Before I could utter a word, Damon had already left.
I glanced around the relatively clean kitchen and shook my head helplessly.
It was around nine when Harry ca back, looking stern and serious. An uneasy feeling crept up on
"Eliana, soone’s pulling strings behind the scenes on your dad’s case, and they’re pretty powerful," Harry said.
This took by surprise. I couldn’t imagine my dad having such formidable enemies at work. Weren’t his troubles all manufactured by Ariel?
Could Ariel possibly have an even bigger backer?
Or maybe it was Nancy!
"Your dad’s been detained and is under investigation. Proving his innocence will be complicated. I’m worried that this might affect your family’s business, so we need to secure the company first", Harry added
I imdiately told him I planned to seek help from my other uncles.
Harry agreed with my plan. His own company mainly operated overseas, so he might not be able to provide much help.
For my dad’s sake, Harry would stay in the country for a while. I was imnsely grateful for his help. His presence made feel much safer.
Next on the agenda was to find my uncles, I couldn’t handle the company affairs alone.
After a long day of hustle and bustle, I returned ho, exhausted
"You’re back?" This ti, Damon was waiting for at my front door with two middle-aged n and a bunch of renovation tools.
Seeing those tools, I was agitated. "Are you really having my kitchen repainted?"
"What else?’ Damon retorted
I rubbed my forehead. He was really idle, doing such boring things.
Judging from Damon’s attitude, I figured he wouldn’t rest until the kitchen was repainted, so I just let them in to get it over with.
Harry was ho that afternoon but didn’t know Damon was now my neighbor. He was taken aback when I walked in with Damon and the two workers.
On seeing Harry, Damon didn’t seem surprised. He had probably known all along. He just greeted him politely, "Hello"
Then he took the workers into the kitchen and got busy
Harry looked at puzzled. "Eliana, isn’t that Damon? Didn’t you guys get divorced?"
"Don’t get the wrong idea. We’re just neighbors now. He accidentally set my kitchen on fire and brought people to fix it. That’s all," hastily explained
This explanation was odd. My ex-husband turned neighbor had accidentally torched my kitchen. It didn’t make sense
My dad hated Damon, and Harry must’ve known that, so his expression got stern as he locked towards the kitchen.
Damon had already co out from the kitchen by then. He just sat at the dining table, not coming over even after seeing and Harry.
Harry didn’t look too pleased, but I couldn’t explain everything with Damon nearby. I just told him to rest.
"Eliana, he’s not a good man. Don’t make the sa mistake again," Harry warned before heading upstairs.
"Harry, I understand I’ll explain everything to you when I get a chance," I nodded.
Once Harry was upstairs, I let out a sigh of relief, only to turn around and see Damon already in the living room.
He was quick. No sooner had Harry left than he ca over.
Frowning, I said, "Now even Harry is misunderstanding ."
Damon casually replied, "It doesn’t matter as long as you have a clear conscience."
"You really know how to stir up trouble," I glared at Damon.
"It’s you who’s being secretive, not being honest," he retorted.
Damon was too good with words, so I chose to remain silent. I picked up my bag and headed upstairs to shower, hoping that Damon and the two workers would have left when I was done
But to my disappointnt, they were still there when I ca out of the shower. Damon was sitting on the sofa reading a book, looking very comfortable.
Why did painting walls take so long? I changed into fresh clothes and went downstairs, and headed straight to the kitchen to check on the progress.
The kitchen, which was already clean, now looked brand new after being worked on by the two workers.
"It should be almost done. You guys can go now." I told them
The workers shook their heads "Mr. Coleman didn’t say we could leave We can’t go".
Speechless, I went back to the living room to find Damon.
" The kitchen’s almost done. Let them go"
"We should do things thoroughly There’s no need to rush" Damon replied nonchalantly, not even looking up from his book
"You’re so annoying. I’m swamped right now and don’t have ti for this. Are you doing this on purpose to annoy ?" I snapped.
Damon finally closed his book and looked at . As usual, he was unfazed. "I’m just dealing with the ss I made. I’m not trying to annoy you.
It was already late, and all I wanted was to go upstairs and rest. Do whatever you want. Just rember to lock the door when you leave."
"Aren’t you going to ask about Jones?" Damon’s question stopped in my tracks.
Jones seed to have vanished into thin air these past few days. He wasn’t reachable by any ans. Mitch even went to the Smith family’s company looking for him, only to be told he was on a business trip.
In short, there was no news of him from any channels
"Did you find him?" A glimr of hope ignited in my heart.
Damon looked at my hopeful face and gave a cold smile "Are you missing him, or do you need his help?"
Both reasons were true, but in the current situation, my biggest concern was my dad. I admit I was being a bit selfish.
I had no idea how Jones got hold of certain information. All I knew was that Luna and I felt helpless in reaching out to Jones, but he succeeded.
"If you’re willing to help, just say so. There’s no need to question like that," I replied coldly.
Damon was always doing as he pleased. If he was just here to mock , then there was no need.
Hearing my words, he seed even more peeved, but he held his tongue and did not question anymore. Instead, he just spilled so beans, "Jones’s no longer in the city. Where exactly is still in the air, but what’s certain is that his folks kicked him out of the city."
Sure enough, my hunch was spot on, and the info Mitch dug up wasn’t off. Jones had indeed left the city, but it wasn’t for a business trip, but because his parents had given him the boot.
