"What do you think about crystal healing?" Snow deflected from the topic of her child and questioned .
I’d never tried crystal healing before, and to be honest, it gave the creeps. Plus, there was sothing weird about her, so I decided to pass. "I need so ti to mull it over. Could you drop your contact information? If I decide to take up the therapy, I’ll holler at you."
I thought Snow wouldn’t cough up her number so easily, considering Luna had once told that loads of people were after her healing touch and getting in touch was tricky.
But, low and behold, Snow just up and handed a business card with nothing but her na, Snow, and her cell number.
Luna was too stunned to say anything of .
Still, I took the card. Maybe there was sothing special tying to that, Dr. Snow.
After we left the hotel, Luna couldn’t help but blurt out, "What gives? I thought Snow wasn’t into won. Why’s she so chummy with you?"
"Do you think this is a good thing?" I shot back.
"Absolutely, it’s a big deal to beco pals with such a top-notch healer." Luna replied with a grin.
I fell silent for a while, occasionally glancing at the card. For so reason, I felt edgy.
And a sudden thought struck . If Snow was as good as they said, had she figured out from the check-up that I might not be able to conceive again?
My mood took a nosedive.
"Ms. Brooks, you’re back." Hannah greeted upon my return.
"Where’s my mom?" I asked.
"Jas took her to the hospital for a check-up this afternoon. She just rang to say that Dr. Jones was treating her to dinner, so she won’t be back for supper." Hannah lowered her voice, knowing I had a bone to pick with Jones.
My already tense mood took a turn for the worse. My mom was dead set on making Jones her son-in- law, completely ignoring my feelings.
I tossed my bag on the couch and was about to grab a drink to douse my inner fury when my phone rang. It was my mom.
She said, "The car broke down. Bailey took it to the shop. Eliana, could you co fetch ?"
"Why don’t you ask Jones?" I snapped.
My mom paused before responding, "Dr. Jones has work. He can’t. What’s gotten into you? Can’t you even pick up?"
It was not that I didn’t want to, but I knew my mom’s ga. She wanted to pick her up so I could bump into Jones.
She then huffed, "Fine, I’ll take the bus. I haven’t done it in years, but I suppose I can rough it."
"Can’t you just hail a cab?" I asked, exasperated.
"You don’t need to worry about that." My mom’s tone turned icy. I could tell she was cheesed off.
She hadn’t taken a bus in decades. And given her age and health, I was uneasy about letting her do it alone. She was stubborn as a mule, and I was at my
wits’ end.
In the end, I agreed to fetch her and asked her to hold her horses and text her location.
When I arrived, she was still gabbing with Jones. She waved at , and I went over, poker-faced.
Jones probably sensed my cold front, so he was equally frosty.
Without uttering a word, I grabbed my mom’s hand and turned to leave. But my mom wasn’t having it. She smiled at Jones and said, "Dr. Jones, you’ve been a great help and so patient. Would you like to join us for dinner at our place, if it’s not too much trouble?"
"Didn’t you just say he has work to do?" I asked, unable to bear it.
"I managed to get my shift changed, but I have so stuff to do tonight, so I can’t make it to your place for dinner. Maybe next ti." Jones’s response, whether ant for or my mom, was music to my ears.
My mom let out a disappointed sigh.
Jones got up and said to my mom, "Alright, feel free to contact if you have any health concerns. I’ll arrange for check-ups and treatnt. I have to run now."
"Alright, you do your thing." My mom looked at Jones with such affection and warmth that it reminded of how Lisa used to look at .
I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. Lisa was dead sure that I was her only choice for a daughter-in- law, but then my mom seed to have decided Jones was her only choice for a son-in-law.
My head was spinning.
Once Jones was out of sight, my mom’s smile faded. She frowned at with disappointnt written all over her face.
She was silent all the way ho, lost in her thoughts.
When we got ho, she finally sighed and said, "Eliana, don’t bla . I only want you to choose soone who loves you, not soone you love. Just like Damon regretting losing you, I don’t want you to regret not choosing Jones soday."
Her tone was sad, which softened my resentnt a bit. I couldn’t deny her good intentions.
"Mom, just take care of yourself. Once dad’s back, we can live a peaceful and steady life like before. That’s all I ask. Okay?" I felt unreasonably irritated.
My mom’s good intentions were weighing down. Even the thought of Damon was stressing out.
"You’re my only daughter. Your happiness matters to . When you beco a mom soday, you’ll understand my dilemma." My mom shook her head.
A lump ford in my throat. I almost blurted out that I couldn’t have kids anymore.
But I held it in and retreated to my room. Maybe I’d changed too. I found it hard to accept my mom’s transformation.
Lately, apart from so progress with FarHorizon Group and discovering a few financial hiccups on their end, everything else seed to be going pear-shaped. I had just ironed out my differences with
Damon when we hit another stalemate, and my mom was back on my case about my love life.
I was feeling knackered. When I woke up, my head was spinning, and I felt light as a feather. I was in a rotten state, and there was even a dull ache in my chest.
Having had that kind of pain in a previous life, I was on high alert, so I dashed off to the hospital for a check-up.
The doctor looked at the test results and said, "Ms. Brooks, have you been under a lot of stress lately or had any severe mood swings? Won shouldn’t get too worked up. It can really ss with your breasts and thyroid. And as for your breasts..."
