"Tell why I shouldn’t kill you right now?" Ian asked as he loaded the bullets into his gun.
"Because you are kind?" Owen answered. His panic grew as Ian started to point the gun in his direction. "Because there will be no one to greet Scarlet and escort her to your office like I do."
"Any idiot could lead her here," Ian said, keeping the gun pointed. "What did I do to deserve being stuck with you?"
"You saved my life and I didn’t ask you to do that," Owen replied, rembering how they t. He was close to dying and Ian was pissed off about sothing which led to him shooting Owen’s attacker.
Owen continued, "I still rember how I tried to run and you fired a warning shot to get to stop."
Ian looked up at Owen, wondering what he ant by a warning shot. That was one of the few tis he had missed his shot. He didn’t want any survivors at that ti but then Owen started to ramble on and on about Ian owning his life.
Years later, Ian was still here with a mouthy fool who would not stop entering his ho and eating all his food.
One shot could end that right now.
"W-Wait! You tasked with looking for a new ho for you, rember? One that is less of a long ride to Scarlet’s estate. I am almost done with getting it. Tell honestly," Owen said, no longer worried about the gun pointed at him.
If Ian wanted to kill him, he would be bleeding away right now.
"Are you moving because you believe that place is haunted? I did a bit of reading- Why do you look so surprised?" Owen asked because of Ian’s raised brow. "I can read. I might not have had fancy schooling but it was sothing. Anyway, I looked into it and Scarlet’s family is quite involved with that ho. No wonder she wouldn’t want to visit you."
Ian lowered the gun as Owen was finally saying sothing important. "What do you an?"
"It’s interesting. Her great-grandfather-"
Owen was upset by a knock on the door ruining his storytelling. He was so close to getting Ian to get out of that haunted place as soon as possible. "Who is it now?" He asked, going to the door to see the one to disturb him.
Ian put away his gun as it couldn’t be Scarlet coming to visit him right now as he had inford her that he would be busy. It could be the town guards coming to ask about Robert again.
Ian was in for a treat as it was none other than the man who made it possible for him to be near Scarlet.
"Should I let him in?" Owen asked.
"He’s travelled all the way here so it would be wrong not to entertain him for a mont," Ian replied. "Do not disturb us."
Jack was already angered just by seeing Ian before him. He still couldn’t believe that this was the man Scarlet was choosing to keep by her side. Was she that lonely? "You know who I am?" He asked.
"I rember that woman you have purposely bumped into Scarlet at the ball. Jake Humphrey, isn’t it?" Ian answered.
Jack glared at Ian for the intentional mix-up of his na. "Jack Humphrey."
"Right. You aren’t on the list of people I care to rember nas for so forgive if I mix it up from ti to ti. What do I owe the pleasure of you coming to ?" Ian asked, enjoying his current predicant.
Ian knew that Jack would visit him at so point because he was aware that Jack still loved Scarlet.
"You should know why I am here. You have been around my wife-"
"I have no interest in that simple woman you keep by your side," Ian interjected. He was offended by being told he was around Beth. "Oh," Ian smiled as he realised the mistake Jack made. "Have you forgotten that you are divorced?"
"It’s a little embarrassing for you to walk in here and refer to Scarlet as your wife," Ian added.
"She will always be my wife. I will always protect her from the likes of you," Jack said, his hand itching to reach for the gun in his coat.
"From the likes of ? Have you forgotten about your affair? Why wouldn’t she need to be protected from the likes of you?" Ian wondered. In this short ti, Ian had a good idea of the kind of man Jack was and he agreed even more that Jack had found the woman who suited him.
"Do not try to ddle in my business with her!" Jack raised his voice.
Ian sat unphased by Jack getting loud with him. It might work for those who worked under Jack to get them to fear and want to obey him, but not with Ian. "Is it normal for you to throw such a tantrum?"
"How much would it take for you to leave her? I know that you are only after her wealth," Jack said, ready to get the paynt started before he could do sothing he wouldn’t regret. "I can give you anything you need. You can have a better life than serving drunks."
"Whatever I want? Very well. I want your life," Ian answered.
"What?" Jack asked, startled by the answer. He was to get a price not be asked for his life. "Don’t be absurd. Na your price and you shall have it by the end of the day."
"Your family has so wealth to it so your life is quite expensive. Give it to ," Ian answered again. "If I was around Scarlet with the intention of using her, what makes you think I would leave her for what you are offering ?"
Jack took Ian’s answer to him admitting that he wanted to use Scarlet. He reached into his coat as he started walking toward Ian.
Ian pulled out his gun from where he had it hidden on his lap. "Now, now. I don’t want to stain this floor with blood. You’re a little too close to the chair Scarlet likes to sit on. Then again, no chairs an another place for her to sit on."
"You fucking bastard," Jack muttered under his breath. He took his hand off his gun seeing that Ian had one. ’"You’ll get nothing from being with her. She will always be a woman that belongs to . Get away from her side now when I am being nice."
"I don’t care what you are feeling. Do as you wish," Ian challenged Jack. "Whatever you do to try to get from her side, hope that it kills . Now, run back ho to the woman who is said to have your child."
"Ha," Jack laughed. He was going to enjoy killing the man before him. "You’ll regret not taking the money. You’re unwanted by the Kingsleys. By your own father and not welcod in this town. You’re nothing more than a bastard brought about by a woman who sought to raise her status."
"Yet Scarlet wants and knowing that has brought you here. Now, isn’t that sothing?" Ian asked.
