I was totally lost. What was he trying to say?
Damon looked at all puzzled, then suddenly his face darkened and he just walked away.
I followed him in confusion. After a while, it hit . I hadn’t checked if Damon had gotten ho last night. After he drove off, I didn’t bother to ask. I didn’t really care about what could happen between him and Ariel.
Was that why he was mad?
I noticed Damon getting jealous more easily, and always for unclear reasons.
"I was too tired last night and fell asleep. I ant to check on you..." I said patiently. "I trust you, so I don’t need to ask too much, right?"
"Don’t try to pull the wool over my eyes. I know how you used to treat and how you treat now" Damon replied coldly.
He rembered how I used to treat him? My one-sided feelings back then must have left a mark.
I wasn’t sure if I should be happy, but I just burst into laughter
"You’re laughing now? You’ve got guts." Damon saw laughing and got even madder. "Don’t think that just because you’re hurt, I won’t do anything to you."
I stopped laughing imdiately.
It will take so ti. Alight, it’s all my fault. Now go get busy. I’ll try to get Ethan to sign the contract in the next few
"Good, you owe after this is over," Damon reminded before he left. I pretended to agree, but I felt uneasy.
How was I supposed to make it up to Damon? Have a baby for him? That was never going to happen.
After things were finally settled, Damon might start hating .
My mom was awake now, and as long as she recovered well, she could go back to work. All I had to do was help her.
"Damon, I need to talk to you!" I called out to Damon.
"What is it?" Damon stopped, looking puzzled.
"You should watch out for Nick. It would be a good thing if you could keep him out of Coleman Co." I hadn’t ant to say this, but after seeing all that Damon had done for , I considered it payback.
Damon’s face changed Instantly. He probably had a hunch, but he valued his friends very much. Apart from the strained relationship he had with Jones because of , he always put his friends first, especially Nick, whom he had grown up with.
His mood seed to have eased a bit, as if he were reassuring . "Okay, I got it."
Then he left.
About three days later, Hannah received a phone call saying her husband had been arrested for arson and murder. Only then did she realize that the fire at their ho was indeed set by her husband.
"You can file for divorce now." I reminded Hannah.
"I pray that I will never see him again!" Hannah cursed her husband. There was not a trace of affection for him in her eyes, only hatred.
But I still didn’t understand why Ariel had never been punished. I thought soone was protecting her. Later, I found out that Damon had not used all the evidence and had let Ariel off the hook on purpose.
Damon and I were in sync, we didn’t contact each other, but we each focused on our own things. When I returned to the company, I took the initiative to contact FarHorizon Group and agreed to their cooperation proposal, which gave the opportunity to learn about the internal situation of FarHorizon Group.
"Ms. Brooks, Ms. Scarlett wants to see you" My assistant reported in a hurry.
Why was Scarlett looking for again? Shouldn’t she be living a sweet life with Jones now?
I had mixed feelings as I rembered the rumors on the internet and the IP address that showed her location. Scarlett didn’t seem as innocent as she looked. For Jones, she might do all sorts of unexpected things.
"I don’t have ti right now," I replied.
But I didn’t expect Scarlett to wait for until I finished work. She was waiting for at the company’s entrance.
I frowned, not wanting to talk to her.
However, Scarlett ca over and asked concernedly. "Ms. Brooks, I heard you were injured. Are you feeling better now?"
I was recovering well. Many people cared for , like Luna, Hannah, and the company’s staff. But Scarlett’s sudden concem made feel a bit strange.
"I’m fine, what’s up?" I replied casually.
Scarlett looked around as if it weren’t a good place to talk and asked quietly. "Can we go for a coffee? I want to talk to you."
She looked at expectantly; her eyes were full of urgency, as if she needed my help with sothing important. novel bin
But I didn’t want to talk to her about anything right now.
"I don’t have ti, Ms. Scarlett. We’re not close." I replied coldly.
I used to be nice to Scarlett. I thought it wasn’t easy for her to love Jones so much while he didn’t love her at all. But after I found out she had hurt , I had no reason to be nice to her anymore.
Scarlett was surprised by my change in attitude and awkwardly asked, "Yes, we’re not close, but we can still chat, right? You know, if it weren’t for Jones, I wouldn’t bother you."
"You’re engaged to Jones, so you’re his future wife; why do you need ?" I asked back, puzzled.
On hearing this, Scarlett’s face changed instantly "Ms. Brooks, can you help ? Jones wants to break off our engagent."
I was taken aback but quickly regained my composure. Jones had ntioned this to before, I just didn’t think he would really do it.
So Scarlett was here to ask to persuade Jones
I was beyond peeved. "Ms. Scarlett, I reckon you should sort this out with Jones, not . I’m done with him, and I am not getting involved in your ss. So, kindly stop bugging ." I said, my tone icy cold.
I knew if I kept sticking my nose in their business, one day Scarlett might co at again out of jealousy.
Scarlett looked super awkward, her eyes were brimming with tears. "Ms. Brooks, I’m head over heels for Jones, so I want to stand by him, but he’s still hung up on you. I’m out of options except for coming to you."
I was about to respond when, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Jones in the distance. He looked stone-cold, and when he glanced at Scarlett, his eyes were filled with sheer hatred.
I realized he was nothing like the Jones I knew. It felt like he was a total stranger to .
