Chapter 32: The big boss
Ray just stared at the closed door with a wide smile on his face.
While he was not that good socially, when it ca to the ga, he had given his entire past life to it.
It was not hard to spot the obvious gar traits in Raghav.
Especially how Raghav did not mock the ga. It was so different from the typical gang mbers he had interacted with in his past life.
Even the questions Raghav asked him were more of a hidden test that only those who spent ti on the ga would know.
The rumor about this gang starting the ga from the first year did not look exaggerated.
He did not get to think much as suddenly the door popped open.
Raghav waved at him. "Follow ."
Ray adjusted his hair a bit and walked out.
Outside, the fake salesman stared wide-eyed at him.
Ray just smiled at him and followed after Raghav.
The two of them took the elevator to the third floor.
Once they were alone in the lift, Raghav asked him, "Kid, if you don’t mind, can you tell
how long you have been playing the ga?"
Ray tilted his head at this odd question. ’There is no way they did not search my history. Wait, don’t tell
they were doubting .’
Still being respectful, Ray said, "Sir, I’ve been playing for a year now. It’s only because of the college scholarship that I got the chance to play."
Raghav just nodded as the lift door opened.
Ray was taken aback. Just before the lift gate, a bulky middle-aged man and a similarly aged woman were waiting for him.
The guy was in a casual T-shirt and jeans. He asked Raghav, "Is it this boy?"
Raghav nodded in respect. "Yes, bhai."
Taken aback, Ray also bowed to the two.
The woman waved to him in a flat, monotonic tone. "Co out, kid."
Ray walked out, glancing between them.
He noticed the three of them looking at each other while scanning him up and down.
They blinked a couple of tis at each other, and then, without wasting an extra word, the woman pointed to the end of the small corridor. "Go there, the boss is waiting for you."
All of this did surprise him, but he finally walked to the main office.
Just as he reached there, a suited man opened the door. He pointed into the room. "Boss is waiting for you."
Ray’s heartbeat spiked for a mont, but not overthinking it, he just stepped in.
There, a man in a brown suit with a thick blond beard stared at him. There was a massive slash mark across his forehead, with another one across his left cheek.
Ray instantly recognized the infamous marks and bowed. "Good morning, boss."
Clink!
At that very mont, the guy in the suit closed the office door, leaving him alone with the boss.
The boss pointed to the empty chair before him. "Co sit here."
Ray took a mont to adjust and then calmly sat before the boss.
The boss did not waste much ti and directly asked, "Show
the item."
Ray nodded and just opened the picture of an old, skin-covered book that he had unexpectedly gained yesterday.
He handed his phone to the boss. "Here, boss."
The boss stared at the picture while tilting his head. "What item is this?"
"Boss, it’s classed as ’The Ruler of Witchcraft.’ Just scroll to the next picture for details."
The boss squinted for a mont. He even took out his own phone to check the details.
Ray just kept staring at him. He did not have to hear it aloud, as the smile on the boss’s face already gave him the answer.
The boss completely dropped his stern face and started laughing aloud. "Hahaha, kid, you really ca at the right ti."
Ray raised his eyebrow.
The unbothered boss explained to him. "You see, I have been searching for these reset classes for the past year. I got my hands on a couple of them, but none were as good as this one."
Ray smiled at him. "Happy that you like this, boss."
The boss looked up at him. "Kid, I want this item. Just tell
what you want for this."
Ray just stared at him, unsure how to place his offer nicely. "Ahh, boss..."
The boss tilted his head. "What happened, kid?"
Ray decided to be blunt about it. He stared at the boss and said, "Boss, I want to be in the gang."
Silence.
Instantly, the smile vanished from the boss’s face. He placed both phones to the side and asked in a deep tone, "Kid, who sent you here?"
Ray just t the boss’s eyes and said in a plain tone, "I am here on my own."
The boss frowned at him. "Kid, do you really think of my gang as a joke that anybody could join?"
Ray just gulped down his saliva and shook his head. "No, I don’t want to be part of your gang. I am only interested in having a position with your gang."
The boss squinted at him. "And how is that different?"
Ray leaned forward and started explaining. "Boss, you have to understand. Being a part of you ans I am under you. I am not interested in that."
He raised his hand and then said, "Instead, it will be a cooperation where you will give
a na-only position within your core gang for the book."
"It does not have to have any power. I am even willing to put in a bit of work, as long as it does not disturb my ga ti. But for everyone outside the core gang, I am a core mber just like others in your group."
The boss rubbed his forehead. "In a nutshell, kid, you just want to use my gang na."
Ray nodded his head. "Kind of. Though the important thing is I have to look part of your gang, even to other gangs working under you."
The boss sighed. "Kid, do you really think the gang is a corporation where I could just assign an empty position to you? I an, you must want to use my gang na for protection, right? Why not just ask for direct protection?"
Ray shook his head. "Nope. Others have to see
as part of your group."
The boss asked, full of irritation, "Why so obsessed with gangs? What are you even aiming for?"
Ray looked into his eyes. "The sa thing you are purchasing the book for."
The boss suddenly froze and just stared wide-eyed at him. "Wait, don’t tell ..."
Ray just smiled in response.
