what am I thinking?! That scoundrel bullies every day. If he really got arrested, I should be celebrating! Why am I even worried about him?!"

Shaking off her chaotic thoughts, she quickly asked, "Dad, how do you know Qi Lin? Did he get in trouble? Did you arrest him?"

Hearing the concern in her voice, Lan Gang’s heart skipped a beat.

Damn it! Could it be that my daughter really has sothing going on with this brat?

After bringing Qi Lin to the police station, Lan Gang thought the serious atmosphere would intimidate him.

But he had underestimated Qi Lin’s ntal resilience.

After completing his statent, this brat sat on the office sofa, casually sipping tea and reading the newspaper. Whenever soone walked in, regardless of their rank, he greeted them with a friendly smile.

It was as if he had made himself right at ho in the police station.

Even the police chief chuckled when he saw Qi Lin, teasing Lan Gang, "Is this your foolish son? This kid is just as rebellious as you were in your younger days."

"Yeah, yeah! This kid's in big trouble now. I’ve already detained him at the station," Lan Gang grumbled, feeling like his precious daughter had been stolen away by this punk.

However, Lan Yuxi didn’t realize he was joking.

Thinking that Qi Lin had really been arrested, she felt a wave of frustration.

"This bastard has always been reckless, but he's careful and smart when he does things. If he wanted to do sothing shady, fine—but how could he be careless enough to get caught by my dad?"

Thinking about the interrogation thods her father used on criminals, she couldn’t sit still any longer.

"Dad, I… I haven’t visited you at work for a long ti. I’ll co over now."

With that, she hung up the phone.

"Beep… beep… beep…"

Listening to the dial tone, Lan Gang was stunned.

"She wouldn’t actually believe and co all the way here to rescue this brat, would she?"

Half an hour later—

Bang!

The door to Lan Gang’s office swung open.

Lan Yuxi rushed in, her face full of worry. "Dad, what exactly did Qi Lin do? Did you really lock him up?"

Behind her, Qi Lin was lounging on the sofa with his legs crossed, sipping tea, looking utterly baffled as he watched her.

First of all, he hadn’t expected Lan Yuxi to rush all the way here.

Second, was she blind? He was sitting right behind her, yet she was still asking where he was.

Third, was sothing wrong with her head? He had just helped crack a major case and was about to beco a hero in Jianghan City. Where did she get the idea that he had been arrested?

You’re the one who got locked up! Your whole family got locked up!

Lan Gang, caught between amusent and exasperation, rolled his eyes and pointed behind her. "He’s guilty of the cri of early romance. I’ve detained him right here in my office."

"Huh?"

Lan Yuxi blinked in confusion.

Turning around, she t Qi Lin’s deadpan stare.

For a mont, she stood there, dumbfounded.

"You’re not going anywhere. Stay put until I say you can leave."

Lan Gang snapped at Qi Lin.

Then he looked at Lan Yuxi and said, "Co with . I have so questions for you."

"Oh…"

With her strict father giving the order, Lan Yuxi didn’t dare disobey. Pouting, she followed him out into the hallway.

"Tell the truth—when did you two start dating?"

Lan Gang’s first question completely caught her off guard.

"Dad, what are you talking about? Who am I dating?"

She looked at him in confusion.

Seeing how convincing her act was, Lan Gang kept a serious expression. "I already know about your early romance. Are you going to confess, or do you want to wait until we get ho for so discipline?"

His words sent a chill down her spine.

At the sa ti, she misunderstood the situation.

"Damn it! Did Qi Lin actually tell him about my deal with Wang Cheng?"

"Ugh! I knew I shouldn’t have felt sorry for him and co here to help!"

"I forgave him for bullying in the past, and what does he do? He sells out imdiately!"

Seeing her lower her head without responding, Lan Gang thought he had hit the mark.

"So, silence ans agreent. I was wondering why Qi Lin suddenly told he wanted to date you. Turns out, you two have been seeing each other behind my back this whole ti."

"What?!"

Lan Yuxi was completely dumbfounded.

This wasn’t about Wang Cheng?

It was about Qi Lin wanting to date her?!

Her face turned red as she hesitantly asked, "Dad, he really said that? And you brought him to the police station just because of that?"

Lan Gang scoffed. "You think I’d lie to you?"

Not bothering to drag it out any further, he explained what had happened—how Qi Lin had provided the police with the murderer’s hideout and made the crucial call that led to the criminal’s death.

Lan Yuxi had heard about the case.

Her father had been obsessed with it, losing sleep and skipping als. He had even lost a few pounds.

Hearing that the case was finally solved, she bead with joy. Her eyes sparkled with admiration as she looked at Lan Gang.

"Dad, you’re amazing! I knew there wasn’t a case in this world you couldn’t solve. When the news cos out tomorrow, you’ll be the hero of Jianghan City!"

But instead of being proud, Lan Gang gave a bitter smile.

"Actually, you’re wrong this ti. I wasn’t the one who solved this case. Rember how you just asked why I brought Qi Lin here?"

Lan Yuxi wasn’t slow—she imdiately understood what he was implying.

Her beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.

"Dad… are you saying Qi Lin was the one who caught the murderer?"

Lan Gang chuckled. "He didn’t capture him personally, but close enough. He found the murderer’s hideout, called the police, and led us to the scene. We handled the rest."

Lan Yuxi was stunned.

So that was why Qi Lin had been absent all afternoon—he had been out solving a major case and helping her father!

As the daughter of a police officer, she understood how much this case ant to him.

Cracking it might even earn her father a promotion to deputy chief.

And if she wasn’t mistaken, anyone who provided key intel to the police was entitled to a 100,000 yuan reward and the honorary title of "Courageous Citizen."

Compared to those honors, the award Qi Lin received at school earlier was nothing.

Once the news spread, he would beco a city-wide hero.

"Now that you know your little boyfriend is safe and actually a hero, you can relax, right?"

Seeing the uncontrollable smile on her face, Lan Gang teased her.

Her face instantly turned bright red. She stomped her foot in frustration.

"Dad! It’s not like that! Qi Lin is just a troublemaker! He does nothing but annoy all day. How could I possibly like him?"

But Lan Gang had been young once—he knew exactly what was going on.

Her shy, flustered expression exposed everything.

His face grew serious. "That kid has potential, I won’t deny that. I actually quite admire him. But rember, you’re both still students. Holding hands and kissing, I won’t stop you. But if you cross the line before college, I’ll be the first to break that brat’s legs."

"Pfft!"

Lan Yuxi was dumbfounded.

What did he an by that?

Was he… giving his silent approval for them to date?

But she wasn’t even dating Qi Lin!

And what was all that about holding hands and kissing?!

If Qi Lin heard this, he’d be over the moon.

Didn’t this basically an he had a free pass to tease her whenever he wanted?!
