I went to the police station to ask about the progress of Joshua’s case, but all I got was the sa story Damon gave ,

When I left the police station, it was already dark, but the streets were bustling with people. After all, Christmas was just around the corner. It was the busiest ti of the year.

In the cold, crowded streets, I got a call from Ariel. She was using a number I didn’t recognize.

"Joshua, why did it have to be like this?" Ariel’s sobbing voice ca from the other side of the phone.

"Ariel, you’re quite the actress," I said coldly. "He was your first love, and he was so good to you. Don’t you feel the slightest bit of remorse?"

Ariel sobbed back, Eliana," I didn’t an for him to die. It was an accident. Why do you have to paint as a heartless villain? I just wanted him to leave the city!"

Her crying was so intense that it seed like she genuinely felt sorrow over Joshua’s death.

"Eliana, let’s talk face-to-face." She suggested eting up

I didn’t want to see her, but I was curious to see how far this ruthless woman could take her act.

I agreed to et. Ariel picked the coffee shop as the place to et.

It had been a while since I’d been to that place. Sotis I regretted going there to spy on Ariel in the first place, upsetting the natural course of things

Half an hour later, I t Ariel. The last ti I saw her here was when she wanted to divorce Damon.

Back then, she looked worn out and haggard, like a small flower that had been battered by a storm. But now, that little flower had completely transford. There was nothing cheap about her anymore.

The staff there had changed. No one recognized Ariel, let alone

"Eliana." Ariel greeted with a sad smile. Her swollen eyes did look like she’d been crying.

"Just call Ms. Brooks. We’re not on friendly terms." I said, sitting across from Ariel, filled with disgust and hatred for her.

Ariel sniffled, "Old habits die hard."

The coffee ca, but I had no desire to drink it.

Ariel took a sip and said, "I used to think the coffee here was good, but I couldn’t afford it on my salary"

"Now, it doesn’t taste so good " She put down her cup and looked at my phone, "Eliana, you’re not recording this, are you?"

Not this ti I was just staring at Ariel, hoping to find so cracks in her pretty facade.

Ariel gave a small smile, "Why are you looking at like that? Do you still suspect ?"

"Ariel, every action has its consequences. When karma cos knocking, you’ll regret it." I said, feeling sowhat ridiculous even as the words left my mouth.

Was there really such a thing as fairness in this world? If there was, why did Joshua have to suffer? He was so kind and honest; he never did anything wrong.

Ariel’s smile gradually faded. Her ticulously drawn eyebrows lifted slightly, revealing a hint of cold sarcasm, "If you think I’m responsible for this, you should bla Damon"

I felt a pang in my heart, "What do you an?"

Ariel looked genuinely surprised. "Didn’t Jones tell you? He’s such an upright guy."

"Spit it out "I said, my tone growing sterner.

"I thought Jones would tell you to make you give up on Damon completely so he could have you all to himself." Ariel mused, "He’s such a fool"

Ariel’s chatter was becoming more and more irritating. I stared at her coldly, waiting for her to continue.

She took another sip of her unpleasant coffee as a victorious smile appeared on her face. "When you kicked out of Starlight Estates, all I had left was a key But they changed all the locks I was desperate then, I almost died. My parents stayed with in the hospital, and they even sold the new house they hadn’t lived in yet just to cover my dical bills. But they couldn’t sell the house right away, so we were stuck."

"Do you know why I could go abroad for treatnt in the end?"

Ariel left the question hanging as the smirk on her face deepened.

I felt a chill I reached for my coffee, and my fingers clutched the handle tightly

Ariel opened her innocent eyes wide and continued, "I thought Damon had given up on and that he didn’t care if I lived or died, but he had Jones give a large sum of money to go abroad. Otherwise, I would’ve been long gone."

This was ridiculous!

I’ve never felt like such a joke before. Even though I had no expectations of Damon, I still felt hurt and angry.

Jones didn’t even tell about it!

"Damob didn’t fall in love with you in ten years; how could a divorce change that? He’s just being stubborn". Ariel said confidently. "His love for rests. Why else would he help ti and ti again, letting do whatever I want?"

My emotions were starting to get the best of , and my hands were shaking.

Ariel noticed and grinned. She reached out and grasped the other side of my coffee cup, "So, if you really think I killed Joshua, go ahead and hate Damon."

"Get lost!" I felt as if Ariel’s hand was covered in thorns, so I quickly yanked my hand back.

The coffee cup fell to the floor, shattering with a crisp sound. Coffee spilled everywhere, and its aroma filled the air

A waiter ca over

I put so money on the table and left without a second thought.

Outside, I looked at Ariel through the glass window. She was smiling and explaining sothing to the waiter, showing none of the sorrow she had earlier

My phone started buzzing. It was a call from Damon, "Where are you right now?"

"I’m at the coffee shop, you know, the place where we used to sip coffee together. Just haul ass over here and pick up." I stared off into the intersection ahead, my voice flat as a pancake.

"Alright." Damon responded with no fuss.

My car was actually parked nearby, but I just wanted Damon to co get so Ariel could see how he was fussing over now.

So what if Damon had pulled a fast one on ? I had to suck it up until I got an opportunity to see my dad.

Once I’ve seen my dad, I’m hightailing it out of Starlight Estates. I couldn’t keep the promises I made to Damon anymore.

I stood in the chilly wind for a bit.

Damon’s car zood up as fast as lightning. His first move after he got out of the car was to strip off his coat and wrap it around .
