Chapter 30: Toward the main cafe.
The fake salesman sat down before him. After a bit of silence between them, he asked, "Can I know who recomnded you here?"
Instead of answering, Ray asked back, "Did you get the latest report?"
The guy nodded and grabbed the two sche pamphlets before him.
Ray asked with interest, "Not gonna let
select them?"
The guy just crumpled the two pamphlets and threw them back in his bag. "Kid, are you joking with ? Those sches are not for soone like you."
This response stumped Ray. It looked like he had underestimated the value of recruiting a reset player.
Well, maybe because no one knew the potential of his reset class. Still, he asked, "So what is the sche for soone like ?"
The guy just stared at him for a mont and said, "You know this is not the place to talk. How about you co to the West 5 pod cafe with ? I can explain everything there."
Ray shook his head. "I don’t want to join the West 5 cafe."
The guy stared daggers at him. He leaned forward and grabbed his shirt. "You think this is a joke?"
Ray just stared into his eyes and said in a calm tone, "West Main. Send
to join the West Main cafe."
The fake salesman just froze with his mouth wide open. Unable to suppress his voice, he shouted, "What? Are you crazy!"
Ray pulled the guy’s hand off his shirt and leaned back on his chair. "Just tell
if it is possible or not."
The guy just stared awkwardly at his hand. It took him so ti to recover as he started looking around the cafe.
After making sure no one was around, the guy almost whispered to him, "Kid, are you really serious?"
Ray just nodded.
The guy took a deep breath and got up without saying anything. He grabbed his bag and whispered while walking off, "Follow , it is not a safe place to talk."
Ray glanced around the cafe, unsure if soone was keeping an eye on them. Still, he started walking with the salesman as the guy went back to explaining this and that sche while smiling.
It continued for so distance when the guy dragged him to an empty corridor.
Just as he walked in, the guy suddenly dropped his bag and grabbed his neck. "Bitch, who are you? How do you know about the West Main cafe?"
Ray stared at him with wide eyes, his heartbeat shooting through the roof. ’Shit, shit, don’t tell
I ssed up.’
His palms started sweating as all sorts of torture he went through in his past life rushed through his head.
’Should I back down? No, that will be worse.’ Multiple bad scenarios started going through his head.
’No, calm down.’ He forced himself to stare back at the guy’s face.
Hiding his shaking hand behind his back, he uttered, "Don’t tell
I picked a spineless dog?"
"What did you say?" The guy slamd him into the wall.
Ray forced a smile on his face. He stared into the guy’s eyes and asked, "Are you sure you want to give up on earning big credits?"
The guy squinted at him and loosened his grip. "Fck, you even know about the credits. Just who the hell is this friend of yours?"
Cough! Cough!
Ray rubbed his neck and asked, "Just tell , can you do it or not?"
The guy shook his head. "It ain’t that simple, boy. You know just how risky it is? I don’t want to offend my boss—"
Ray cut in. "So you want the guy above you to steal the credit?"
The guy squinted his eyes while smiling. "Boy, you really are naive. You really think entering the main cafe would make you special? It ain’t that much different than being the sla—part of West 5 cafe."
Ray started laughing. "Haha, fear has made your brain dead. Mr. Fake salesman, have you ever heard of the crazy player stories?"
The guy froze, but then shook his head. "Kid, you sure talk a lot for a guy who is about to fail college."
Ray just pointed a finger. "A single eting."
The guy rubbed his forehead. "Kid, you really think too much about yourself."
Ray just shrugged his shoulders, not saying anything further.
The guy also beca quiet as the two of them stared at each other.
Finally, the guy sighed and waved to him. "Okay, follow ."
Ray clenched his fist, all while maintaining his poker face. ’Yess!’
He stared at the fake salesman, controlling his face so as not to show a smile.
He took a deep breath. It was for this reason that he picked this guy over other recruiters.
Sure, his offer was beneficial to both of them, but still, there were a few people who dared to risk offending their seniors, especially those in the gangs.
Even in his past life, this guy was infamous for taking risks. He cald down. This was just the first hurdle; there was still a big wall to climb.
The two of them continued to move through the ss of the alley in silence.
Ray winced in pain from ti to ti but forced himself to match the guy’s speed. It was not the ti to show weakness.
After half an hour, the two of them finally stopped before a massive multistory warehouse that was converted into a gaming cafe.
Ray saw tons of gaming pods attached to the ground floor.
The guy finally turned to him. "Kid, it will only be a single eting. Tell
if you want to back away now."
Ray forced a smile. "Make sure it’s with soone from the core gang."
The guy raised his eyebrow, but then smiled. "Good." With that, the guy grabbed his phone and called soone, this ti not even bothering to walk away and even placing it on speaker while pointing a finger to his lips.
After a minute-long wait, the guy said, full of respect, "Bhai, nice to talk to you."
A rough voice answered from the other end. [Yeah, yeah. So, why did you call?]
"Bhai, actually, I found an interesting item."
[Item?]
"Yeah, it’s a second-year college kid that just reset his class."
[Clicked. Oh, it’s that. Well, good work. Just send him to the cafe, and I’ll tell the guys there to add it to your contribution.]
The two of them stared at each other. None expected such a flat response.
