"Maybe you should wait outside for a mont and then co in soti after so my mother doesn’t see you imdiately. Her reaction would be far better then."
"You want to help scare your mother? I would like to ruin a happy reunion after you were out all night. Go on," Ian replied, agreeing to wait outside for his turn.
There was nothing like hearing Layla yell and break down early in the morning.
"They must be at breakfast right now or since I spent the night out, mother will be near the door. You’ll know when I found her by her screams as she scolds ," Victor said and then pushed the front door open.
He knew he was walking into a screaming match because he had not told his mother about spending the night out and did not call. Ian’s arrival might take the focus off of him or put it back as he would be scolded again for bringing Ian back here.
"You have so nerve to just walk in here after having worried sick about you all night long. Not a call or even sending soone to let know that you are fine. What were you thinking, Victor?" Layla questioned, standing up from the chair she had placed at the bottom of the stairs. "I have been waiting for you all night."
"You should have gotten so rest, mother. It is not like I went out to war. I only spent the night outside," said Victor.
"You certainly have lost your damn mind. All of the n here are losing their minds. While you were out enjoying yourself, your father spoke of sending away. Had you been here, you could have talked so sense into him. Co here," Layla held out her hand to Victor.
Victor looked at her hand. He was not falling for her usual trap. "I am not coming to you. Your husband wants to send you away. I didn’t have to be here to fix your problems. As grown as I am, I am still the child in your marital problems. Leave out of it."
Victor had played the role of diator too many tis. He shouldn’t have to be the one who stepped in when his parents were fighting. They had used him to get each other to do as they wanted for far too long.
"So, you would sit by and watch as he puts out of here-"
"Why should I get involved and ask him to let you stay? If he loves you it would not cross his mind to get rid of you. Why would you want to stay where soone doesn’t want you, mother?" Victor asked.
"This is my ho as much as it has been his. I am not going anywhere and it is a great sha that my son would not stand up for . I don’t like who you have beco these days. Ever since that boy ca back, you have been acting odd and I don’t like it. Co here!" Layla raised her voice.
Victor needed a good talk to get so sense back in his head. Everything was right before him but he could lose it all if he didn’t focus.
"What is with all this yelling so early in the morning?" Hank inquired as he walked down the stairs.
He had told Layla to drop this but of course, she was lecturing Victor.
"Had fun?"
"Yes, father," Victor replied.
"Good. All you have to do next ti is give us a little heads-up that you will not be attending dinner. It saves ti from having your seat set up. We can have a drink and talk about what you are to do today. I have so friends to visit so you should co along," Hank said, pushing his way between Victor and Layla to end their conversation.
Layla couldn’t believe Hank was just skipping over the fact that Victor was gone all night and didn’t care to ask where he had been. "Am I truly the only sane person here? Why aren’t you- What the hell is he doing here?"
Ian rolled up the sleeves of his shirt as walked inside. "It was getting a little bit too cold out there. I would like to say that everything in here looks the sa but I don’t have too many mories of the big house."
Layla thought her lack of sleep had her seeing sothing wrong for a mont but then she heard Ian’s voice and jumped. He was never to be inside the big house. Not even the cottage was sowhere he could be. "Get out!" She pointed to the door.
"It’s about ti that you showed up here," Hank spoke over Layla. Now was not the ti for her antics. He had failed ti after ti to get Ian to co here. He would not have her ruin that. "You’re just in ti to have sothing ward up for you to eat."
"It is a kind offer but I must decline the food," Ian answered. He liked food that wasn’t poisoned.
He wouldn’t accept water from them even if his body was on fire. One poisoned son was enough.
Layla quickly got over her shock and started to walk Ian’s way but Hank grabbed her hand. "Let go of . I will not sit by and let you welco your bastard here. This is why you spoke of that nonsense last night, isn’t it? Both of you were planning this behind my back."
Hank had been planning to bring Ian here and Victor kept her in the dark. It was why he stayed out last night. Victor was the one to escort Ian here.
"Ha. The two of you certainly know how to betray soone loyal to you. I will not sit around in the sa ho as my husband’s bastard. I will not stand for this!" Layla declared.
It was insulting for Hank to allow this. Was it because she pointed out the truth about how he failed as a father? Was this his way of suddenly trying to as though he cared for Ian? It was a little too late for that.
"I’m sure you have not forgotten that I have a solution for that already. Do not make it today that you walk through those doors and never return," Hank warned Layla.
The call for Ian’s mother to return was already made so it would work in his favour to have Layla leave especially with Ian back, but he wanted the perfect timing to announce Layla’s departure.
"How foolish must you be to not question the reason he suddenly wants to be here? I told you what he has been looking for and you refuse to take the matter seriously. He will be your downfall. Just wait," Layla said, walking away from the trio right after.
She could not stand by and watch as Hank welcod Ian with open arms. Layla would never trust Ian and the fools standing beside him shouldn’t as well. After turning down Hank’s invitations to co here, why now was Ian showing up?
The only good that could co from Ian being here was finishing off what she started years ago.
