After I hung up the phone, Damon had already arrived.
His company seed to be not far from here, so it didn’t take him long to swing by
"Damon, you finally showed up! I thought you were going to bail on us!" Zoe ran over excitedly and hugged his arm as soon as she saw Damon.
Damon, looking a bit peeved, brushed her arms off and said, ’Let’s just talk standing here. No need to hug"
It was at that mont that Zoe’s friends finally recognized that her companion was Damon. They were all pretty shocked and couldn’t help checking out this big shot from the business world that they’d heard so much about.
Zoe was unfazed by their surprise. Hands on her hips, she said, "Quit it. You’re picking up the tab today, OK?"
To Damon, footing the bill was no biggie. He didn’t answer, but no answer was as good as a yes. Zoe imdiately told her friends, "Alright, eat and drink whatever you want today. We’ve got a free ride"
I kept quiet, thinking about how to get out of there. When Zoe ca over to say hi, I said, "Zoe, sothing ca up at work. I gotta go handle it. Happy birthday!"
"Huh? Are you leaving before the cake? Is work really that urgent? Maybe you can stick around for a bit, and it’s more fun with more people" Zoe seed a bit disappointed.
I could tell Zoe loved a good ti, her eyes were full of the desire for fun, and she made no attempt to hide it.
As for Damon, he was frowning, probably guessing that I was just making excuses to avoid him.
"I’ll get you a gift for your next birthday. I’ll have the cake next ti." I smiled and replied.
Zoe pouted, "Well, alright then."
Since the birthday girl was OK with leaving, I turned to go. Unexpectedly Damon said, "I’ll go pay the bill. You guys go ahead and eat"
He didnt ever wait for Zoe’s response, he just started following .
Damon’s going to pay the bill himself? Can’t he just have soone else do it? I suspected he just wanted an excuse to follow , so I quickened my pace.
Even though I was sowhat tall for a woman and walked fast, Damon had long legs and strode even faster, and he caught up with in no ti.
I was in high heels, and because I was walking so fast, I twisted my ankle. The pain was so intense I let out a yelp. "Ah!"
Then I started to lose my balance and almost fell over
Damon caught just in ti. Thank God he was there, or else I would have made a fool of myself Passers-by all turned to look
"Thanks." I thanked Damon, gritting my teeth against the pain in my ankle
"Why are you wearing high heels to a party?" Damon frowned, looking at the broken heel of my shoe.
I hobbled ahead, in no mood to respond to his question due to the pain, "I like wearing heels. It’s none of your business."
I didn’t get far before I twisted my other ankle. I sat down hard on the ground, the pain rendering limp.
Since I was going out drinking with Luna and the gang today, I dressed up a bit and wore these thin heeled shoes. Normally it’s fine, but when I’m in a rush, I just can’t control myself.
A water ca over, asking if I needed help
"I’ll be with her. I’ll handle this." Damon walked over and easily dismissed the waiter.
I was hoping the water could help, but he actually listened to Damon and left.
Damon squatted down beside , "Can you walk?"
What kind of question was that? Who could walk with a sprained ankle?
I didn’t say anything. I took out my phone to text Luna, hoping she could co help .
Next thing I knew, Damon had picked up, my phone nearly slipping out of my hand.
"I can walk. Put down!" I insisted stubbornly
Damon stopped at that and let down, I wasn’t ready and ended up sitting down hard, gasping at the sudden pain.
He did that on purpose, causing pain again!
I gritted my teeth and dialed Luna’s number. She ca out quickly with Mitch.
"Mitch, take her to the hospital" Luna ordered Mitch.
"Sure!" Mitch, ever the good Samaritan, squatted down with his back towards , "I give you a piggyback"
Then he looked up and saw Damon glaring at him like he was the devil incarnate. He went weak in the knees, and before I could climb onto his back, he started rubbing his back, saying, "Ah... Eliana, I think I’ve put my back out... It hurts!"
Luna, hands on hips, scoffed, "Are you kidding ? Since when do you have back problems?!"
Damon calmly said. "Maybe he just got it"
A sudden case of back problems? Luna looked puzzled.
Mitch struggled to his feet, saying to Damon, "Damon, could you help out? It’s too much for with the kid and all"
"Mm." Damon gave a nonchalant nod, but after he said that, a faint smile could be seen on his face.
I understood the little ga between the two n and was a bit annoyed. Just as I was about to ask Luna to get Cooper to help, Damon had picked up again.
I hadn’t seen him hitting the gym regularly, but he was surprisingly strong. Picking up was as easy as lifting a pillow. Maybe it was just natural strength
As Damon carried into the elevator, Zoe ca running over She was shocked at the sight
The elevator started to descend
The elevator doors closed, cutting us off from the outside world
I was in Damon’s arms, my arms crossed tightly.
I didn’t hold onto his neck, trying to lighten his burden as much as possible
sarcastically. "why are you just doing this"
"Why else would you be so eager?"
Damon chuckled coldly.
" I could carry you to the hospital. Any large dog would weigh more than you."
I didn’t respond to him,
Now, it seed that letting Damon hold with this fired gesture. After leaving the hotel lobby. Jones and Scarlett suddenly appeared.
I ran into Jones and Scarlett who is always by his side. His family must be pretty fond of Scarlett.
I turned my head pretending not to see him. Jones stopped
"What’s wrong with your foot"
Damon was about to stop, but I imdiately wrapped my arm
"Mm-hmm" Damon responded, carrying had a tight grip on his arm
whispering in his ear. "Lets go"
"To make Jones give up on completely", so ignoring him was the best way to go.
Before we left, I glanced at Jones. He seed to want to co closer to , but Scarlett....
